  1. FileMon (File Monitor) You simply removed the run entry with HijackThis, the file still exists.
  2. The folder may be hidden. You can also access it through the command prompt or using FileASSASSIN (you can paste the path into it.) It's possible the parent program may already have been deleted with the scans prior to your log submission. Here's the link to FileMon.
  3. Found another with this issue here
  4. The problem with that website is that it is full of misinformation and false positives. Almost every tech site on the Internet will advise users not to use or rely on that website.
  5. This is the source of your problem. You can navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\christopher\Local Settings\Application Data\ and locate hgkudpg.dll. Attempt to delete the file manually. If you can not, use Unlocker to delete the file. I also split your topic to help avoid some confusion since this is a new HijackThis log for a separate problem.
  6. annoying all them popups, 10 a day on xp, wife wanted to choke me said I better get her CA back so i grabbed her a free trial There's no popups. There are tray notifications when you get updates, but you can set those to silent and never see them.
  7. Actually VPC works quite well for networking if you configure it properly.
  8. You'll want to go under the Tools section and towards the bottom run the SFC scan.
  9. Dial-a-fix automates that process.
  10. Are you using a nLited install or a default Windows install?
  11. Again, try Dial-a-fix.
  12. You may have a scratched/damaged CD or even a defective CD/DVD drive.
  13. I've always heard you can use Rain-X to fix your cds/dvds.
  14. Do not disable System Restore, ever. When booting it makes backups of the registry and more, plus provides fail-safes should something go wrong. The safest method is to flush System Restore by right clicking your hard drive, going to Properties, Disk Cleanup. Under the More Options tab there is a Clean up... option for System Restore. In fact, after you clean and remove malware and are certain the system is clean and in 100% working order, you can create a new working restore point and flush the ones prior to your new, clean point. Disabling System Restore just isn't safe, though the above method is.
  15. More than likely, you had something broken on your computer before Windows Updates. Have you tried running Dial-a-fix and then attempting to reinstall the updates?
  16. Is your hard drive set to FAT32 or NTFS? Recovery partitions should be left alone. But you may need to convert your drive with Windows on it to NTFS. Who is the manufacturer of your computer?
  17. Try disabling your firewall and AV. You can also use the Network Diagnostics utility to repair issues found.
  18. Yeah, good excuse to get new stuff
  19. You can't go wrong with System Managed.
  20. The most popular Linksys is the WRT54GL as you can load many different kinds of open source firmwares onto it. A lot of people like the DD-WRT firmware, and I prefer it honestly. You do not want to get a N based router. Avoid it until it becomes an official standard. Once it becomes a standard, then you can definitely get it. If you were to get a N based router, you're taking a gamble as they are constantly making changes to the series as they try to reach the standard. Just remember, what's out there now is already at least a month old or more. Being in the PRE or DRAFT stages, you are not working with a finalized product. So even if you do get a Pre/Draft N product, by the time they finalize the N series and make it a standard, many things will have changed and may not work with the hardware you got as Pre/Draft N.
  21. Try doing a repair install, or even reinstalling.

  24. I concur Unfortunately AVG products are really lacking. They purchased ewido and have since started to ruin that once wonderful product.
