  1. I got this from another site and it appears to be for Windows 2003, don't know if it will work in 2008, use at your own risk. To disable shutdown tracker: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability] "TimeStampInterval"=dword:00000000 "ShutdownReasonUI"=dword:00000000 "ShutdownDoStateSnapshot"=dword:00000002 To enable shutdown tracker: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability] "TimeStampInterval"=dword:00000000 "ShutdownReasonUI"=dword:00000001 "ShutdownDoStateSnapshot"=dword:00000002
  2. 1. Yes, you can add your key so the installation will automate it. 2. No, nLite will not edit an ISO, but you can use PowerISO/UltraISO to edit the ISO. This is why you make all the last minute changes to the source files before you click on the "Create ISO" button in nLite.
  3. Actually, it won't include all hotfixes. MS had to cut off at some point with what was going to be included in SP3 for stability and compatibility testing. So, if you slipstream SP3 (by the time it goes final) into a clean source of XP and run Windows Update, the latest updates will still need to be installed. Mind you, there will only be a few, but it won't be 100% updated simply having SP3.

    nLite hangs up

Temporarily disable your anti-virus software and try again.
  5. I believe you are misunderstanding what those options mean: 1) Direct burn - burns directly to a blank CD (I rarely use this option) 2) Make ISO - creates and saves the ISO to the hard drive I choose "Make ISO" 99% of the time since I then test in VMWare before burning it to CD. I only burn it to CD *usually in Nero* once I know the ISO works as expected in VMWare. Hope this answers your question.
  6. It depends on what sort of addon it is and how it's integrated. I get the AIO from RyanVM but I end up manually (not use nLite) inserting it into svcpack.inf. -- open command-line to i386 folder -- "expand svcpack.in_ svcpack.inf" -- "svcpack.inf" (it should open in Notepad) -- add the file name under the [setupHotfixesToRun] section -- copy file to the SVCPACK folder in i386 -- "makecab svcpack.inf" -- "del svcpack.inf"
  7. boooggy, I have your page bookmarked and it's a page I look at on a frequent basis. It would be really nice if you could link to a changelog on your page *maybe it's there and I'm blind* in addition to here on the forum. It would save me some digging around for that information. I like to know what's changed in between versions. Thanks and keep up the good work.
  8. Keep looking, it's under the Unattended settings.
  9. 1. copy entire XP CD to temp folder on hard drive. (we'll call it c:\XPCD) 2. Start, Run, type in "cmd", hit Enter. 3. Browse to your i386 folder under c:\XPCD 4. type "expand svcpack.in_ svcpack.inf" hit Enter (single space between files) 5. type "svcpack.inf", hit Enter. it'll likely open Notepad 6. look for a section called [setupHotfixesToRun] 7. delete the entire line for the app(s) you do not want to install 8. save file, replace existing file 9. in the command box, type "makecab svcpack.inf" hit Enter 10. type "del svcpack.inf", hit Enter 11. confirm the file exists, type "dir svcpack*", hit Enter, confirm there's a svcpack.in_ file (with today's date & time) 12. type "exit", hit Enter 13. look for a SVCPACK folder under i386 in c:\XPCD, look for app(s) you wish to delete, highlight, delete it 14. (tons of ways to do this, but easiest) open nLite, choose c:\XPCD, choose Bootable ISO, burn directly to new CD
  10. 1. We can't be of too much help without details of the error. 2. Everyone removes things a little different so there isn't one universal removal "plan". It all depends on what you need your computer to do. 3. Use VMWare/Virtualbox for testing.
  11. Can't believe you missed this....
  12. 1. I've been disabling it for ages, no major problems. 2. The option to disable SFC wouldn't be in the program if it caused major problems. 3. This is why you test with VMWare first.
  13. No, this is the right section, we're just too lazy to reply. Umm, yes you should be able to use that source again for further nLite'ing. I normally make several sweeps towards my "perfect" installation. Each additional sweep is generally more & more components removed. I test each sweep in VMWare to make sure it installs all the way, no errors, etc. Once I'm happy, then I burn the last image to a CD. I have a few presets already created and it fills in all my tweaks, etc so it takes less time. Normal routine 1st pass: hotfixes, addons, tweaks, components removed, (I already have a custom WINNT.SIF that handles my unattended stuff) 2nd pass: more components 3rd pass: even more components
  14. They're completely and utterly useless (hence why they are removed by default).
  15. 1) In Tweaks, under Visual Effects, you'll have to "Disable" all those options. I don't believe there's a single Off switch, so to speak, that does them all at once. 2) To make the menu classic, that'll be performed in the Unattended settings. Either select that with nLite or edit WINNT.SIF in Notepad. [Shell] DefaultStartPanelOff = Yes
  16. These are the services I run after nLite is used and I install Win XP. Hopefully, this will help you.
  17. nuhi, I don't mean to sound impatient, but is there a new version of nLite on the horizon? It's been nearly 2 months since 1.4 Beta came out. (sorry if this has been asked already)
  18. legolash2o is right.......Autopatcher, hopefully the link still works: http://ap.cruza.org/Vista_Jul07_Core.exe
  19. Good job nuhi. I'm definitely interested in the hotfix integration. One small glitch I noticed. I ran through all my usual stuff, but I forgot to select bootable ISO, so I go through it again and it created the ISO fine, but I noticed the Apply button was highlighted. I click on it and it prompted me to to rebuild the files. That's odd, I just got done creating the ISO but it wants to rebuild it again. So I clicked Exit and went on my merry way. I'm not sure if I did something out of order, but figure that might cause grief for someone.
  20. Leave them intact; whether they come as RAR, CAB, ZIP, etc leave them be. Simply add the whole file (not individually extracted files) into nLite.
  21. 1. MS updates -- either integrate each hotfix or use something like RyanVM's XP update pack. 2. uTorrent -- Windows Defender -- Firefox -- Windows Live Messenger -- CCleaner. Most of these smaller apps can be easily slipstreamed into the XP install with nLite. (hotfixes section) 3. The larger apps (office & photoshop). you'll have to do some research into how to slipstream those and make the installs automatic. Those files you already downloaded, just drag them into the Hotfixes section of nLite.
  22. Where do you come up with all these witty sayings "Recreate Vista in your own image", "Hammer",something about one disc to rule them all (when a blank CD was reached for the time time),etc? Nevertheless, congrats. You deserve a vacation.
  23. Woohoo, 'Sample Pictures', I was about to report that too. You must have read my mind. As always, great work nuhi. Downloading & testing it tonight. Thanks.
