I use Office 2000 on 3 machines and Office 97 on two more. All on XP and with the Compatibility Pack. Nothing added to Office after 2000 is really relevant IMO.
-
They should have more consideration for one of their biggest markets, though. As for keeping on AVG 2011, I'll do it until I find it untenable, because I know how to handle it already. Then I may move over to Malwarebytes or some other option. Last time I got a virus in one of the machines I care for it was the Jerusalem virus, back in 1989. No viruses and no reinstalls at all, since then. BTW, I know nothing about how games update. I like playing real cardboard playing cards, but find computer games no fun.

Well, maybe it should be "phagocytized", but I didn't have a dictionary at hand nor thought about looking at one, I just back-translated from Portuguese. Well, in case the new version breaks about 33% of internet banking interfaces, would you consider it malware? Consider, moreover, that AVG is second only to MSE in popularity, in Brazil.

No Office 2007 Compatibility Pack updates, but flash has been duly updated, as per @heinoganda's post in the other thread.

'Nuff said!

Yes!
-
Give us VEN/DEV numbers, please.
-
Why is that?
-
Yes, you're right, they've been phagocytated phagocytized by Avast, not by Avira. Not that it really matters because whatever remains of them is speeding down the end of Avast's digestive tube right now... I have paid-for AVG 2011 (five licences some good to June others to July 2017). I've used my back-ups, where needed, so I'm back with AVG 2011. They're still providing updated virus definitions daily, despite having suddenly given EoS notice on all older versions of AVG, which AVG traditionally made a point of keeping supported. But that's understandable. Their new owner just wants to close down shop and fire everybody. One less competitor. Life's like that. However, none of that matters. I've paid to use it up to the middle of 2017, and I want to do it, even if they eventually stop providing virus definitions updates before that, but I want to keep running AVG 2011, not the latter versions, and I'm within my rights: that's what I bought. Have you perchance noticed that crappy nag notice has not any "No, thank you!" button (nor any other clear way of saying "No")? That's why I say they've gone the malware way, just like Microsoft. Up to now, by clicking on the upper right "X" it does go away, but MS has already taught us all that's not always necessarily so. You're being misleading by pretending such a crappy nag is normal and OK, when you should know better, which I know you do.

That's thanks to the BIOS USB Legacy Support but, anyway, it's a bonus. OTOH,the mouse ought to work right on the thunderbolt, regardless of being connected through a hub and an adapter. But, in any case, as soon as you test it, let us know. Your experience sure may be turned into a Mini-How-To, after you get all issues sorted out.
-
Well, the thunderbolt has plenty of juice (meaning a high current upper limit) so if you give it a type-c to type-a adapter, and connnect a hub to it you should have enough ports for everything, including the mouse and any storage media you may want to connect. But you didn't answer my other question (although it's out o mere curiosity, by now): the machine does actually recognize the keyboard in one of the intel usb ports and it does work OK, right? So you can use one of the intel ports thanks to the BIOS USB Legacy Support, even without the intel derivers for Vista. Is that correct?
-
OK. But what router (== maker and model) ?
-
I take that to mean: Sunrise Point HM-170... if so it controlls up to 8 USB 3.0 ports at the maximum. That could mean maybe all the lateral USB ports may not work at all, as I already suspected... Then again, you did say at least the kbd does actually work, wasn't it? Actually you ought to get the ASMedia USB 3.0+3.1 Drivers & Software Set v1.16.41.3 package. Later drivers don't support Vista animore.
-
With the same money you'd have bought a great desktop and obviated all this trouble. Well... never mind. Yes, you can find out which ports are connected to the ASMedia controller, put hubs on them to multiply them and forget the other ports. It's an ugly hack, but should work. Yet I suspect only the rear (Type C) USB 3.1 Port may be controlled by the ASMedia chip, I'm sorry to say. Get the latest complete ASMedia driver at Fernando's Forum and let's see. Moreover, if you have time for it, do run the latest CPU-Z on the laptop so that we know what CPU, Southbridge and BIOS version does it have.
-
True. That's why I select the hardware I buy based on my decision to keep running XP, and not the other way around. Long live XP!
-
The denial of reality does not affect it (viz. reality)...
-
Therefore, you've hit a wall. There's no way to get intel USB working decently with vista (or previous NT-OSes) on you machine, unless you decide to mod the BIOS or use some other extreme measure. My take: forgo vista and be happy! \m/

Change Legacy USB Support to AUTO and XHCI Hand-Off to ENABLED.
-
BTW, a general USB*.INF should exist, and reference ClassGuid = {36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000}. Without that, nothing happens.

Dibya, with all due respect, people don't read minds... please do supply the missing parts of your statement. If you wanna help, do it right... what's the hurry?

Can you post a list of the options in the advanced tab of your machine's BIOS? Is it the latest available bios version?
