this is kinda what im looking for but not exactly. i have 2 PCs on my desk -my new vista machine connected to my monitor via DVI and my old XP machine that has had issues recently with the screensaver not starting. the problem comes in when Vista activates the screensaver, 15 minutes goes by and powers off the screen. The monitor detects no input on DVI and switches to VGA where it proceeds to attempt to burn the XP desktop into my 24" LCD monitor (please no one tell me LCD burn-in doesn't occur -I have a 19" LCD in my office with a sunflower desktop wallpaper permanently burnt into it that begs to differ) besides the terror of seeing a ghost XP desktop for the rest of this monitors life, i have to access the menu on the monitor to switch it back to DVI when i return to my desk. If this program could be modified to start the blank screen screensaver after the interval specified, that would prevent the monitor from switching and let me use a screensaver on this machine again (im using 'blank screen' with a modified power profile at the moment)

just gave it a run and noticed a small bug. when applying a setting on any other tab, drive icon assignments are overwritten even if no changes were made on the icons tab. other than that minor problem, it looks great

my XP 32 is 4.71 GB (5,062,624,566 bytes) but theres prolly a lot of junk in there

my guess is your using the wrong version of XP pro(there a at least 5 -OEM, Corp/vlk, Retail, Upgrade, SP2c) because ive never heard of nlite causing cdkey authentication issues like you are describing. edit: unless you integrated SP3 then you could have the same issue as this thread http://www.msfn.org/board/xp-sp3-cd-key-t111379.html

slipstream xp locks when security center message comes up
PC_LOAD_LETTER replied to Fishfood's topic in Windows XP
unless you have an exe on your machine named system.exe i think you are looking at the wrong column. the column that will tell you the name of the program is labeled "Image Name" -
MS office, Staroffice, Corel Office, Thinkfree, google docs, or open office are about it I think

can you get taskmgr to open at all? (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) if you can, check the processes and sort by the CPU column to see what .exe is eating the CPU. might give you a better idea of whats happening. -

this thread has been dead for a month. Hes prolly fixed it by now (i hope) -
only thing i can think of in #1 is do you have rights to the files you are trying to move? (not in use, owned by another user, etc) as for #2 i recommend not using the Built-in Administrator account in Vista (or any OS for that matter) but its definatly not worth the extra trouble in Vista. Just create another user and add him to the administrators group.

Vlite is freeware. not a trial. the restrictions noted in the license agreement are legal restrictions not program restrictions.

looks like your not the first person to see this issue http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...581487&st=0 http://rias-techno-wizard.blogspot.com/200...s-100-high.html http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/201251.aspx Id try the third fix first because it seems to be the only one that isnt a knee-jerk reaction method (its not working right so delete/disable it) instead of finding the source of the problem if that doesn't work, there seems to be no shortage of people with opinions on how to fix it

aviv00, i have merged your topic with this one. since it is essentially asking the same question. Hopefully this will cut down on the duplicate posts for this issue and maybe get us a solution

Sorry if I offended you Headjerk. I hope you get every dime you spent on tooling, testing, patenting back and then some. As for the 4$ part, Ive spent MANY hours repairing laptop power connectors, ethernet ports, and USB ports done from sudden damage (yanks, falls, etc) and very few from damage done over a long period of time due to wear like you describe. but that may be because we keep our mobile computers on a relatively short lifecycle and rely on the type of warranties Iceman is talking about to cover our butts.

just to confirm that your not going crazy jcarle, I had the same problem earlier -clicking on http://www.msfn.org/board/get-new-posts.html just redirected me to http://www.msfn.org/board/ i would have posted but i was at work and just checking for a second (kinda in read-only mode)

its not sad that you put this up. whats sad is that i watched it for almost a minute until i realized its 12:10 am, I have to wake up at 7 tomorrow for work and im sitting in front of my computer eating Good & Plentys waiting for a gerbil thats halfway across the planet to move. Thats sad.

This prolly belongs in a humor oriented forum but i think the manufacturer is serious so im putting it in hardware http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/20/the-jer...es-little-else/ apparently its better to rip a USB/Modem/Network port off the motherboard and/or cause the laptop to go crashing off the table than it is to repair potential damage to the power plug on the laptop hell if they woulda secured the thing to the security slot, it might have made a little sense as those slots are designed to take a little abuse (quick somebody patent that)

yeah ive seen this before but its been a while(i think they fixed it in one of the 6.x versions). if you alter a frozen partition, it can prevent the df5serv service from running (thats what allows you to ctrl-alt-shift-f6) but the drive is still stuck frozen. i attempt to install a newer version even though your frozen because i know they fixed this im just not sure how you would get back to a working state. if you are unable to upgrade to the newer version you could try windows steadystate on your next build. its free but doesnt have all the features of DF
