  1. It is a option according to their site lol: http://www.netgear.com/products/details/MR814.php and under Key Benefits it says Pre-Shared Key (WPA-PSK). Thats the one to use - its what I'm running on my network, although I doubt anyone around here would even know about wireless security, let alone hack a wireless network lol. Dig out the manual-CD/click the [help] button in the router config and find out how to set it up. I chose a manual one - cant remember it but doesn't matter, just change it again if needs be. I have my desktop wired - and there's always factory reset button in the router. I'm using a 3com router by the way, so cant help you with a step-by-step or anything sorry, but it should be fairly straight forward. Regards N.
  2. hope its legal Regards, N.
  3. Unfortunately, I have to side with the people on the Liteon bashing Of all writers I've had problems with, its the Liteon drives - CD/RW, Combo & DVD-RW drives - and main problem has been recognising media in mainly all of my issues with them. 3 or 4 years ago, people used to say that were good and maybe the models before that *were* good, but alas, I can't recommend them at all. Of course, if you have one and it works for you - great & I'm happy for you - just be aware that there are revisions and firmware installed with each model (no doubt hehe). And dont update it's firmware unless you really need to hehe But where other drives read disc's (overall) no problem, the ones I've seen either take absolutely AGES to read it, or it just doesn't end up recognising it. Also, one particular model of Philips caused me fun and games too - same sort of issues - one of them has died a while back and the other still works I think (not sure how long for) but it kinda put me off Philips ones (ironically). Sony drives - tho I haven't seen many of them - has given me zero problems and maximum stability and performance. I doubt they are rebranded liteone ones, but i cant say for sure - they could be custom-made by liteon for sony and sony gives the model a rigerous test before they ok it's production lol (or something like that, I dunno lol) I, myself, at home have a MSI one (not by it now so dont know the model) and although its sometimes doesn't recognise a media initially, a eject and put it back in and it usually works fine. I updated its firmware alot tho and it seemed to help it work better overall, but not having seen many of MSI's optical drives, I cant vouch for them. I'd say, you may pay a bit more, but with sony, its gonna work and work well too (like with anything sony i guess lol) There's LG & Benq (i know Benq relabel their stuff but their CD-r spindles of media work nicely and I've had a projector or two by them which has been good and worked well). Just my two cents really, but to sum up, have a look at review sites of anything you are looking to get and see whats recommended there Its a safer way to do it, and also find online places that sell the item which have custommer ratings and comments (like ebuyer) - you dont have to buy from them of course, but its worth having a look to read the comments about the product Regards, N.
  4. Welcome to msfn It doesnt sound like its working to be honest lol What watt is your PSU? Its drawing less power than it needs, this can have an adverse effect. Also, maybe your motherboard isn't detecting it properly - for whatever reason - and is causing it to overheat. Check both the manufacturer of the motherboard and dvd-ram, and if there is firmware updates i.e. bios update may be needed due to compatibility problems with newer optical drives (could be something like that lol) Let us know if that helps at all and anything u try. Regards, N.
  5. viol8r: There has been loads of questions answering your topic. Please use the search facility (even just simple browsing of the forum boards would have shown you suggestions too). Read the forum rules. Just a little reminder for you Regards N.
  6. Have a password website for what you want to achive, however, distributing music onto a web host's machine would be illegal I'd say so I'm not saying you should do this. However, here's an example of how it could work for you: www.yoursiteaddress.com/secretfoldername/ [obviously change the appropriate things above] then using a .htaccess and .htpasswd file, you could require a username and password in order to access that folder and/or its contents. For info on htaccess, have a look at the appropriate section @ http://usertools.plus.net This all depends of whether you know much web designing/programming or not, but its easy enough to do really. It may depend on the host for aspects like htaccess so lookup the info with them too. All the best, N.
  7. If you changed the Subnet Mask to 255.255.0.0 on both, then you should solve the problem (i think) They wont see each other otherwise - this is by design i believe. Give it a try and see how that goes. Cheers, N.
  8. I'm not sure why, but with my 2003 domain, I have to specify the local DNS server's ip (in this case, the DC & DNS server is the same server) in the TCP/IP settings for the computer(s) toi authenticate straight away, instead of wait up to 15min for logon to finish.... could it be this reason or something similar? just my two cents Regards, N.
  9. lol I'm surprised no one had mentioned it but the picutures are most likely real, but it just isn't Jennifer Aniston lol She looks similar i.e. a look-alike or whatever you call them, but its just most likely someone at the christening thought "i'll send these around the internet pretending its Jennifer Aniston" lol Regards, N.
  10. grrrrrr Why do these ppl do it? ....I guess its because they can And why dont these ppl get shot for it? ...oh yes, thats illegal - **** shame i think :realmad: sorry - just some mindless comment by a tired person wishing to string up people who hack and think "its cool to mess up other peoples work". Hope they can recover their stuff/restore any backup's they have. I use the Rescue CD and, one day, might have a go with multibooting etc. - when i find the time and energy to lol Regards, N.
  11. ~£300 then in the UK then? I spent that one the PS2 and this is gonna blow the PS2 away so I definately raise the £300 for the PS3 If the xbox 360 is being released by xmas this year, and the PS3 not until next year, it'll mean a bit of a "headstart" for Microsoft, but I'd imagine the sony fans will remain loyal - tho parents of kids probably will buy the new xbox because thats what their kids want hehe I doubt it will make a big difference but we shall see. Would be nice if sony sneakily announced it in time for xmas too Does anyone know if the release is worldwide or not? i.e. does the UK/EUROPE release coincide with the US / JP release? Sorry if its been mentioned somewhere in a review - I just havent had a chance to look at the reviews, only seen some of the footage clips Regards, N.
  12. No problem mate. Hope it helps Let us know how you get on Cheers, N.
  13. er....yes lol anyhow... Just to confirm it, both the ATI - Software Uninstall Utility (listed in Add/Remove Programs) & the CATALYST Uninstaller (that you can download) will remove *all* ATI software & 3rd party software bundled with the install CD (cant remember its name but I had some movie creation software that was bundled with the card and it got rid of that too) If needed, you should be able to safely uninstall the ATI Catalyst package which will only uninstall the following: - ATI Catylyst Control Center (i haven't got installed the version that doesn't use Control Center) but in both cases, it may or may not uninstall the following: - ATI Control Panel (for those not using the Control Center version) - ATI Display Driver If it doesn't uninstall them, you can uninstall them also and reboot So if you dont want to remove other ATI programs/demo's/bundled apps, then you'll have to make sure you dont choose the "CATALYST Uninstaller" or the "ATI - Software Uninstall Utility" (which is probably the same thing anyway lol) Then, you should be good to go to install the updated/new drivers or whatever you are wanting to do (allow windows to put in its own driver i think - it wont harm anything when you go to install the new drivers). Hope that makes some sorta sense (have to stop posting in the early hours of the morning lol) Regards, N.
  14. hmmmm looks like a v. v. tough one Just a thought but have you looked at the creative forums and posted there with the info that you have put in here? There may be some modders or Creative technical staff that might have more of an idea.... just a thought... Regards, N.
  15. When I was weighing up what to buy 6+ months ago, I decided on this: http://uk.europe.creative.com/products/pro...15&product=4908 (4G version) Really nice sound quality (as you'd expect) and plays a good number of formats - enough to be happy with It was cheaper than the iPod offerings and I didn't want to be "sucked in" to the Ipod generation (no flaming pls lol). Something like that is ideal in my opinion (no drivers needed in XP ) and is all you need for decent music in your ears when travelling. Has a high batt life and more. Check it out Then save up and get PSP. I won't get a PSP probably because I dont travel much but the diddy Muvo was smaller than I realised and fits in the pocket nicely. Regards, N.
  16. hold on.... I am in the process of finding out what you can do. Hang on for a day or so please Regards, N.
  17. Good question hehe I think older versions / Windows Messenger allows this, but for some reason, the option isn't there in the latest version(s). You might want to send Feedback to Microsoft asking about it [Help] > [Feedback] in the menu bar. The "love it-hate it" site http://mess.be has a forum there and tools regarding all things messenger so a look there might be worth a look too. Just watch out for the spyware in the MSN Plus install if you choose to try it. The seperate tweak may give you the option you're after too, tho I cant remember offhand. Good luck and post a solution if you find one - will be handy for others who are looking. Regards, N.
  18. although there's plenty of topics on here that you should have looked at first eyeXpose - tsk tsk hehe - I'd use UltraVNC (as mentioned above). Regards, N.
  19. also... if you can get into windows at all normally, try running: sfc /scannow from the Command Prompt. Can't remember if this works in Safe Mode but if you cant get into windows normally, you could try it. Also, if you have access to another machine (you must have or you wouldn't be posting), have a look at PEBuilder (search Google - its free and legal ) and you could use that to see if the file is missing and possibly restore it via this CD that you can create. Just another thing that you could try Regards, N.
  20. Safe Mode is always worth a try Congratulations on the success Regards, N.
  21. Small thought but does the keyboard need the drivers installed for the keyboard, or doesn't SP2 have drivers for bluetooth keyboards? (I appreciate that even if XP does have a MS bluetooth keyboard driver that you may not be able to use the keyboard's "special" shortcut keys - if it has any) I know this is obvious but have you looked at the Logitech's website for updated/latest drivers for the keyboard? Regards, N.
  22. Although I believe this is possible, it may cause more problems that it would cure (if indeed it would cure any hehe). Alot of programs use the IE engine to do things - even though it may not seem obvious. Of course, without the IE core there, they wont work and you'll end up with more problems than having it there but not using it. Search the forum for Firefox Unattended installs - check out the "Unattended" & "Application Switches" boards on the forum and also take a look at the Unattended link at the top left thats on every page. Best Regards and welcome to MSFN, N.
  23. I know this sounds ridiculous but have you tried going into safe mode? I wouldn't have thought windows would let you disable the only account that has Administrator Access :S but then again... Worst case scenario - you'd have to use a 3rd party program to reset permissions/account - I *think* something like ERD Commander would do the trick or perhaps something like PEBuilder (search google for the latter - its free but i dont have the link) Regards, N.
  24. @Envoi: As mentioned, try installing a different OS - 2k, ME, or 98SE - and see if you can get all the way through that install. As Inforit (welcome to msfn Inforit ) is having the same trouble with the same motherboard, perhaps its a faulty batch of motherboards maybe :S Have you tried contacting the manufacturer about the situation? (I know this probably won't be the easiest thing to do - I tried with Gigabtye - 8 motherboards getting very hot lol and no response. I guess I was unlucky. Duron 1.2 & amd approved HSF - was/is very odd indeed) You have connected the ATX12V1 connector right? (just looking at the layout - downloaded the manual - but wish I'd looked at it right at the begining) If that isn't connected, the CPU won't get the power it needs and will cause the system to freeze btw - I've heard of the machine powering on and looking fine without this connected but then of course, not working properly lol The connector is by the uGuru chip - top-center on the board. Regards (and I'll keep thinking), Nath.
  25. Whoops.... I did forget to mention that lol You'll need to put the old cpu in again tho so that it comes on and then you should be able to update/flash the bios (make sure you get the right update tho from the manufacturers website) and then you should be able to use the new cpu All the best - hope it goes well Nath
