  1. I've uninstalled StartIsBack many times, and I never choose to delete the settings and license data when uninstalling it. Therefore, all the items I added to the Start Menu are always there when I reinstall it or install StartIsBlack Plus.
  2. Thanks for the new version. User picture looks fine with 100%, 125% and 150% of the item size. It just doesn't fix with my odd custom settings!
  3. Andre, I deleted them both by using Unlocker. I was wrong about the size of these two folders though. After deleting them, I have more than 2 GB of free space on the hard disk. Btw, I notice something strange and silly about Win 8.1. I opened several applications on the Start Screen and then closed them one by one. After that, I saw them all still running in the Task Manager and I had to stop them there again. This new feature of Win 8.1 reminds me of the very first version of Win 8 I had 2 years ago!
  4. Er... I didn't mean to sound rude on that previous post! I thought you were only interested in replying to Andre! OK, thanks for explaining about the settings of the windows border.
  5. I didn't read the above post before sending a message to Andre asking about $Windows.~BT and Windows.old! Too bad, it seems that we can't delete these two folders, huh? They are not big on my computer however, one is 100 MB and the other 37 MB. I just don't like to see or have such folders on the Windows drive at all!
  6. Tihiy, The account picture doesn't display properly on my Start Menu. It's a little below the place where it should be. Is it because I don't use the default size of the items in Display Options? Edit: removing the picture.
  7. I know all the items on the screenshot except for "border padding", so I asked. Does it take you guys much time to give a short reply?
  8. Many thanks! Like it because it's easy to change the icon spacing. Um... what do you mean by "border padding"?
  9. Andre, The update from the Store didn't work for me! I had to install W8.1 by the iso file. The About says I can use this version till Jan 2014, but I'll restore W8 very soon. I am used to Windows with Start Menu and theme Aero 8. And above all, I don't like to see the text of evaluation copy on the desktop anymore. PS. Perhaps I should forget all about trying any new version of W8. It's not so exciting as it used to be, especially it's when I, for the first time, had W8 DP. Edit: remove image
  10. When the downloading was around 20% complete, I had this error: I had to uninstall StartIsBack and the UltraUXTheme patcher so that there were no changes in the system files at all. I also unplugged the TV set from my computer. After a reboot, the update started to download again from the scratch! It says 40% complete now. Never thought I can be so patient with W8 this time! Edit: remove attachment
  11. Wow, it's very fast, indeed. I feel as if it wanted me to change my mind and install W8.1 with the iso file instead of updating through the store. I'll be patient and wait for the download to be finished. No matter how long it will take, I don't mind at all. OK, won't disturb this topic by talking about W8.1 anymore. I promise!!!
  12. Tihiy, Do I need to uninstall SIB or just disable it before updating W8 to W8.1 preview?
  13. Then can you move this topic back to Win 8 forum, Tripredacus? It's a preview version just like the others. DP, CP and RP that we used to talk about in W8 forum.
  14. MaxXPsoft, I already made an image of the current W8 as well as a system recovery USB. According to the second reason you quoted I understand that I can update W8.1 preview to W8.1 final. I only have to install all the applications again at that time. Do you know how long we will be able to use this preview version before the final version comes into existence? Hope it's not less than 3 months.
  15. Glad that finally there is a seperate topic to talk about Windows 8.1! I downloaded and installed these versions of W8: W8 DP, W8 CP, W8 RP and finally W8 RTM, which became W8 Pro with Media Center afterwards. They are all ISO files and I installed them new on an empty partition. And with every new version of W8, I had to install quite a few applications again so that I could use Windows in a comfortable way. I also had to go through the settings of each application to choose what options I feel like the most. It took a lot of time to do this and it was the most boring thing to do in my opinion! I want something different this time, so I've chosen to update the current W8. I don't know if anyone here has the same choice as I have. It would be nice if other people who have already installed or tried W8.1 would come to share their own images of W8.1 as well as their thoughts, likes and dislikes about this new version too. Edit: remove attachments
  16. Aviv, If you don't like using the applications on the Start Screen at all then I think you have got the best choice of this explorer7.
  17. Hi MrGrim, On this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/preview-iso When I choose English 32-bit (x86), the file I download is named as WindowsBlue-ClientwithApps-32bit-English-X1899604.iso and it is bigger than the update I'm getting through Windows Store. It will take around 4 hours to finish downloading the ISO. I decided to get it in case the update doesn't work fine. Don't know why it's too slowly through the Store, only 6% complete so far. PS. You seem to be very keen on dark themes!
  18. But that topic talks about Windows 8, not Windows 8.1. This explorer7 still works fine on W8 in general, right? Never think time passes by so fast. You made this thread almost a year ago, Tihiy!
  19. Installed SIB 2.1.1 and couldn't tell anything special about it yet. Perhaps it has fixed the problem with the icons messed up on the Start Menu. Not very sure, though. Tihiy and MrGrim, How long did it take you two to get Windows 8.1? It seems to be forever for me! I wonder when it will finish this downloading. Or never will it! Edit: remove attachment
  20. I searched for UxStyle and came across this interesting thread: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/37000-UxStyle-updated-for-windows-8-%28experimental%29 On page 6 people said UxStyle modified the system files too but in a different way. I do want to try UxStyle but the file I downloaded says UxStyle_Core_Sep3_Experimental_x64. That means it supports W8 64 only.
  21. The patch I've used is UltraUXThemePatcher. Here: http://www.syssel.net/hoefs/software_uxtheme.php?lang=en Have you tried it yet? I used it for XP and W7 too when I was still using these OS's. No problems at all. May I ask what themes you were applying?
  22. I installed a leak version of Win 8.1 (perhaps build 9385). No Start Menu. Can't say much about it either because I removed it after 2 hours of exploring. Not sure why I couldn't install Net framework 3.5. As a result, I couldn't run some needed applications. I'll wait for a better official version to try. Now I am pleased with current Win 8 I am having.
  23. Hi Pengipete, I didn't say you said it was or wasn't "related to the trial expiration"! I was just saying I didn't think so when I happened to read your post again which seemed to me that you pointed to a possible solution somewhat related to the expiration. Hope you don't find my post ambiguous at all! There's something else I want to say. Sometimes when I click on the start button I see the icons of some applications being messed up. For example, Start Screen has the icon of File Explorer, MS Word of Calculator, Calculator of Paint, and so on. I leave them and a few minutes later I check, they have fixed themselves.
  24. Then this should not be called a problem or a bug at all. About your post here: I don't think this is related to the trial expiration. Tihiy said the applications had their own icons since version 2.0. I just read back some pages and found out the first version of SIB I installed is 2.0.2. After installing it I entered the key at once. And a few days later when I looked through folder Start Apps, all the icons were blank.
  25. There are not so many items on the next page of my Start Menu. The scroll bar only appears when I open some folders there. If I completely leave the Start Menu, all the folders will collapse and the scroll bar won't be there anymore. Let's wait for someone who has a long list of items on the second page to check this problem for you.
