  1. Hey Guys - I recently got an IBM laptop. Shortly after I bought a 100gb 7200 rpm hard disk because 60gb wasn't cutting it. On the bottom of my ibm/lenovo laptop there is a ms xp pro key. I want to install windows on the 100gb but I don't want to ghost or clone any of it, I want to start from scratch. I also don't want Ibm to send me cds for 45 bucks. I have a corp edition of windows xp from work, but I can't use the key on the bottom of my laptop. Is there any way to tell what kind of key it is? and also is there a way to make that key work with my corp edition? Thanks! //mark
  2. ukg1jzj - Thanks so much for that help. I used to browse these forums daily until our intranet blocked ti for some reason. Obviously I didn't know about those guides. Thanks again!
  3. Hey guys. I know how to slipstream service packs into MS products but I would like to embed the serial number into my office installation. I have seen it before in my college distributed office cds, but I would like to do it to my private version. I have a tendancy to lose such things. Thanks for any help!
  4. Nevmind all, I've figured it out. Use the startnet.cmd file in RemoteInstallPath\Setup\English\Images\WINPEIMAGE\i386\system32 to launch whatever you want, anyone ever figure out a way to turn off the popup box that asks if you want to shutdown/quit/restart etc?
  5. Hey guys, for those of you who have used WinPE and RIS together, is there a way to make it automatically start an MFC application or any other exe for that matter after it starts up? I have written some batch files to do things like deploying our custom OS and partitioning the drives, I was wondering if I can just link it to an MFC application so when we deploy this system to the end user, they just have to select a network boot, and click a button to deploy the OS Thanks
  6. explorer, did you follow this article? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...;304992&sd=tech Also Try... http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBL/tip5800/rh5805.htm I found that you need 2 images on the server....I have a regualr XP and then PE Always make sure it appears alphabetically last, and that you are using the correct flat image backing.... ex I use winpe1.2 so I need to use XPSP1 This is the info I've discovered for win2k, I don't know what the deal with win2k3 is yet?
  7. just in case anyone has the same problem, I need to add the /minint switch to the *sif file....
  8. Anyone know any good FAQs on customizing BARTPE Visually, Background Go Button etc, etc etc? THANKS
  9. sy89- I tried the fix suggested in this article...My XP Image is named XP and my bartpe is named yes.....I"m going to try using a different nic, although that shouldn't be the cause. mac
  10. Hey guys, I am trying to load bartpe through RIS. I have two images loaded on my win2k3 RIS server, the first one is a standard XP installation. The second one is based on this guide here... http://www.staff.stir.ac.uk/thomas.speirs/Bart-PE_RIS.htm I didn't do anything that involves the intel card, cause mine is a 3com. The regular XP installation works fine, but the the bartpe combo recieves an error. It goes through the inital standard 2000/XP blue screen bootup, you know, the "Inspecting Hardware Configuration" and loads a bunch of standard files under a blue screen with grey borders. The error it recieves is the following.... Stop: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Session Manager INtialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The System has been shut down. Has anyone seen this, can anyone help, thanks!!!!
  11. Hey folks, I'm new to this forum but I've seen alot of really cool things. I have a unique problem... I'm trying to load xp embedded on an embedded device that contains no cd drive, usb, or floppy. I can load an os with RIS and a regular xp disk. Can anyone suggest a way to load a Basic DOS prompt with network support, its at a work too so if Used BartPE it'd have to be modded to look more "professional", and I'd like to make it unattended..... Any suggestions/comments are extremely welcome, THANKS macgyver PS, it obviously has PXE support
