  1. Thanks a lot nuhi - I'll give that a try.
  2. The BIOS order is right. CD drive, then HDD. Normally you can do this and not have a CD in the drive - it'll just check and then proceed when it finds none. How do I flag my boot partition as bootable? Thanks for your help.
  3. Hi folks, I've been nLiting for years but the past couple of times with one machine in particular I seem to be making a mistake and removing something I shouldn't be. Essentially, I can't boot into Windows without having my nLited CD in the optical drive. If I try to boot in without it it asks me to 'PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER'. This is usable. If I keep my nLited disk in at all times then things go as they should. But it's not optimal by any stretch. The big risk is that when someone boots up they'll accidentally press a button when prompted and reformat the disk. Does anyone have any idea which file it may be that I'm deleting that I shouldn't be? It's very frustrating, especially so because I don't really rip too many files out of my install in the first place. Thanks in advance. Ronaldo.
  4. A quick question - the title says it all: Will I be able to nLite XP 64 bit Edition? Or is it time for me to make the move to Vista (& vLite)? Thanks.
  5. I'm soon to be donating my 'old' computer to my family. My XP Pro SP2 licence will go with that computer. To replace the computer I'll be building something along the lines of this: Asus P5K Intel P35 Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 GeIL GX22GB6400UDC ECS 8600 GT Corsair HX 520W Now - I've been nLiting for ages. Love the program. Big ups nuhi! XP nLited does everything it needs to do for me. I essentially use my computer to listen to music, watch films, surf the Net, email, etc. The most taxing stuff I do is F@H, use ACID/SoundForge and play the odd game. My question is: Should I buy XP Pro SP2 again or should I make the switch to Vista (& if so which version)? The way I see it, the pros & cons of getting XP again are: PROS: Know it inside out - comfortable working around with it Slightly cheaper than Vista at this point nLite has been in development for a long time Lighter on resources than Vista Drivers are all there and stable I have all my apps for XP - don't know if these will work under Vista CONS: Not moving forward with technology I may be missing some functionality that's 'must have' No DX10 - I'm no big gamer by any stretch but I will have a DX10 capable GFX card I'll probably have to upgrade to Vista at some point anyway??? - Will I? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Hiya, I've done many nLites before, generally without any problems. My family said they wanted an nLited system so I went and made them one. I used the LastSession .ini from my latest effort and (of course) changed the product key and some other fields. Everything is fine except to say that if I try and boot up the system it absolutely requires the nLited disc to be in the CD drive. This is despite the fact that I've made only the HD1 seek in the BIOS. I'm worried that the family will boot up and press a key (with the nLited disc in the tray) and start off the process of reformatting the hard disk. Anyone else run into this problem? Any way I can fix it (save going thru' the whole process again)? Thanks very much in advance. Ronaldo.
  7. Hey folks. I've done my 20th nLite just now and for some reason I seem to have gotten rid of the (very handy) 'Show Desktop' icon from the Quick Launch bar this time around. Does anyone know a way I can get it back. I don't really want to go through the whole process of re-installing if possible. Cheers.
  8. Hey strotee76, thanks for the reply. I can see where you're coming from and in the future I definitely will be leaving more stuff on the install disc. (Particularly with Vista's release, a couple more MBs on an XP disc looks like chicken feed.) This time around tho', I've been using the nLited disc for perhaps half a year, never dreaming of ever scanning anything and things were fine. It's just that now, half a year on, I need that functionality. In this way, testing on VMWare wouldn't have helped me out. Cheers anyway - I'm probably due for a reinstall besides. Ronaldo. PS: I'm still waiting on someone with news that you can reinstall TWAIN or WIA or whatever it is that I need but I doubt it will come.
  9. When I last slipstreamed using nLIte I removed scanner functionality thinking I wouldn't need it. Now I need to scan some photos. Now I need to reinstall WIA and/or TWAIN drivers I believe. Does anyone know how to do this? Cheers.
  10. Cheers Madhits45. Looks like it's back to Linux then. Pity. I quite like XP.
  11. Spending 15 minutes on the phone every month promising I'm not stealing something I've paid for isn't a stupid reason to make the switch back in my books. Now... can anyone answer my question?
  12. Hi, I've been using nLite for ages now. Love it! Great program. I'm a frequent reformatter. I have a legitimate OEM copy of Windows XP Pro SP2. This I have nLited. I recently re-installed Windows and then tried to activate it. It said I had to phone some number which I did. My copy of Windows is activated again but the woman on the phone said that I'd have to do this each time I re-installed Windows. Is this really the case? And why has it only happened now after so many years? If it is the case, then I'll be back on Linux straight away. Thanks. Ronaldo.
  13. Yeah, but my whole point gdogg is that I want this stuff on smaller boards, i.e. mATX. I, too, have a DFI (an Ultra-D) and they are the only way to go - agreed. In fact, I think that DFI would be the only company with the balls to release a board such as I suggested. I'm actually surprised they haven't already seeing as they cater very much to the LAN market. Smaller boards would surely be an attractive feature to LAN gamers. Can't wait for the Core 2 Duo DFI boards to land. Ronaldo.
