  1. That's indeed great news!
  2. Well, if we could identify it, we could lower its priority ourselves... I'll sure give it a shot once I get home... I have 4 machines still to update, anyway. But bear in mind lowering the priority will make it even slower.
  3. Same here (under 1 min). But that's old news. Everytime MS "fixes" it but at the next "Patch Friday" the way too long delay is back again... In case MS knows how to fix it (I doubt it by now), they clearly don't want to fix it (and a POS machine can wait for more than 1h before getting updates automatically, of course, so that's no big deal). Oh, well...
  4. It took 90min to find the updates for my alternate XP installation on the same i7 3770k... this time I hadn't previously installed the latest ie8 update... So, it really seems to be of little influence, if any, this time around.
  5. Cry rivers?
  6. Nobody reads my posts... snif! BTW, non-MS simple Silverlight Tester.
  7. It took 75min for WU to finish finding updates in my main machine. All along this time it had 13% CPU usage, but with two cores maxed up, of the 8 apparent cores of my i7 3770k (4 w hyperthreading). And I did install manually the ie8 updateas suggested by @heinoganda... So it ought to take a long time on a less powerful machine.
  8. Thanks! BTW, there's also new Flash and Shockwave...
  9. KB4012204-IE8 Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 8 KB3216916 Security Update for Windows XP (msxml3.dll v.8.100.1061.0) KB4011981 Security Update for Windows XP (ntkrpamp.exe et al. v.5.1.2600.7197) KB4012497 Security Update for Windows XP (win32k.sys v.5.1.2600.7196) KB4012583 Security Update for Windows XP (gdi32.dll v.5.1.2600.7209 and usp10.dll v.1.420.2600.7209) KB4012584 Security Update for Windows XP (icm32.dll v.5.1.2600.7197) KB4012598 Security Update for Windows XP (srv.sys and xpsp4res.dll v.5.1.2600.7208 both) KB4012355 Mar 2017 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 4 on WES09 and POSReady 2009 KB4013867 Microsoft Silverlight v.5.1.50905.0 KB3127945 Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites KB3178682 Security Update for Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 3 KB3178677 Security Update for Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 3 No kidding... that's some updates, after so long!
  10. Here's some old news, updated somewhat (or, at least MS says so...).
  11. If it's already downloaded, there's no need to do that. I think @Bersaglio actually meant "download", so his comment should read like this:
  12. I fear for the present. When I do. I'll deal with the future when it becomes present. Life's too short.
  13. Of course.
  14. This is what I'm getting with @heinoganda's Cert_Updater.exe, both yesterday and today...
  15. Both System and TrustedInstaller identify simply as "System" as you can see if you try the whoami command. I think MS reckoning about it was that if one does not know whether (s)he is the TrustedInstaller or not, that one does not deserve to know it.
  16. For those wondering: "Syvet" is not an existing member, but Dibya is trying to refer to @Svyatpro, who's a member all right. In my book, to consistently misspell people's names, usernames or handles amounts to deliberate disrespect, but IMO Dibya means no disrespect at all, he's just being as ultra-careless with his writing as he normally is.
  17. Because MS thought you'd be safer that way (or so they say). Beyond impersonating the TrustedInstaller? I don't know. Sorry.
  18. psexec -i -s -d regedit.exe will give you System status (akin to Colonel), while Joakim's method gives you TrustedInstaller status (akin to Field Marshall)... 'nuff said! BTW, there also is PAExec, which is free and freely redistributable...
  19. I confirm Silverlight v. 5.1.50901.0 actually is working on 52.0 esr! And here is a handy Silverlight test page, for the sake of completeness. And I confirm 52.0 esr removes two important booleans from about:config, so I had to add them back again, as per @mixit's report, quoted below: However, just after updating, I was sent to a FF page (<link>) which told of the imminent FF EoS for XP and Vista, but contained an interesting remark, which I quote here below (red highlight is mine) : That seems to be potential good news, IMO.
  20. It makes no sense: why would an unverified extension non-leaking under 51.1.0 become leaking under 52.0 esr?
  21. Which probably means 52.8.0, on March 2018, or even maybe a little longer, if they feel like it.
  22. All I said is they exist in April 2004 MSDN Library. I never said they're absent in all previous versions of it. Although I do believe those for 95 and 98 were not included anymore from 2005 onwards...
  23. No reason to install, just extract what you need with 7-zip to a folder, then read the files with any browser.
  24. No pseudo-science at all. Of course it does. Entropy reflects the number of degrees of liberty presented by a system. A solved puzzle has just one, etc. Your understanding of the concept of entropy seems to be too narrow. You should study more. No offense meant.
