  1. Yup, with the "Capacitor plague"
  2. Ouch... So, what about the HD4670? Anyway, I´m waiting for the HD4xxx line to come in soon, so I sold my 2600XT and I´m working now on a 6200LE (OWYEAH!), but... what a difference in speed and stability; I had to try different drivers from nVidia to get Vista work without the hardware failure message (although it says it recovered the fault)...
  3. I can see why not, it´s a PCI card and I really looked over that; the motherboard must be PCI only like the crap from compaq/HP... You are stuck, and take “as is” for now. A complete upgrade would do you a lot more, or try to find a ATI 9250 PCI 128/256MB or so for 10USD used .
  4. If you want to go SLI you need a nVidia chipset, other than that there is no need to go with nVidia, not even there onboard GeForce 8xx0 series can make it against the GMA x3xxx x4xxx from Intel (or the latest ATI chips, but that´s just with an AMD CPU). nVidia should have stayed with their GPUs and NOT with chipsets for motherboards... just my 2 cents...
  5. +1 For Lenovo, they have great notebooks, and since Cluberti showed me that they have the option to build your own, so with a 1680*1050 or even a 1920*1200, 12 cell battery pack and so much more options, I must say that there is not much left other than Lenovo. I was a Dell fan before but they are WAY over priced now.
  6. I was hoping others would fill in on that too, about the AMD CPU, there latests AMD Athlon X2 4850e would be the best AMD CPU for your money...
  7. Indeed, this is why I said it´s most likely half-dead .
  8. It just Dell´s way of keeping thing cheap for them, so, a foxconn cooler on a tray-CPU (not boxed, CPU only, thus 1 year of warranty).
  9. GIGABYTE GA-EP43-DS3L / 87USD (the GA-EP45-UD3 still isn´t in the shops ) Transcend 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 / 48USD for 2 of them Intel Pentium E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor / 84USD MSI R4670-2D512 Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 / 80 USD Total of just under 300 .
  10. Seems you are on a tight budget there. There are better options than you picket out; the MSI board is not what you call "the best pick" and the ASUS is way too outdated but sure cheap. Both have onboard video and there is nothing wrong with that but when it comes to Pinnacles capture cards you will have problems with "shared memory", so, you would be better off buying a PCI-E video card. So, let us redo the setup again, based on a dual core setup. For an Intel based system look at the E5200, basically the same as the E7200 but with less cash and some other features most people will not even use. You can save some 30USD on that. With that extra cash you can get a P45 based motherboard like the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3, note it has even Firewire 400 onboard. For AMD, MSI K9A2 CF-F V2 (up to 125W TDP CPU, not 140W like the more expensive boards), combine it with the AMD Brisbane X2 cored CPU (X2 5400+ for example) and you have a sweet combo. The PCI-E video card, ATI, anything that is passive cooled (less noise) and has dual DVI, an good example would be the ASUS EAH3650 SILENT MAGIC/HTDP/512M. Sure you need a good vented case for that. That´s the first part, let´s see what others have to say and fill in on the HDD, Case and PSU.
  11. Most likely the CPU error code...
  12. Indeed, and with that the topic has been closed (Not by me)!merlin69, just 2 (two!) posts and you are already asking for warez! Let this be your last warning....
  13. Go ahead .
  14. This is NOT a warez site, read the rules thilakshan, and with that you get your last warning; 2 Post and directly about Illegal software. CLOSED!
  15. That is a question no one can answer and you really have to try it yourself to know it. Factors are: - Distance to the Server - Speed of your computer - OS of your computer - Saturation of the network - Modem firmware and modem type - ... and so on...
  16. Wireless will do easily 1Mbps down and up, so if you go with the standard 54Mbps (N isn´t that much faster) you will have enough overhead to get the 1Mbps on a weak signal. Just remember to place your router/modem at a high spot...
  17. That´s indeed what I use and it works fine for me, but you have to add teh sites that you like to block by hand.
  18. There should be a part number on the motherboard, for example: SP-845GV3 rev. 1.0. or, if it´s a "brand" computer you could give us the model number and we can help you out here (sure not going to mail it to you, then a forum would be useless ).
  19. Go in the BIOS of the PC and look for it, set it to 128MB.
  20. I used some NV18 (440MX) with the 93.xx drivers (could be the Omega versions) and got no texture problems with games, however, I did miss some transparency in some games like the windows from the cars in NFSU2. Did you play with the AGP Aperture size? I don´t think that the missing textures is a shader problem... but then, it has been some time that I played with older cards…
  21. Did you try the latest drivers for your card?
  22. Mostlikely your drive is half dead...
  23. When you use an add-on video card then you won´t see much difference, if there is any besides in benchmarking.
  24. Yes, the 915G has a GMA900 onboard and uses some RAM for 2D graphics (1 or 8MB I think, like the 945G series) but can share up to 128MB of RAM, all this memory is taken from the system RAM.
  25. Yes there is a big difference in speed when you use the onboard Video but only if your BIOS can "see" the actual speed and always use dual channel...
