referenced on wikipedia != legal. apples decision to force users onto their proprietary hardware is what they do. they arent gonna let you run OSX on a 'beige box' even if its the exact thing chip for chip as their overpriced hardware.

its legit (its operated by Microsoft directly) ive never personally ordered from there but i know several students that have used it.

yes there is. it involves 2 easy steps: Learn C/C++/C# Write the program yourself alternately, you can use a program somebody else wrote. who said anything about buggy unknown programs? the program works 100% on Vista so therefore its not "buggy". I use it for the exact purpose you described so its not "unknown". as for "3rd party" you were a linux user and you didnt get comfortable with 3rd party programs? what distro did you run? linux is the most amazing hodge-podge of 3rd party code the world has ever seen. the fact that its even usable should tell you all you need to know about "3rd party" programs.

OK first off you cannot legally install vista to multiple machine without first purchasing a license. You can of course physically install on more than 1 PC. This of course is not legal but I have heard of many instances of people doing this without problems. However, that type of behavior is EXACTLY what WGA is designed to prevent so those users could have 1 or all of their machines with the same product key forced into "Reduced Functionality Mode" at any time. It could appear to work for a while but then fail WGA after a period. Then the only recovery methods available is either reinstall or purchase a valid license. easiest way is to just buy a second license: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-v.../licensing.aspx

'huge learning curves' = shorter paths to users files BSODs, crashing dlls = employment Micro$oft = Microsoft You know i hate how greedy Microsoft is. They only released Vista to get more money. Yeah we need Windows XP SP12 in 2017 before they should try to make any money by releasing a new OS! They should just stop releasing new OSes and pay their bills with magic and smiles instead of dollars. Im sure their shareholders would understand. Sure they wouldnt make any money or push the market forward but shareholders like to make other people feel good so they wouldnt mind. Releasing a new product when their previous one has only been on the market for 5 years? Now thats pointless profit mongering im you ask me. sounds like you hate Vista but id be willing to bet youd love Windows Mojave

SP1a is the only thing ive ever seen MS recommend to have installed prior to applying SP3. I dont need a snopes article to tell me that a pirated windows distro wasnt developed inside MS with approval. I think you are confusing the MinWin* project with 'litened up and cracked versions of windows. *on a related note, the hostname of Windows Vista during setup is "MINWIN"

well most linux distros are free and redhat (a non free distro) requires subscription to RHN to download updates (critical or not) so thats worse than WGA if you ask me (ties your personal info to your license key). I cant say what the situation is on Macs because im not a member of their cult but im pretty sure you cant get hackintosh updates from apple. In my experience, WGA is is fairly painless (unless youre using the download center and firefox) if you do have to deal with it but most of the time it doesnt require any intervention from me to work correctly

OK I dislike and disapprove of approximately 99% of what the Bush presidents have done to this country but I had to stop that video at the 6:00 mark when i realized it wasn't a parody and it lost all its humor (up until that point i was laughing. also i feel i should point out: http://www.msfn.org/board/Forum-Rules-Upda...ead-t18408.html

edit an existing operating system?
PC_LOAD_LETTER replied to mikey5194's topic in Customizing Windows
we have entire forums dedicated to each of the components you asked how to modify. the best place to start looking is the Customizing Windows forum which is where i am moving your topic to. -
i dont understand why you would delete the profile on logoff unless it was to keep the browser cache clear (which could be done with a script just as easy) why dont you look into a program like Windows SteadyState(free) or DeepFreeze (Not free but better IMO)

Whats the longest uptime you had for a windows 9x box?
PC_LOAD_LETTER replied to togermano's topic in Windows 9x/ME
yeah in truth, that Vista box needs to be rebooted (has had updates installed) and therefore wont get any new updates if available but i havent rebooted it because the only time Im using that machine Im too busy to be bothered with rebooting it. In response to the people that say they dont sleep with their PC on, I have found that when I sleep at someones house that doesnt have a PC or A/C running or when the power is out here (happens in the winter a lot more than i like) I either cant sleep or get woke up because i sense something is 'wrong' if i cant hear the faint hum of fans in the next room. -
it looks like there is a hacked up way to do it: http://stream-recorder.com/forum/installin...html?amp;t=1076 I dont think it'd be worth the effort. might jack up WMP DRM and prevent you from installing 11 in the future if you do decide to use those files from rapidshare, please viruscan before using them. i dont trust people that package OS hacks anymore.

Whats the longest uptime you had for a windows 9x box?
PC_LOAD_LETTER replied to togermano's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Nothin. I just noticed the uptime the other day and thought it was pretty cool. I dont usually get to set uptime records because were kinda 'out in the boonies' and our power seems to go out with the slightest breeze around here. Its been on a UPS that gives me 30 min or so runtime for about a year or so but it still goes down frequently. I also think 5/30 was the day i upgraded to 4Gb so that uptime would have prolly been longer. also since its running Vista so if you believe the XP worshipers impression of Vista I must be fighting off BSODs every five minutes. But thats not why i posted it here. Just joining the conversation. -
the program you are looking for is/was called 'xp visual styler 1.1' which should let you adjust the rbg of a theme. ive used it before on my xp box but now its not running for some reason and i cant find a working d/l of it

Dreadest OS+AV combination

I have to say anything with Norton on it has to be bad but id say Panda runs a close second. Ive scanned machines that both have called clean and had multiple hits on Mcafee/AVG. -
It was late last nite and i didnt even bother to look it up. thanks for pointing that out. Topic closed.
