  1. Did you two always have this problem? Or you could never burn normal? EDIT: Okay, sounds strange, but did you try to set your drive to jumper mode "CS, Cable Select"? Try that and le me know please…
  2. You would not use indeed a cheap as* RAID controller to rebuild your setup when you have 2x 320GB; you will need some intelligence to do rebuild your setup fast or wait "a long time".
  3. Yes, properly the dipswitch for your mouse button is a bit out of shape after years. But before you replace it, it would be a good idea to check the mouse on another computer; it still could be software .
  4. Yes, one question more: Can you play DVD movies 100% fine? If yes then your PIO/DMA mode is okay and there must be a software problem (sure for 80%).
  5. That’s not a serial number, that’s a product number of the BIOS dude .
  6. Computer name is the only thing I can come up with, but if the user changes it then it will be useless (e.g. new Windows installed by user).
  7. @ the _anomaly, Okay, I´m missing some information here, about what kind of Pc are we talking? Can you post your specs please.
  8. The GPU can´t be OCed. If you set the BIOS to 128MB then with the latest nVidia drivers it will give you 128Mb in the nVidia display specs in Windows . EDIT: The only thing you can do is OC your internal/shared RAM, the GPU core will still be at 425MHz.
  9. Nice drive for a nice price, Seagate I think is one of the best drives you can get altrough that 7200rpm Hitachi drive was a nice one too.
  10. Yes indeed, To hard / expensive to fix you old CD-RW drive; Use it to read CD´s and buy a new DVD-RW drive or so, that´s what I would do
  11. Clean the lens, and if that doesn´t help buy a new CD-RW drive, also check your IDE cable .
  12. Higher voltage is a higher amplified signal, read it like this. Also, the price depends on the cable core, not so much on the shielding of that core.
  13. Play with your memmory timings, that could get you to 2100/2200 in most cases. Read this too .
  14. RJARRRPCGP, Did you read what prathapml wrote in his last post? If you folowed his way you would get more out of your CPU then just 50MHz more.
  15. It could interfere with the UTP cable, providers of TV-signals most of the time use a higher voltage to get the signal clear to your TV; I’ve seen voltages of 60, same with telephone lines. But like most people say it’s unlikely that the computer-network will suffer from the TV-signal, it’s a chance of 1 on 50 or so that it could be a problem.
  16. Here some little information. So, in general this add-on card would be a nice. Microsoft is going to bring out a new API so game-programmers don’t have to write special code for each card witch brings me to the next point: This card will not only be for a few games .
  17. SATA is indeed used in laptops for some time; think about it: Fewer conductors to your drive
  18. The 7600GT would be fine but to have a bit more power like a 7800GT could be better. Also don’t forget ATI with there x1800 series, but I presume you like to stick with nVidia since you have a 6600GT already .
  19. I test with software how far I can go, later i set those settings in the BIOS and see if it works. let´s call the first part "software overclocking" and the second part "hardware overclocking". Most tweakers and tuners use those terms .
  20. Useful? I have to make 2 tests, one with room temperatures at 40oC and one at 18oC . Why measure the temperatures if your system is stable? For ones, can some one explain me why temperature differences of 5-15oC are so important? Please?? I OC stuff for more then 10 years now and never I worried temperatures, only when hardware start’s to crash… B)
  21. Depends on what resolution you play your games, so the question is: What is your screen resolution?
  22. More RPM will be faster .
  23. Cheapest way would be like John Bigboote says. But first some questions: A) What kind of services you are giving to the people? B) What is your budget per user space? C) How good is your Linux knowledge? D) Any speacial wishes? ( no, hardware for free isn´t included ) If I was you I would do this: Workstation: Motherboard from ASRock link, AMD Sempron64 2500+, 256MB RAM, DVD-ROM, cheap *ss keyboard from Genius and optical mouse, headphones with microphones, 17" Samsung CRT screens. Server: Just a router and a switch. Software: Knoppix Linux Live DVD. EDIT: The Biostar M7VIG400(7.x) with integrated AMD Athlon 2200+ (32 bit) is low cost, NEVER touch PC-Chips ever in your life
  24. I used moded BIOSes before, for VGA and mobos. I will ensure you that many tests were done, it just to show hidden setting so they only edit the screen you see in your BIOS. I know the pens are expensive, but as far as I know you can remove the lines so you will still have warranty, the cheap way is so solder a bridge on those 2 contacts.
  25. Okay, there we go: Reply on A): When socket AM2 is coming out you will see that AMD will have lower prices on the AM2 CPUs then the S939, so, for all HOME users it will not be interesting do buy a Opteron any more. For the server market; I’ve not seen much people that upgrade there server just a few 100s of MHz. Reply on B): That market will die as I described above. Reply on C): Yes, it will take a long time before you can’t buy new S939 CPUs, but production is going to stop end of this year. The Socket 754 will stay because it’s the low budget market, and low budget is harder to kill as you probably know .
