  1. Andre, May I try this Win8 RTM too? I mean, where can I get the setup file? For how long can I try this version? Do you know when it will expire? Am I a little cruel if I choose No in the poll? It is much appreciated if you can give any answer to any question! Thanks in advance!
  2. Hell! I've just read through some old posts and find out I made a big mistake in this one: Actually, I wanted to ask why it couldn't solve my problem! And by "it" I mean explorer 7, I didn't mean you, Tihiy! Don't know why I didn't read my post carefully before posting it at that time. Hey, Tihiy, you know well that I am a reasonable and polite person, right? I won't say something mindless like that!
  3. Actually, I always copy folder Explorer7 with the two needed unpatched files to a new place. Then I put the new patch into this folder and run it there. When I know the new explorer runs OK, what I need to do is delete the old folder. I don't have to change it back to explorer 8 before using the new patch. Thanks for this upgrading.
  4. I wonder why he can't solve the problem relating to the scroll bar I mentioned in my own topic. It is explorer 7, and this problem doesn't happen on W7 at all. In case there is a new update, I would like it possible to log out through the start menu instead of having to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. And ... I think Tomasz86 just offered where to get explorer 7, he didn't ask for the way how to get it!
  5. This explorer 7 is more interesting than I thought. - Now there are sounds when I sign out, sign in or shut down or start the computer. - With explorer 8, the automatic theme always makes the title bar and the taskbar have the same color when I change the wallpaper. This explorer 7 lets them choose color severally. The color of the taskbar always blends well with the color at the bottom of the wallpaper, while the title bar will have the dominate color of the whole picture. This means sometimes they have the same color, sometimes they have different color. And I really like this!
  6. Okay, it works. The taskbar looks better now. Thank you. Btw, I put the two needed files in a safe folder so that I can easily get them for the new patch! I guess we will need them a few more times.
  7. I wasn't whining! Just wanted to tell everyone not to make the same mistake. Look at the download count of the attachment, sir! Don't say that I need your desktop file so much that I have to download it four times in all! I won't say thanks because you said I was whining! ---------------------- Warrior, When I click on Explorer on the taskbar, another icon of it will jump out. It doesn't combine with the available icon. This doesn't happen when I click on IE. Something like this: Do you think this should be fixed?
  8. Gosh, Tihiy. You should have warned me not to delete anything on Start Menu of explorer 7 because it will make the tiles on Start screen of explorer 8 disappear too! Why didn't you tell me something like this: Adding icons to Start Menu of explorer 7 is also adding tiles on Start Screen of explorer 8. Deleting icons on Start Menu of explorer 7 is deleting tiles on Start Screen of explorer 8 too. And ... I am searching for the way to get back the Desktop tile now!
  9. I can customize the notifications now. Both "Pin to Start" and "Pin to Taskbar" work perfect. (Edit: I mean the Pinning on Right click context.) "Use large icons" in Start Menu properties doesn't work, the icons still display small, but I think it's OK. Thanks for making this patch, Tihiy. I decide to use this explorer a few more days to see if there is anything else to complain!
  10. Thanks. I don't know that we can put the pagefile somewhere else rather than on the OS drive. I decide to leave it there. Glad that now I can change its size back to the same size as before. PS. I notice that I can call you Warrior! ------------------------ Hey Vinifera, We are just waiting for the new patch from Tihiy.
  11. RoirraW, Thanks for the reply. Please suggest what I should put in Maximum size box. Edit: remove the image.
  12. Many thanks, SausageHack. I don't look at the system files every day. When I tried Tihiy's patch, logged out and then signed in a couples of times, and I find out the pagefile.sys has changed its size, not sure when. If I hadn't put the new folder with the patch on the drive where I installed W8, I wouldn't have known about this change. I am very surprised. Any chance that W8 made this change itself?! Because I never touch this file or change anything recently. And my computer works fine with the current RAM installed. Task Manager says usage of memory is usually around 27-28%. I just found this page and guess I can change the size of pagefile.sys: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/set-virtual-memory-paging-default.html But now after reading your post, I wonder if it is necessary to set this size back. Or I should leave it as it is now? Thanks again for replying. ----------------- Tihiy, Sorry for asking something irrelevant here. Hope will stop it soon. Regards. Edit: remove the image.
  13. Wow, it seems that I misunderstood. He might want to get rid of the ribbon completely. Can I ask something a little off topic? Is there any relation between explorer.exe and pagefile.sys? I remember when I first installed W8, the pagefile was around 3 GB. A few days ago I happened to see it and found that it is only 524 MB! I don't know how to set it back to the default, I mean the recommended size before. Topic split from:
  14. Okay Laser. then it doesn't matter which Windows you choose to use, welcome to the forum and enjoy your stay. Have fun!
  15. Laser, I think you can run Win XP on this computer. You can choose to use classic theme, classic start menu so that it looks just like Win 98. Win XP will help you with the USB stick problem.
  16. You can always disable the ribbon of the explorer. There's a small button next to Help button on the menu bar. Click on it to show or hide the ribbon.
  17. There are 12 downloads but not all come to give feedback. Are you going to update this patch to make a better explorer, Tihiy? I don't mind testing it again. And, why Charlotte keeps editing his post? Is there anything wrong?
  18. Not bad! But it sounds like I am complaining, not like I am asking for solutions. And no one will come to help. Thanks anyway for suggestion!
  19. Not sure, perhaps after 7 we must shout 8 immediately, just like when we were young we learnt how to count numbers!!! Btw, I even don't know why they call W7 as W7! Then: Windows 5.2 ... 5 + 2 = 7 >>> Windows XP-64 = Win 7!!? ------------------ Tihiy, The patch works fine but I change it back to W8 already. This Explorer makes Start Menu look nicer than the start menu when we use Classic Shell, but it doesn't works as good as the Classic Shell. And I don't like it when I can't customize the notifications!
  20. Well, it can't be "several" because there are 3 versions of W8 installed, one after another of course. If I divided all problems into three, then I would say "some".Moreover, a few problems have gone when I installed a newer version. Maybe I should consider them as annoyance instead of problems.
  21. Another automatic problem! The wallpaper position of the Desktop Background keeps changing to Center although I've set it to Fill many times! Don't know how to stop this at all!
  22. How about cursing? At least allow people to curse in case their computers crash after they run the patch! W8 is working so fine for me that I am a little afraid of trying this. Any suggestion, Tihiy? I'm downloading the patch now! As for the poll, why there isn't a "No" only, I can't choose the two weird "No" choices above! A new OS should have something new and different from the old one. I wouldn't call it W8 if it looked just the same as W7. --------------------------------- Andre, You begin to like W8, huh?
  23. W8 boots up and shuts down faster than W7 when I have dual boots. W7 starts rather fast when it is the only OS. But I still think W8 alone is faster than W7 alone. And I notice that on my computer, W8 usage of memory is approximately 100 MB less than that of W7. I vote for W8.
  24. Thanks a lot for the link! I follow exactly what the guide says and it works perfect. It's interesting that Minesweeper works fine too, no matter where I put it and it needs no patching. Edit: delete picture.
  25. Xpclient, Many thanks for posting the list. Now I know why many people want a tutorial to trim down their Windows. There are many things on the list I don't use and even don't know what they are! I am glad that this version of W8 remove most of them because I don't need or ever use them. Yet, I am interested in this part of your post: Would you mind teaching me how to do it? Or if there is already a tutorial somewhere, please share the link. Thank you in advance.
