Right right cyprod, the freeware version doesn't automatically download the hotfixes, service packs, etc. - you have to dowload these manually and place them in the correct folders where you have installed xpcreate. Although not up-to-date, the http://xpcreate.com website has a tested "fail-safe" list that you should use if you are new to this. Only the comercial version has the auto-download of ms hotfixes, etc. Regards, N.

The person needs - Training and experience.... Its like asking a sales rep of computer hardware to suddenly be able to fix & build pc's - a completely different job. But surely they cant just change his/her job like that? The person is now doing something different to their contract surely. I'd get the union down for this one lol Maybe my school will expect me to do tasks of an electrician now because computers have electrical components. Sorry if this isn't helpful but I dont understand how a company/org/gov can do this sort of stuff, and not realise what they ask of people. Some practical things would be: - Getting his hands dirty - Get a old pc and get used to whats inside it and so on - take it apart, put it back together, learn to install OS's, etc. In my opinion, the only way to learn is to get to know PCs, how they work, the way OS's work and basically just get used to using the pc in everyway he/she possibly can. - A+ course is (apparently) very good, but will that help the guy know instantly know what to do when a error comes up in windows or why you are getting a blue screen when a certain 3rd party program loads or why XP refuses to install on a PC with no real indication as to why it just doesn't complete its install, etc. Its alot for someone to take in that hasn't done any troubleshooting at all. - The company *WILL* have to send him/her on training courses in this matter - if they want stuff to be fixed quickly. I believe there will likely be 3rd-party training on troubleshooting skills with PC's, in addition to MS courses. I'm sure there is more practical solutions than this i.e. certain websites, but I do think that the company is not following protocol. Then again, it may only be illegal to completely change someone's job in the UK and expecting them to just "get on with it" but I could be wrong hehe Regards and let us know how it goes. Nath

Few questions to ask: - What server OS is it? - Have you been using the internet on it? If so, do you have some AV/Anti-Spyware stuff installed? - Is it protected by a firewall? If so, how? - How long have you had the system running for? - Have you looked at the Dell support site and looked up the issue? Updated drivers, etc? Just a few things to try along with rjz's suggestion of using Dell's diag tools/cd. Regards and let us know how you get on. Nath

Good point there. I hope MS will consider those Modders/PC enthusiasts/etc that change their hardware often for Longhorn (or future XP SP maybe). Regards, N.

I'm sure you have been mis-informed. I don't believe that he would do anything of the sort and it is only a way for him to track what copy of xpcreate people has, and how many people have it, in the same way that other people/companies require you to register in order to aquire the free software - instead of just a simple download link. I'm sure he has valid reason behind not posting anything regarding the matter or replying to the emails sent. I know there are alot of annoying people here regarding this matter, but we dont know the whole situation so... @Alanoll - Good work as always Good to see a admin helping "cool the fire" here in this part of the forum @tashammer: Quite right and Welcome to MSFN Regards all, Nath.

Can you post a list of them i.e. the ones that work after the list on http://xpcreate.com ? Links to download them would be handy too Cheers, N.

Quicktime 6: I have searched and searched... but..
tarquel replied to Sahil's topic in Application Installs
as stated, my posted ini is for 6.5.2 but it *may* work for version 7 beta... Would be useful to know but this is offtopic so maybe create a new topic for this - if one does not exist. Regards N. -
Now theres a new one lol There's only Server 2003 Std, Ent, Web, Datacenter Editions so really you mean stripping it and modding it until it sort of resembles XP Pro lol Regards, N.

Also, are you talking about a home network here or not? i.e. a couple of pc's linked to a adsl router (just a example). If its a corp network and you use a server OS i.e. Server 200x, then use GP (Group Policy) to secure your network - you can disable that icon through GP i believe - hell, the whole desktop if you want. But this sort of thing has been covered before in that case so i wont go into detail. Follow enuffsaid's advice there if you are on about home pc's and just use passworded logon's and shares, etc. Regards, N.

Adobe Reader 7 wtihout Ads, Yahoo-Toolbar, PrintMe
tarquel replied to jeeva's topic in Application Installs
Indeed. They are simply reg merge at the end - part of which is needed for the 7.0.1 intregation. The other tweaks simply turn off access to the others, but of course, they are still installed I guess but at least this way, the option of turning the features back on again is at your disposal It's all good :) Regards, N. -
You might want to try soulin's little script: @echo off Echo . Libraries registration regsvr32 /s msxml3.dll regsvr32 /s wups.dll regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll Echo . Stopping services net stop wuauserv echo . Deleting DataStore cd /d %windir%\SoftwareDistribution rd /s DataStore Echo . Starting services net start wuauserv Echo . Restarting computer shutdown -r -f -t 01 http://martinzugec.blogdrive.com/archive/c...-2005_o-10.html Scroll down to til you get to the Windows Update problems... subheading - aimed at SP2 I think, but will probably work with pre-SP2. Worth a try I guess. Regards, N.

- If you have a server running on your network, as a alternative, you could try: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en Or the new WSUS: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversyst...loads/WSUS.mspx (Register on the right-hand side and take it from there) - No server then you could download the hotfixes and create a script to install each one silently without restarting. Bit fiddly but its how I do win98 hotfixes @ work and it works well. Regards, N.

Are you refering to ver 7 beta or 6.5.2? If the latter, my ver doesn't put it in the system tray but does create desktop icon. Visit my site if u want it ready-made... if not, here's my .ini: [QTSETUP] license_option=0 no_dialogs=true registration_dialog=false supress_speed_dialog=true install_qttask=false install_qtjava=false install_qd3d=false show_sample=false show_readme=false show_programfolder=false install_qtinfo=true [QTPrefs] ConnectionSpeed=modem CSMultipleStreams=0 Enjoy, N. -

little bump to show that "my repackaged apps site" info is now in my sig. [PM/post with any probs with any of the packages - all feedback is welcome] Regards N.

Adobe Reader 7 wtihout Ads, Yahoo-Toolbar, PrintMe
tarquel replied to jeeva's topic in Application Installs
Nice stuff, but i believe its been covered previously in the forum - maybe thru a different method. Reg tweaks for example after the install I have a ready-made install of it with the 7.0.1 update intregated and reg tweaks to cut out the ads, etc. - my sig has link to my site where u can get it anti-leech sorry Visit the topic here for more info on the build - main bulk of the build is using this info but with a different wrapper on it. Sorry to butt-in here Regards, N. -
updating your audio drivers with the latest doesn't work then? Also, if the game has the option to, lowing the audio setting, etc. But aye, a patch will probably appear soon enough report it to rockstar if updating the drivers dont help. Regards, N.

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.0.0.359
tarquel replied to contender's topic in Application Installs
Sorry if this sorta off-topic but thought it the best place to mention it... (tho if any admin's want to use it as news, etc. and delete this post, they can of course) ...but if anyone with a Gold (dont know if Silver includes SA) or above maintainance in Europe is wondering why they haven't had their v10 upgrade pack (as per their maintainance agreement), the packs are due to be shipped out to everyone this month or next month. Regards, N. -
It is a unedited OEM/Retail XP Home CD right? What SP is it (on the CD)? and what SP are you slipstreaming into the build? Also, if you arent already, make sure you aren't modifying the build with nlite or anything as you may remove something that is needed (long shot there lol ) Regards and I'm sure this is nothing new but you never know N.

7zip Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 7.0.3 25MB
tarquel replied to Nilfred's topic in Application Installs
It shouldn't be asking you for anything if you have followed the methods in this topic I'd suggest browsing to ***this*** point and get the attached file to use as the batch file. And also re-read the whole topic too. Let us know if u still have trouble. Regards, N. -
Glad it worked for you - I only made it up quickly so may have left mistakes in it, but glad it was ok ... meant whatever the next path and file name you wanted to put down was lol Regards, Nath
