  1. If you do a search you will find the solution in under 3 seconds.
  2. That's why its the XP version. WMP11 for Vista is built differently.
  3. Micro$oft stuff is never free... so S becomes $... very reasonable. Have you searched their website? Free documentation, free tools, and sometimes free applications. Ever heard of an app called Microsoft Robotics Studio? Its no longer for sale, because its freeware. They even give 180 day trials of their operating systems, and ridiculously discounted versions of current-gen suites like Vista and Office if you know where to search. I am shocked by the sheer ignorance and your attitude as a result.
  4. Test your disk. See if WMI is corrupted from the source disk. Get VirtualBox (freeware) and run a virtual machine.
  5. The decision is yours. Install the BIOS or not. If you install the wrong BIOS your motherboard is junk. Check to make sure it is indeed the motherboard that you have and then install the BIOS. Sometimes motherboard differ from geographic areas. Find out what market this board was designed for and go to the appropriate support site. The big black thing is an ISA slot. How do I know this? I looked in the specs and saw "1x ISA slot" then Googled it.
  6. It probably has mini-PCIE or whatever the connection is called. Chances are it would work if the BIOS supports it. What video cards do you have. Get whatever printed serial or GPU ID information you can off it and Google it.
  7. Did you slipstream SP3,were you using an SP3 disk, or did you install SP3 after OS install.
  8. "My car had a flat tire so put the spare on. I drove for a few miles then the wheel fell off. The problem must be the engine so I'm getting it replaced." Does that make any sense to you?
  9. Vize x64?
  10. No offense but overall these icons are terrible. Windows has been about function over form, even with Vista. Yes these icons are very pretty... by themselves.... alone. Put toghether a folder of these and its visual chaos.
  11. You can remove and di$able window$ $earch. You can al$o get rid of indexing. Mo$t people ju$t $et indexing for $mall folder$ like $hortcut$ and document$ to $top it from hogging re$ource$ and $till be kind of u$eful.
  12. How do I reduce the installation size of 2007? Any junk that can be removed past the basic install options?
  13. What I understand so far: 1. Get the Install.wim from the 2008 disk. 2. Use ImageX commandline tool from WAIK, and mount it to a folder. 3. Use RedEdit and load the hive from [mount folder]\windows\system32\config "SOFTWARE.File" or "SOFTWARE" with no extension. Name the Hive something to keep track. 4. In the loaded hive, do a search for "Visibility". There are a bunch of packages registered that have "Visibility". Now what? Changing the dword visibility does what? Also, I notice there are the Component folders in the hive: What can be done with those?
  14. Ok. This thread still does not make any sense. 1. Is WAIK done to the contents of a CD? Which is then burned and installed as a 'cleaned' system. Or done to an existing installation. 2. What is this hive stuff with the regedit? Hive what? There are alot of files in system32/config. Nothing specified. 3. Removing packages is still not clear. Is it done throguh command line? Windows SIM?
  15. You need memory, the CPU, a keyboard, and reccomended cdrom and hard drive to boot.
  16. The best one is the one that works well. Drivers and hardware. What's the point of a good piece of hardware if the drivers are buggy? There isn't.
  17. Make the vista slim install and make sure you keep everything for 'Windows Update' option. This way you can keep it up to date with the latest patches. Don't expect to get a super slim image since it keeps some of the bulk. WinSXS folder mostly.
  18. Ahhh. So I can delete WinSXS and still have Aero like Vista. That's my main concern. I just want to clean out the WinSXS folder and all the reduntant files connected to it.
  19. Try this build of Open Office. Its called Go-OO. Supposed to be alot faster & lighter. http://lifehacker.com/5084510/go+oo-takes-...f-openofficeorg

    SP1 Question?

You should have no issues. Source and date please.
  21. Ok, this thread has got me . I installed WAIK. I have the Server 2008 x64 Install.wim file loaded. 1. I can see a bunch of packages. How can I remove them? I'm using the GUI. 2. What is this pre-install of components? 3. WAIK doesn't actually remove anything... it just disables the packages from installing? Can someone point me to Step 1 please.
  22. Yes. You need to manually enable it though. See this guide: Convert your Windows Server 2008 to a Workstation! http://www.win2008workstation.com/wordpress/
  23. I'm using Nero 8. It's a 32-bit app and it works. CDBurnerXP also works. What software have you tried and what kinds of issues did it give you while not working?
  24. Could you make an updated .ini that gives you the slimmest possible image without disrupting the 'add/remove' function? This way people can tailor their own config by deselecting whatever needs to remain.
  25. My friend, You are in luck. Check out the download section at: http://www.mvktech.net/. They have it for sure. Also, try techpowerup database section. They have BIOS files too, maybe an updated version.
