  1. <OT> OT and forgive the interruption - is "forfgive" a word? Here, in Belgium, it's either "forgive" , "forgave" or "forgiven". Just curious because I have never ever seen "forfgive". I couldn't find anything. Of course, also acknowledging that the forum is no longer allowed to use US English, but still allowed to make typos. </OT>

  4. See, I think that's taking it too far. As an American, you should be able to write in American English, and north of the border, I'll use the Queen's English. We understand each other. No differently, if I was referring to an American place, I would respect that location name, such as "World Trade Center", not "... Centre". In my mind, a Canadian/UK spelling would be incorrect.

  5. Ever heard of a typo? Happens even to the best. If you had read my posts carefully, you would have noticed that I had written it correctly in the post before: The part to which you refer came in the next post: If you're not interested in the content of my posts, and you're just looking for spelling mistakes, have fun with it! You will certainly find one or two more.

  6. @feodor2 Thanks in advance! And since you are the creator of Mypal 68, have kindly restored compatibility with the legacy Custom Buttons extension and have already installed it, I have chosen you as the very first to install my new custom button PMT - Process Mode Toggler, which I created for use in Mypal 68, only if you want, of course. I am really interested in your opinion, which you are welcome to post here or in my thread Mypal 68 in Windows XP - Custom Buttons and Extensions. I'll send you the download link via PM. The use of this custom button is explained in the Button Help which can be accessed by a right-click onto this button. Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper

  7. @feodor2 And after all the issues I've reported here, here's something positive that I've noticed. Mypal 68.14.6b runs pleasantly fast in single-process mode and seems to use less RAM than before. That is really pleasing. Thanks for that!

  8. Mypal 68.14.6b - Confirmation popup incorrectly displayed when installing extensions @feodor2 When installing extensions in Mypal 68.14.6b, the last confirmation popup is incorrectly displayed. It doesn't matter whether running the browser in single-process mode or multi-process mode. Here is a screenshot: Here is, for example, a screenshot taken from Mypal 68.14.4b where this confirmation popup is correctly displayed. TBH, this issue is not as important as the previous ones but it is an issue. Or did you make this change consciously?

  9. Mypal 68.14.6b - GIF image animation broken in single-process mode @feodor2 Purely by chance, I have discovered that the animation of GIF images in Mypal 68.14.6b does not work when the browser is operated in single-process mode. Of course, the preference image.animation_mode is set to the value normal. When switching to multi-process mode, however, the animation of GIF files works again. So this seems to be an issue that only affects the single-process mode. Look at my Matrix GIF image below! I should still mention that this issue didn't occur in your previous releases. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  12. OT, so I'll keep it short ... @Mark-XP, many thanks for your kind interest in me and your genuine offer ; the thing is I haven't contemplated thus far a migration to one of the many Linux distros, but thanks anyway... I only spent ca. 3yrs on WinXP, so am not that much "attached" to it (not an "XP die-hard", IOW), but this is where I learned computing, which came very late in my adult years... By some coincidence (lack of one H/W driver for XP at the time), my personal first laptop that came with Vista OEM (SP0) x86 was never switched back to WinXP SP3; after SP1 was released, the OS became very trustworthy and over time I grew to really "love" it (hence my username here), despite the general negativity towards it... In my household there exist one Win7 SP1 x64 laptop (from 2011) and a 2020-bought one with Win10, the latter used mainly for financial online transactions... Win10 has WSL, so I guess I could get acquainted with "Linux" if the need really arises... Sadly, my RL has enough of frustration as it is, actually getting bigger by the month (personal things I won't disclose here); I'd rather do without so much frustration in my DL, too; plus, the adage "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" seems to suit me fine currently ... Over the years, of course, I have come across Linux related subjects in various forums, this isn't totally "alien-land" for me; as an exclusive Windows user I learned very quickly to use the Command Prompt and CLI software (while many of my Windows-using close friends, till this day, remain oblivious of non-GUI apps); so the "terminal" doesn't frighten me that much in itself; it's the steep learning curve I'm not inclined to deal with... PS: When Mozilla removed support for XP+Vista starting with Fx-53, Vista usage was tenfold the Linux usage, so I wrote to Mozilla and complained that they were OK to continue supporting the few Linux users, but NOT the Vista ones; I was more naive at the time, not fully aware of "planned obsolescence" and "agendas" by the big IT companies; Mozilla staff didn't bother responding, one community fellow user mentioned "lack of future OS security updates", but I wasn't convinced (by then, it was discovered already one could install WS2008 security updates on Vista, how about that?) ; from that time on, subconsciously at least, I began harbouring some aversion towards "lucky" Linux - this has waned now, FWIW... OT end (darn, I haven't kept it short )

  13. Use archive org,! Intel simply deletes old drivers from time to time, and those will soon be 15 years old. So use archived pages.

  17. Windows Vista Extended Kernel is no longer developed, at least from what we see here. It's now 2025, 2021 is long gone, and you won't be able to run new software on it anyways. For example, you would only be able to run Chrome from 2 years ago, do you really need that? That said, I deeply regret it stopped updating!

  18. @feodor2 First of all, thanks for all your efforts! Especially for restoring the compatibility with the legacy Custom Buttons extension in Mypal 68.14.6b. At the moment, I am testing this new release and found several issues. Mypal 68.14.6b - The loading and scrolling websites issue in multi-process mode Unfortunately, I have to report that loading websites and scrolling them from top to bottom is seriously broken in my fresh installation with a fresh profile (untouched) when running Mypal 68.14.6b in multi-process mode. If scrolling to the top of this MSFN page, for example, leads to a blue window without content. Here is a screenshot: I didn't notice any corresponding errors in the browser console. I have installed the browser versions 68.14.4b, 68.14.5b and, since today, the browser version, 68.14.6b under Windows XP. The website loading and scrolling issue does not occur in version 68.14.4b or in version 68.14.5b. That means the issue started as of your new release 68.14.6b. And the general.smoothScroll preference is of course set to true which is the default value. So, this issue seems to be a more general one in multi-process mode and does not only happen if the general.smoothScroll preference is set to false. P.S.: After some more tests, I noticed that the website loading and scrolling issue doesn't seem to occur in your new release 68.14.6b when running the browser in single-process mode. In this mode, the loading and scrolling of this MSFN website here is very fast and error-free. It therefore appears to be primarily a multi-process mode issue. Maybe, this information is useful for you. At least I do hope so. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  19. Yes, the case where you activate native start menu on one monitor but then close via activating app on another monitor seems to be bugged. How did you enable showing start menu via Win key on non-main monitor?

  20. TCHAN TCHAN TCHAN, MYSTERY ABOUT TO BE SOLVED. I think it is ready for... FINAL JUDGMENT!!!! THE CLUES 1- From Italy @silverni reports that the limit with Windows 2003 drivers is 2 TiB. Also reports from the Dominican Republic @realisty 2- From the Dominican Republic @realisty reports that Paragon drivers do not exceed the 2TiB limit using PAE. Also reports from Italy @Andalu 3- From Italy @jaclaz reports that some USB adapters modify the physical sector information reporting that this is 4096 bytes instead of 512 bytes. He also reports that actually he has not yet seen a SSD that has the larger size a 4096 byte sector size and that disks with physical sector 4096 he thinks only exist from 8 Tb. He also reports that Paragon drivers do not work via USB. 4- From Andorra @Milkinis reports that Microsoft officially only supports disks with 4K physical sector since Windows Eight. 5- From the United Kingdom @Dave-H reports that the physical sector of his Seagate ST3000 disk has 512 bytes of physical sector. 6- From Spain @Cixert reports that his Seagate ST3000 disk has 4096 bytes of physical sector in contradiction with the same unit that @Dave-H exposes. @Cixert also reports that the error does not occur when the disk exceeds 2 TiB, but rather when writing to logical sectors located above those 2 TiB, even if the disk is empty. That is what we will see next and that I think is the key to solving the criminal case. According to the device that I am using to connect the hard disk, it reports a different size of physical sector and logical sector. As a defense we will call @Bill_Gates Oops, he's not on the forum? He must be using a pseudonym Then upload screenshots for this Toshiba HDWD260 disk... *There may be some data transcribed incorrectly, if so I will correct it in the next few hours. AS GPT DISK Logilink USB adapter on any system: Logical sector: 4096 bytes Physical sector: 4096 bytes JMcrom USB adapter on Windows Seven: Logical sector: 512 bytes Physical sector: 4096 bytes JMcrom USB adapter on Windows XP: Logical sector: ???? Physical sector: ???? I will confirm with w2003 drivers SATA on Windows XP 32 bits with Paragon Driver: Logical sector: 512 bytes Physical sector: 512 bytes SATA on Windows Seven x64 with native driver: Logical sector: 512 bytes Physical sector: 4096 bytes AS MBR DISK Logilink USB adapter on any system: Logical sector: 4096 bytes Physical sector: 4096 bytes SATA on Windows XP 32 bits: -Does not work. I will try to find some value. SATA on Windows Seven x64 with native driver: Logical sector: 512 bytes Physical sector: 4096 bytes It seems that the solution is to find a way to make Windows report that the hard drive has a logical sector size of 4096 bytes, since SATA is reporting that the hard drive on Windows Seven x64 has a physical sector size of 4096 bytes and yet MBR with +2 TiB does not work with SATA, only with the Logilink adapter that reports a logical sector of 4096 bytes. There are still many mysteries to be solved that surely someone knows but we are not getting all the information. Why are some disks limited to 4 TB? What I still don't understand is how the Paragon 8.0.1.0 driver works with SATA +2TiB drives while other versions of this driver don't and Windows 2003 drivers don't either. I think that if we try to solve this we are on the right track. Thanks to all the necessary contributions made by all the users in the thread... @RainyShadow @ED_Sln @WINUSERUntil2023 @Zollex @patcat88 @j7n @tekkaman @Houfino @Saxon @Dixel @D.Draker @Jotnar @mina7601 @dmiranda @TSNH @pappyN4 @aoresteen @user57@roytam1@Outbreaker @Multibooter Remember that the mystery is partially solved and we can read SATA +2TiB disks only with the Paragon 8.0.1.0 driver without PAE. Other versions do not work.

  21. ... Most sadly , I have no reason whatsoever to believe they'll do otherwise ; I remember I had quite a hard time myself to convince them to extend py3.7's support until its official EoL by the PSF and build yt-dlp_x86.exe on it (for the sake of Vista/Win7 32-bit users); and they didn't think twice one year later about deprecating py3.8, leaving the still quite numerous Win7 (32/64-bit) users stranded; and, God forbid, they wouldn't use adang's Win7 mods, of course not ; indirectly, "they" shifted the onus upon you to provide yt-dlp builds to the Win7 communities, which you did out of the goodness of your heart and your extreme altruism, for which you are to be highly praised ! ... I firmly believe that now is the time to "kindly" approach talented "retro" coders like adang or Supermium's win32ss and enquire the feasibility of producing py3.10/3.11 binaries compatible with Vista SP2 (that should be easier, I think ) and, eventually, XP SP3... Perhaps someone over at the MDL forums could do it, I've seen more difficult things getting ported (like an FFmpeg-7.1 32-bit build that runs on XP/Vista) ... Kindest regards, many thanks for holding the "retro" flag high ...

  22. Supermium 126.0.6478.261 R7 is now out, apparently the last 126 version. A 132 version is due in February. I don't think I will bother to update again until the 132 version is released.

  23. I'm sorry to say that I can no more afford hosting a proxy server. That can be the error cause. You have to host your own following my instructions (Windows 10/11 works fine for it) and add proxy IP and CA on every client (the installer should do the rest). Anyway, WSUS should not be enabled if you're using my method.

  31. We all can test a lot. But AVG 18.8 is definitely supported under Windows Vista. Following approximating equation has to be evaluated by the Boolean value of true: Avast 18.8 ≈ AVG 18.8
    1 point
  32. That's not correct, unfortunately. AVG 18.8 versions won't receive security updates anymore but definition updates. There is a significant difference. BTW, Avast and AVG are almost the same. Now one and the same company, so what applies to Avast also applies to AVG. I know both of them very well. I used them for years. That's why I didn't mention AVG here at all.
