  1. Check the changelog or any readme files that came with the driver. Also check the manufacturer's website thoroughly. Motherboard download, and specs sections, and any user manuals that you can sometimes download.
  2. For driver compatibility in 90% of cases: Windows 98, 98SE = Windows ME Windows XP = Windows 2003 = Windows 2000 Windows Vista = Windows 2008 If it doesn't work then you can change the OS identifier string in the *.inf file that comes with the driver.
  3. Yes I know. Windows inside Photoshop's main window use the Aero Basic theme. Its still hardware accelerated, it just doesn't have transparency and looks a little weird.
  4. Yeah seriously. If you string up all the old equipment you have in a cluster, you can have the equivalent power of a $800 PC now.
  5. Use nLite to make a bootable ISO.
  6. Here's a step-by-step: 1. Open vLite. 2. Delete Languages.
  7. Yes it does. If you want the CD to boot. It has to be boot-able. The burning software does not do that for you. Get a bootable CD, or make it bootable. For XP/2000 use nLite and make a boot-able iso and then burn that. If you can't boot off the CD; Get a bootable floppy image off the net and write it to floppy disk. It will start up DOS command line and loads some CD drivers. Navigate to your CD and start your OS setup.exe.
  8. Well, duh. There's not a drastic difference between Nehalem and Core 2 Quad anyways. Deneb seems to be pretty good considering a 2.7Ghz Opteron is a tad faster than a 3.0Ghz Xeon at a very reasonable price and much lower power consumption. Opteron Preview: http://it.anandtech.com/IT/showdoc.aspx?i=3456
  9. It is faster, but x64 uses more memory because of the 64-bit overhead so it may slow things down if you run out of RAM. I would put in 4GB of memory and then install x64 otherwise I'd leave x86 on it.
  10. Don't let Vista mess with burnable media. Its got a weak burning system anyways. Use Nero or CDBurnerXP or ImgBurn.
  11. Core i7 consumes less power, it is significantly faster IF the application is heavily multithreaded. 8 or more threads. It's also far more expensive when you consider that: i7 CPU + X58 Motherboard + Tri-Channel DDR3 kit. Bang for buck, Nehalem is junk. Its 30% faster and 300% more expensive. Your options are as follows: Intel Core 2 Duo. Q9450, Q9550, Q9650 E0 steppings on all. Phenom. Anything will do for the moment until.... Deneb. New 45nm CPUs are out for server market as of today. It's faster by ~20% and consumes less power. Deneb will come to desktops in a few months. It matches and exceeds a little bit Core 2 Duo Quads in performance but consumes less power. I'll wager the new Phenom 45nm when it hits consumer desktops will be in the middle between Core 2 Duo and Nehalem performance.
  12. I'm just curious. When was your last PC purchased?
  13. You can get an addon card for serial. What do you need it for anyways?
  14. Clean your LCD with a rag and some water. Isopropyl alcohol worst case. Also, tune the brightness, contrast, gamma, and colors for optimum appearance. Use the nVidia tuning app in the control panel if you've got it. Anybody know of a similar wizard for ATi/Other cards? Yeah, use native resolution and put it on the max refresh rate. If your LCD has VGA and DVI connectors, go for DVI (white one) if possible. And that's about everything.
  15. Wasn't me. It was mr. one-post above.
  16. I use CCleaer with no problems. NTREGOPT is flawless. You can try RegSeeker 1.55. I used it religiously on XP without issues, only ran it a couple of times on Vista.
  17. Its considered warez because the software is not legal. There's all sorts of NDAs and EULAs for beta software from Microsoft. And yes, the 'official' beta DVD is already bootable. No changes needed. edit: damnit. this thread is REALLY old.
  18. Usually you see just the computer icon when connecting. When connected you see it with the globe. If there is no issue with your connection then; Don't fix it if it aint broke.
  19. You might later want to review your opinion... Already done so. He mentioned secure deletion of data. Yes you can delete the files quickly, but most are still recoverable until overwritten. Zeroes work, but I like a random pattern just for the hell of it. Its still overwriting either way. Yes it does put a negligible amount of wear & tear on an already worn drive.
  20. Garbage? Do tell.
  21. Mint Linux (Ubuntu derivative) or XP.
  22. Seriously? Wikipedia:
  23. MinWin was scrapped. Not surprised.
  24. You're pinging ranges of IP adresses. Very shady. What script kiddie level are you?
  25. You can run XP. You need the drivers from each manufacturer. Videocard, motherboard.... etc. Go through each one. Download them, install XP, then install the drivers.
