  1. lol That was one of the things I was driving at hehe The only thing that "could" go is a Parallel port .... ahhh its too debate-able this lol Keep them all like Mekrel says Its easier for everyone then lol Regards N.
  2. Alot of people didn't like XP when it came out (and still dont like it). I think the same will follow suit, but like most have said: - if it does more - is more stable (or is that "user-tollerant" ) - has better features - is smoother and faster then why (money permitting) not go for it? Regards, N. PS They're bound to have a few "problems" with bits of it at first lol but so did XP and there ends the lesson.. Regards, The Rev N.
  3. Sorry - just had to add my two cents here (having seen it happen in the past lol) Cheers, N.
  4. yep they certainly know the best way to annoy a pirate (oo ar lol) Its even funnier looking at the EA's KB on the subject hehe http://eatech.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eatech....li=&p_topview=1 I cant work out whether they just mean added mods interfering or not (my money is on a subtle 'both' I think lol) Regards, N.
  5. Add it to your wish list lol I have (just for fun lol) Regards N
  6. no problem, and i didn't mean any offense by my post - sorry bout that. Take care, N
  7. I'd love to, only I dont know anything about WMP plugin's. You should have named the topic more appropriately i.e. WMP 9 & XP plugins or something better than that lol Regards and good luck, N
  8. - Better & easier management - using group policy I won't go into it right now but check out the MS server section of MS's website and read up - there's bound to be a domain vs workgroup article somewhere there lol There's more I'm sure but its a big one that I wouldn't have any other way. Regards, N.
  9. At least its protected against spyware now Regards, N. PS Does Microsoft Antispyware work on Win 2000? I forgot about that when I posted previously lol
  10. Good work. I'll have to try it later Regards, N.
  11. Ok... first off make sure you are using a "proper" original, unmodified Windows XP CD. Are you sure you are using the correct settings in the BIOS & with the physical cables? Quote from the product on the MSI site: It would be better to use a SATA hard drive, but such is life lol ummmm........ Try using the HD on the primary/first IDE socket (they're green as I remember) and have the CD-ROM on the normal IDE socket, as the CD-ROM drive shouldn't be on the IDE RAID controllers at all (which seems to be the case from what I got from your post). As odd as this may seem, you should find it will work better. Let us know either way if it works or doesn't. Regards, N.
  12. yep yep - get your info backed up somewhere - dvd or seperate HD, etc - run all the burn-in tests and low-level format etc - create the new partition stucture - some manufactures have tools you can do this with i.e. Maxtor Max Blast (think its called) and WD has one too - with that you can format it too as well, just skip the copying system files part of it. - boot the xp cd media blah blah - restore your docs and stuff from the backup - see how ya get on Get yourself protected against viruses from the offset & antispyware stuff too - then connect up to the net and get those updates If it starts happening pretty much straight away then you may want to get a new HD Also, you could keep the old one - might be useful for some storage of stuff - not important stuff tho, i.e. just incase it finally dies. Good luck. N.
  13. You're at the right place - I find it funny you haven't noticed stuff on this site nad other forum sections. Try looking at the top of the page and you'll see Unattended CD / DVD Guide - thats what you'll be needing. There are other projects on the site too that give you other options too: Look for XPCREATE on this forum. Regards, N.
  14. hehe the Lord and Master I think he's not on about all motherboard's - unless i misread what he means. All four things are useful for businesses naturally - floppy disks are still used by alot of businesses and schools - maybe not by the end users, but admins of the system (like me) have to use them still [even tho i dont really want to - costs stop me from using better things lol] But motherboards geared to gamers is different. lol its all hyperthetical anyhow Regards, N.
  15. lol one word.... fear Well...maybe not fear lol but because its different to what people were used to. I heard so many people slate XP when it first came out - however, I never had any problem with it. I thought it was great compared 98SE (ME don't even come into it lol). I dont think I need to go on anymore however, you all should get what I'm going on about lol Regards, N.
  16. Hi everyone I thought it might be handy to have a thread on this for those large games that take ages to install and that are on more than one CD/DVD etc., plus take ages to update too etc. Also, this is refering mainly to the installed game, not just adding all the CDs/installation media together (as you still have to install it lol) I could update this first post and maintain a list at the begining so people don't have to search through a load of posts, etc. ** Please either psot to add to the request list or PM me and I'll add it to the list ** Current Requests: - Final Fantasy XI - Neverwinter Nights (with SOU & HoTU expansion packs) - Baldurs Gate (and Tales of the Sword Coast exp pack - 5 CD ver) ... Partial Solutions: ... Current Solutions: - STEAM games by Valve Software ... I hope my thread makes sense and it could be handy for those who wipe and install windows often, but hate the hassle of installing large games over and over lol And just to point it out, I'm not intending this to be at all warez related - only to help everyone in the time-consuming games re-installs Regards, Nath.
  17. Is AV or some virus/spyware a possible issue going on here? The stuff can cause all sorts of trouble. Have you got Windows fully updated too? Is your installation of windows been installed from a modified XP CD? er... thats all i can think of so far.. Welcome to MSFN by the way. Regards, N.
  18. lol I highly doubt you'll be disappointed Enjoy (I'm a FF XI plyr myself) N.
  19. I had a trial of it - well, a invitation for one of the beta weekends before it was released and I thoroughly enjoyed it http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=search&...ars&page=search £17.99 and no monthly charges - you can't go wrong can you? It was end of march I think I tried it - so the details are hazy. It reminds me of a NWN-style to it with a nice online element on top and lush graphics. You didn't mention what games you like/dislike so its hard to say what game a person will like without knowing any games you like. As I said, I'd say go for it as there's no online charge, you cant go wrong really lol Regards, N.
  20. Cant say anything for it myself but you should check out some hardware review sites to get a good feel for it. Try Googling for it with +review in the search field and see how you get on. Regards, N.
  21. You do mean with the golden (or silver) things between the case and mobo? lol are these called spacers? I have no idea lol (no flames pls lol as I thought spacers are the plastic things you can get for places where theres no screws used) Regards, N.
  22. Parallel Port - Agreed! Who hasn't got a USB/LAN/WiFi printer by now lol Onboard Video - Get rid of it or make it very easy to switch off (tho most are) Onboard Audio - If it would help free resource on the mobo for other things, get rid - most will buy a better audio card [see sig] Floppy Drive Controller - when last did you use this? - depends what you do. I dont use it often but it is handy at times (if you arent just a gamer lol) Regards, N.
  23. yep - get a w.card or router option! ICS stinks lol Regards, N.
  24. lol @ price of ram Unless you have a load of cash to throw at making a machine, I wudn't buy memory that expensive - but i hear it is good memory and 2-2-2-5 is great lol And it all depends on what you want from your machine too - I personally cudn't justify the cost of that (not unless they start paying me more at work lol) DONT get crappy unbranded memory that costs next to nothing by the way lol but there is cheaper quality memory out there I'm sure. Regards, N.
  25. lol I did forget that .exe wudn't work. I'd been flat out on msfn lol made the brain a little tired lol But plenty of suggestions here now on getting that to run. Let us know what worked/works so others can know Regards, N.
