  1. The Component Removal process has most certainly changed from what I can tell from previous nlites. I sorta knew what to expect from some things when I removed them. Now there are so many more options and options within options. My willingness to remove new things is not there because 90% of the time I break my whole setup & never know why. Then again you may never need that item either. I'd like to know everything that changes & gets removed. So I hope this can help. A really nice add on to nlite would be to include what reg entries, files and things that are done when you remove a component or anything with nlite. I would be willing to bet that people have conflicting things that affect what nlite removes by either putting back, deleting before nlite is ready or replacing a file before nlite is ready. Getting that detail in there would narrow down 100's or 1000's of errors with nlite, add-ons, and apps etc. Potentially a lot of questions would no longer need to be asked. People would know for example what nlite deletes either what file or reg entry (named whatever) at a certain point in the install. Then when you run blank app & explorer is looking for that file (or reg entry) because blank app needs it during its install or startup. Normally Explorer would crash and you get a nice blue screen due to the missing data & not know WHY & get frustrated. But with this info to solve you just have to look up the info in nlite to narrow it down & fix it or you could get rid of that app (not what i'd wanna do). Sometimes these issues do not surface for weeks after an install is complete. While your still testing it and thinking its fine. Ultimately this add on would help people be more comfortable with nlite. Because you could narrow down & discover if what your experiencing is even nlites doing at all. Like for example there are lots of issues I have had that I wondered about. I never see this behavior on vanilla windows could it be nlite or is it something else I'm doing. I Don't think nuhi can handle doing this on his own though. I know many of the users know or understand what is removed with some components and may be able to aid in this add on to nlite. If the list can be started then nuhi can certainly fill in the blanks. Making it a lot easier to finish. Then we can add this info to nlite under each component or thing removed. Hope everyone agrees Lets get the list going and have people post what is removed with whatever components as far as we all know.
  2. I'm glad you got it working Raghul.. I have seen a lot of reasons why copy errors would occur. Ram, cd-rom, HD and even Mainboard. All of which I have ruled out from my issue. Those are usually the most common and easiest problems to find. I still had the copy errors with Xable's Update Pack. I would switch back to ryans and get no copy issues. Now I have not tried Xable's most recent pack nor 1.3 RC2 of nlite. last was 1.3 RC1 of nlite and xables dec pack. One of Raghuls suggestions might be worth getting into the next nlite. The Component Removal process has most certainly changed from what I can tell. A really nice add on to nlite would be to include what reg entries, files and things that are done when you remove a component with nlite. I would be willing to bet that people have confliting things that affect what nlite removes by either putting back, deleting before nlite is ready to delete or replacing a file before nlite is ready to. 3. This would be sweet. I think this is something nuhi would like to add but its one of those that would be nice kinda things. I think we can all help at least start this. I know a lot of people know what is removed with some things so if we can start a list (topic) on this then nuhi can fill in the blanks it would be a lot eaiser for him to do it that way. These could be added to the description under whatever item you are removing in nlite. What could also be added is a list of popular apps within reason (top 3) that are affected by removing some items. I also would like to see the file sizes updated for some components (if you remove them). I think some of them are wrong. The reg entries would be a huge thing. Having all of this would stop A LOT problems nlite users have. Once you have the info you can narrow down the issue to one reg entry or file. Man that would be NICE!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Your getting this wirh 1.3? I thought this problem was gone since 1.2 or at least 1.2.1. Strange but I dont integrate drivers maybe thats it.
  5. RaGhul.. Interesting that you said you have a ms slipstreamed xpsp2. I also have a directly integrated xp sp2 copy from ms. Also the issue with xable's pack is identical to mine. I believe it has to do with the source in some way. Perhaps nlite does something different when it sees that source. The only reason i use that disc as opposed to one where I slipstreamed sp2 myself is because its actually smaller then when I do it manually. Have you ever updated an sp1 disc to sp2 and seen this difference in size? I have had many issues with nlite since 1.2 was released with my copy of xpsp2. Before that version it seems that nlite liked my xpsp2 from ms but after it has not. I have not tried 1.3rc yet but I plan to tonite and maybe this one will work better overall. If not I plan to try the manual sp2 and see what happens that way.
  6. I had same problem. does not happen with ryans pack so i switched back. plus xables makes you install wga.
  7. I tried 1.3 & it is no different then 1.2.1. It seems that after 1.2 nuhi did something big & altered the way nlite works at its core. I have found so many strange issues with nlite since that point that i exclusively use 1.0 & 1.01 now.
  8. Gosh what a hassle.. All to use a legit license.
  9. but his cd may not work with nlite being compaq & all.. ohh no he might have to get a retail copy off.. oh no dare i say it.... a friend (internet).. but oh no thats illegal But he has a legit key. Why is that illegal if he uses it with his key? This is why I hate M$.. Nuff Said...
  10. just take out one stick and send it to me. LOL
  11. Speeddymon & Ver Greeneyes yeah I have gone back to the drawing board basicly been testing a few install methods for the last few days to see if one of the installs does not have this issue. I really think its an update that changed how one of my reg tweaks works. I have tests a few installs and all have suffered this same fate but interestly enough its a little different each time. Also the problem appears to go away after frequest use of the machine. So maybe I wont find an answer and this will just go away. I'm using vmware to test. I am using ryans newest pack 2.1.5a & xable's dec pack. Also I'm testing nlite 1.3 beta. **Does anyone know of a really good reg tweak thread. I want to look into updating all of my reg tweaks. I have like a couple 100 and I'd love to check them against something or someones list to make sure there all still valid. I wish a program exsisted that would scan reg files to ensure there still valid. I will report back when I find a solid fix for this. THANKS ALL
  12. jkey honestly that was lame. M$'s WGA & BS registration process wastes a lot of time. I completely agree with Ronaldo linux is the good choice. I have been reading a lot about M$'s future plans with WGA and the lot and from here on out its only going to get worse for the legit user. Microsoft's last days are upon us. Versions of linux are coming ever so close to windows desktop ease of use. If apple ever releases a version of there OS on the PC look out as horrids of PC users would quickly jump ship. I'm sorry Ronaldo but you have no options about the evil empires reg process for now. Give it time and they will either pull back or feel the consumer wrath.
  13. it would be cool if nuhi added a feature to add your own reg entries into nlite. The one problem with that is i use about 2-3 reg files which get added at different times during the install. t-12, at first then later during runonce.
  14. seems like the same problem i have here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=88507 how long have you waited before thinking it did not work? Takes mine upto 20 mins before connection actually works. In my case i get connected but no packets. Do you experence this?
  15. Add the reg file as part of your runonce. or do it during the cmdlines part of the install.

    nLite

I tried this a while back, & sadly no one responded. It would HELP A LOT if people would post there results with nlite as opposed to everyone just doing things on there own. I for one would also like to add to your list reg tweaks people use with nlite. I know nlite has a lot but It will never have some of the very custom ones I made for my machine. Maybe someone would want some of these custom tweaks. It would help to know if some tweaks are still working with the newer updates or newer nlite version. Another possible thing people could list is there scripts they have made & tricks nlite users use in there runonce and clean up scripts. New discoveries or whatever.
  17. Does the bios see it & allow booting? Or are you starting from a CD then switching to USB. Or are you trying to install on the USB device? The blue screen probably has more to do with a corrupt file or the source of files then anything. If you can boot to it then obviously windows setup is working. As far as using a usb disc to install to that can be tricky.
  18. yes you can. Remove IE core and IE in nlite, Which is all of IE. Without the core you can not use some other browsers though and some apps that depend on the core.
  19. I'm really looking for expereces here. I cant image they are exactly the same. There has to be some self maid reg files or scripts that are used in these and thus one persons approach is likly different then anothers or more likely better in some setups then others. You know windows there is like at least 3 ways to do anything. & where are the boooggy fans?
  20. wait how did you get it to boot then. Some hacked bios or what?
  21. Wow new nlite for christmas.. Just what I wanted. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
  22. Welcome to MSFN. You can do it with nlite. remove IE & the core & if you like all the additional items that go along with explorer and your set. His method is an after install method (well some of it is). Nlite is a full package. remove IE and a lot more.
