  1. No, only delete this one entry: R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file) The others are protected and that is why they show up as file missing.
  2. Agreed, I use and prefer it now over many; including UltraEdit32.
  3. I will check later tonight into source code and set save pm by defult. Just came home from work. There is a mod to allow this to be a user choice setting to help save server resources. It's the FSY22 PM Preferences v1.0 mod.
  4. Start > Run > cmd cd %Windir%/System32 del tpgtrypr.dll If this file refuses to delete, use HijackThis to delete the file at next boot or use Unlocker.
  5. There is nothing apparent that is malicious in your log. Have you run anything else besides Kaspersky and Ad-Aware?
  6. This is why I love Dial-a-fix, it checks for restrictive policies and may even find issues relating to that.
  7. PerfectDisk's services can be set to manual, unless you want to allow it's scheduled defrags to run, then you leave them alone.
  8. Unfortunately, I do not. Sorry.
  9. Dial-a-fix has a method to reinstall System Restore. It might work.
  10. Glad to hear it helped and everything is working.
  11. Issue: Some Personal Profile tabs not functioning/loading properly. Recreation: Click your username and browse your profile. Click Comments, Friends or Settings tabs and the content will not load. Issue: People formerly on your allow list are now under the block list. PM Block list upgrade error. Solution: Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1 ID:2006120418 Fixed
  12. Your key should be on your pc somewhere, usually the side or back.
  13. You can hit the green checkmark and click go to repair the common items. For the firewall, you'll need to click the Tools button (hammer) and select it from the list.
  14. Yes, it surely is! But the answer, as you can see from others' answers, is not that simple. Everyone has their own idea of what a registry cleaner should be. It's obvious that some like LLXX don't like them at all. But that's OK too. (Really) A registry is like a hard drive....it collects crapola that will eventually cause severe BLOAT, slowdowns and maybe even a CRASH. A registry has to load into RAM on boot up. Keeping it clean of redundant and erroneous entries and compressed, (like defragging a HD) takes up less RAM and makes it more useful and efficient. I really hate buying maintenance software for my computer. So, freeware or maybe even Shareware is the way I like to go. What I get and use, I share with my many Computer Customers. Untrue. Registry Junk: A Windows Fact of Life Noteworthy quotes "A few hundred kilobytes of unused keys and values causes no noticeable performance impact on system operation. Even if the registry was massively bloated there would be little impact on the performance of anything other than exhaustive searches." -- Mark Russinovich "Registry Cleaners can fix problems associated with traces of applications left behind due to incomplete uninstalls. So it seems that Registry junk is a Windows fact of life and that Registry cleaners will continue to have a place in the anal-sysadmin's tool chest, at least until we're all running .NET applications that store their per-user settings in XML files - and then of course we'll need XML cleaners." -- Mark Russinovich Ah, the infamous RegClean by Microsoft. Didn't you look into why they stopped distributing it? Here, I'll educate you as to why they did remove it. You see, the RegClean utility is no longer supported by Microsoft and has been removed from all Microsoft download sites. This was done for legitimate compatibility reasons with certain applications and Operating Systems. The RegClean utility was originally supplied with Microsoft Visual Basic version 4.0 for Windows. The last version of RegClean was 4.1a (build 7364.1) released on March 13, 1998 (RegClean.exe is dated December 30, 1997). During this time the latest Operating Systems were Windows 95 OSR2.1 and Windows NT 4.0. Windows 98 was not released until June 25, 1998. Compatibility with any Operating System besides Windows 95 and NT 4.0 was never substantiated, especially Windows XP. It is very dangerous to run a Registry Cleaner that was never certified to run on your Operating System since removing the wrong Registry Keys can break Applications and the Operating System. RegClean breaks functionality in the following Applications: Microsoft Office XP (Setup) Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003 Microsoft Office Access 2003 Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 Microsoft Office Word 2003 Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003 Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003 Microsoft Office Excel 2003 Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 Microsoft Office 2000 Premium Edition Microsoft Office 2000 Professional Edition Microsoft Office 2000 Standard Edition Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business Edition Microsoft Office 2000 Developer Edition Microsoft Access 2002 Standard Edition Microsoft Excel 2000 Standard Edition Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Standard Edition Microsoft Outlook 2000 Standard Edition Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 Standard Edition Microsoft Word 2000 Standard Edition This occurs for any Microsoft Windows Installer product on which the program's installation state is set to Installed on First Use. Just to back it up, here's the source. In short, registry cleaners just aren't needed; they're more trouble than they're worth. If you MUST use something like NTREGOPT, avoid it and get RegCompact.NET, which does everything NTREGOPT does, but makes proper backups too. Unfortunately this is not true either. The SymNRT (now called Norton Removal Tool) handles the cleanup and removal of all Norton items, registry, files, folders, etc.
  15. Set it to "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer", Apply > OK
  16. Right click My Computer > Advanced > Performance > Settings What is the selected option in the Visual Effects tab?
  17. Acronis has TrueImage version 7 for free.
  18. You can use Dial-a-fix to reinstall/repair the firewall.
  19. Your "Norton Killer package" is simply a collection of the three files that are now outdated and have been for several months. Those were SYMMSICLEANUP.reg (Symantec Microsoft Installer Cleanup.reg) and MSIFIX.bat (Microsoft Installer Fix). These used to be found on SymNRT's page, but are no longer there as they are outdated and SymNRT handles everything properly.
  20. Unfortunately that is incorrect. There is now only one application (the current SymNRT.exe) that handles removing Norton and Symantec products. You no longer need the other two files that they published at one time.
  21. I've had several WD's just die on me or have bad sectors out of the box. Never had a single issue with any Seagate HDD's ever.
  22. More than likely it's broken due to Norton. It was extremely common to see at my place of work. Just run SymNRT and you'll be surprised how many issues you have with your computer get resolved.
  23. It's not spam, actually. Try it out, the software works nicely. It's a lot like DeepFreeze.
  24. You don't need nLite as it may break many things and you could be left without a working CD/DVD to reinstall your OS. Try Creating an Unattended Windows XP/2003 CD. This link is offered all over MSFN and the guide is excellent to use. From beginners to experts; you can do everything you need with this.
  25. "How can I properly defragment the needed files?" Simple. The following instructions will help you download the necessary freeware tools to clean up your system and optimize it. Download Power Defragmenter GUI and save it where you can find it easily (Such as the Desktop). Unzip PowerDefragmenterGUI.zip. Unable to decompress the zip file? You can use 7-Zip to decompress files with ease. Download Sysinternals' Contig to the same location you saved Power Defragmenter GUI. Unzip Contig.zip. Browse into the Contig directory and copy the Contig.exe file into the Power Defragmenter GUI folder. The reason? Power Defragmenter GUI is designed to work extremely well with Sysinternals' Contig. From the Power Defragmenter GUI directory, double click the Power Defragmenter GUI.exe file. Click Next, then select PowerMode Disk Defragmentation and click next. The Contig window will open as your hard drive is defragmented. Once Contig completes, the Windows Disk Defragmenter will open in the command line window and defrag your hard drive as well, putting things in the order it sees best fit for your computer. When everything is complete, Power Defragmenter GUI will tell you that it has completed all of its work. You can click Quit/Finish to exit the program. NOTE: This process can take anywhere from minutes to hours! It is best to let the defragmentation process complete for optimal performance. If need be, let this run overnight. The process is all automated and will help your system greatly. Should any questions arise, please contact me. Kind regards, Tarun
