It's called Firefox and Opera.

You can navigate with just the keyboard, too. Tab and Alt keys do wonders.

I'd recommend that you do start fresh each time. -
Opera is the most stable and secure browser I've ever seen. You never her of any vulnerability in Opera, but you do for FF and IE.

Jcarle, I'd say that's pretty much it. I usually don't like to spend too much time throwing nonsense around with someone with their head up their a**. -

What Anti-Virus do you Use/Recommend?
Jeremy replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
azagahl, I just came back from a beautiful stay in my hometown, nature trails, away from all this technology that makes people lazy, away from nitpicky ignorant people, laughing and having a great time with best friends, you know... The last thing I want to read when I return is some super-paranoid grammar-obsessed guy going on about "time bombs" in anti-virus software. I say you blame AVG for something else's fault. You bite back with "pointlessness" and "awkward sentence structure". This is a typical attempt to point out every possible interpreted fault by the other person so that you can avoid the issue at hand, which is that you don't have the slightest clue of what you're talking about. If you did, you would see other people besides yourself complaining about AVG's so-called time-bombs. -
True, but it's targeted by a lot of malware and lacks the functionality and flexibility of 3rd party ones like Outpost Firewall v4.0. However, argumentatively, a firewall is better than no firewall. But I: 1. Am behind a router (D-Link DI-604) 2. Am wired, not wireless. 3. Use a great deal of computer sense. I no longer run a software firewall but do use anti-virus to scan downloaded files. That's all.

I just tested the latest ZoneAlarm in VMware, and I advise all to stay far away from it. It killed my connection virtually and locally. I closed VMware, still no connection. I rebooted, still nothing. I tried to renew my IP address, but it failed. It wasn't until I physically unplugged and reocnnected my router that my connection was revived. Also, it has a GUI that looks like it was made by designers on esctasy. It has anti-virus, anti-spyware, and pop-up/ad blocking as well, which makes it more of an All-In-One than just a firewall. Outpost dominates this as far as flexibility, adaptability, GUI and memory usage go.

I prefer changelogs, and finals.

www.opera.com If you want to try installing it again and encounter the same problem, use Dial-A-Fix and see if that resolves the issue.

When in doubt, Google is your friend. First result.

If the company behind the program is problematic and dishonest, then so will the program. Symantec has a nice GUI and options, but from what I hear, it's something you'd want to replace ASAP.

What's The Best Antivirus for Windows XP Pro x64?

Azagahl, it was something you overlooked and seemingly coincidentally happening at the same time of trying AVG, so you chose to blame incorrectly, happens sometimes. However, if I were you, I would have got to the bottom of it instead of just blaming something and ending it there. I prefer not to be misguided. ClamWin: Main GUI Not a whole lot to that. It could lead you to believe there's very little to the program at all, but surprisingly the preferences are vast. Preferences - General Preferences - Filters Preferences - Updates Preferences - Proxy Preferences - Scheduled Scans Preferences - E-mail Alerts Preferences - Archives Preferences - File Locations Preferences - Reports Preferences - Advanced Processes after full system scan System Scan Report This anti-virus is nice as far as the GUI and memory usage go, but unfortunately, according to the Admin of AV-Comparatives (click Here) ClamWin detects ~60% of the total amount of viruses they test AV with. Sure you can argue using a point I made asking what the chances are of actually getting one of the ~40% of viruses that ClamWin apparently doesn't detect, but personally I'd rather an AV that misses only 1-2% than ~40%. But then again, that post is from 11/07/2005. Also, the fact that it can be run portably will win points from many users. If you just need something small, portable that can scan quickly, then sure I'd recommend ClamWin. For heavy duty work that needs to be taken critically, Kaspersky or NOD32. -
If you have Norton/Symantec/McAfee Anti-Virus installed that would also explain why your shutdown process is unusually slow.

What's The Best Antivirus for Windows XP Pro x64?
Jeremy replied to PauloPires's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Norton (2006) and McAfee (2006) aren't good AV at all for two main reasons: 1. They are very heavy on system resources. Both in their GUI (<Screenshot) and processes/services. Screenshots: Processes while Idle (just running in the background, not scanning) Processes after a full system scan Services Now compare those with these following screenshots from Kaspersky and NOD32: Kaspersky Main GUI Processes, er, process rather while Idle After a full system scan NOD32 Main GUI Scanning GUI Scanning Options 1 Scanning Options 2 Processes While Idle Processes After Full System Scan Now why have such an unnecessarily massive application installed when a smaller one that takes up much less memory and has a more compact and organized GUI can defend against viruses better? 2. They do have good detection rates, however, are not good at actually removing viruses. Sure, they have the money to market their products so everyone knows about them, and they may very well be the pioneers of the anti-virus industry that paved the way for future products, but far more efficient products have stepped up to the plate. Kaspersky and NOD32 are the two very best anti-virus products when taking the following into consideration: a. GUI b. Ease of use c. memory footprint d. Filesize e. Features f. Detection rates They have both recently, within the last week, come out with final new versions which fully support x64. Try these out, update them, and configure them to their maximum scanning capability. I hope you find satisfaction with one or the other. He probabaly had Norton or Symantec or McAfee which would slow down his already slow machine. Had he tried Kaspersky or NOD32, he would be flabbergasted. Both KAV and NOD32 have new versions within the past few days as well, both finals. -

Oh yeah, I remember that. MPC was without an updated version for months back in the day and I read on the MPC forums, someone stated that Gabest was working on a "Direct3D plugin" for this PSemu. I guess the hard work is paying off.

Wow. 11,700 drivers built-in with Vista... Nuhi, you should be able to strip off a few GBs just by removing drivers alone, and then Languages? nLite for Vista shouldn't take long at all, eh?

Last time I used this, I'm pretty sure it did clean that out completely. I could always load Norton up in VMware and try, but I don't want my virtual machine to get sick.
