  1. You're welcome! Yes, indeed murky. AV1 is murky too, but it tries to compensate with high contrast settings. Murky/blurry video needs less pixels, less pixels mean less file size, simple math. Then one can claim he achieved a new breakthrough! H264/x264 were the last good formats. There are some rare exception for H265 8bit made with the first encoders, they are somewhat bearable, but not as good as x264. NVENC was always a piece of blurry garbage for all formats, anyways, the produced result was never sharp.

  2. Ryzen 7 5800X. Thank you! Finally somebody sad that. I recently was walking in park and thinking to myself that all this "new" formats are creating picture inferior to well tuned h.264. P.S. I can add from myself that h.265 also create some kind of murkiness in videos and AV1 is insanely slow at encoding in this format.

  3. A quite legitimate question, which I have also asked myself time and again, is why you should still use MU/WU under Windows XP at all. There are no longer any new updates anyway. The answer is very simple. If you make any changes or retrofit components from Microsoft, it can happen that updates are available for these, which logically could not be installed before. I installed the Windows Media Encoder 9 a few days ago. After a search via MU, an update was actually found. In addition, MU also found a further missing update that was previously installed but is no longer available for whatever reason. It is therefore worth running a search via MU/WU from time to time.

  4. I said quite sure, not 100% certain. It's easy to guess because nVidia is famous for making artificial restrictions for older OS in general, a goof example was the artificial rate refresh limit introduced for XP. Sorry, I don't have GTX960/50. I have a GTXTitan (Jan. 2013). And some time ago found a working 780 Ti in the local dumpster (E-waste). Both only support 8 bit H265, not 10 bit.

  6. You mean he can't see any video output at all? But it should play using only the CPU! Edit. Probably his output colour is limited, so he needs to choose 8bit colour depth videos only.

  7. Today, I have installed Legacy Update 1.9 on my Windows XP Professional SP3 installation where POSReady updates have never been applied. It's just a pure Windows XP 32-bit. Due to the lack of POSReady updates, I decided to test Legacy Update in this XP installation. It was installed in seconds and calling up this service worked without any problems. It even offered to install root certificates and POSReady updates, which I didn't want and had to untick during the install process, though. The Windows Update search was performed in the Internet Explorer without any settings or actions by the user, and only few minutes later, it was done. Great service! I can definitely recommend it, especially to those who haven't use the POSReady hack. BTW, the result was the same I got in 2014 as all WU/MU updates have been installed at that time. I just wanted to be sure that no updates are missing.

  10. What about my "views", and how do they matter? MSFN members from the US can't supply Russians with any form of software or IT services, starting from the 12th of September, what is so hard to understand?

  11. I'd gladly help you, but I don't have a high end CPU or PC. My most "powerful" is Pentium G from 2013? 2014? Supposedly, I can push it hard (overclock to the max.), but them again, it's not far from that old Quad Core.

  12. What I am 100% certain of, - MPC-HC 64bit version decodes 10bit H265 faster than the 32bit counterpart, Try 64bit XP, maybe?

  13. Thank you @Jody Thornton, MailNews(32 bit) runs nicely in both of my Windows environments, XP/32 and Win7/64, but i'll try out Epyrus anyway - since it seems to be maintained slighty stronger.

  16. x265 10 bit tends to suppress film grain, H265 8bit tends to over-saturate videos a lot. AV1 tends to over-contrast videos a lot.

  17. The OP specifically asked about decoding, not encoding. His GPU obviously lacks NVENC anyways.

  18. I'm glad you think rebasing the xul.dll file makes sense. Mozilla doesn't care about less RAM usage. Like many other manufacturers, they assume that the users of their newer versions have enough RAM available in their computers. Otherwise they would not produce such rubbish.

  19. I am not always right. But a pure comparison of CPUs is not sufficient. Read here, for example, about the difference between SD-RAM and DDR2-RAM: https://www.transcend-info.com/support/faq-296#:~:text=DDR2 SDRAM(Double Data Rate,(double of DDR SDRAM). Maybe now you'll realise what I'm talking about. And apart from that, an Intel Pentium 4 is not the same as an Intel Pentium 4. There were different series like Willamette, Northwood, and Prescott. And within these series different FSB clock rates. So, forget about these comparison sites! The only way to compare our computers is doing the same test regarding all hardware components. P.S.: Due to my motherboard layout, there are several bottlenecks. Firstly, the extremely slow SD-RAM memory, then the very low bus clock rate and finally the AGP 4x interface, although my graphics card actually is an AGP 8x one.

  20. Please, don't come up with your "gut feelings"! I have presented all the essential facts that you have not commented on. My presentation has nothing to do with subjectivity and hypotheses. But as I said, it's offtopic here anyway and actually totally irrelevant. Your cucumber is old and mine is many years older.

  24. As you surely noticed, you have to use a more recent version v1.5 of ProxHTTPSProxy when using IE8 for connecting with MU/WU. The error code 0x80072F78 is described as "ERROR_HTTP_INVALID_SERVER_RESPONSE = The server response could not be parsed." You should check everthing related to your internet connection. Did you already read my Complete guide for restoring IE's access to WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy in Windows XP? I think you missed something.
    1 point
  25. Did you also check if ProxHTTPSProxy is working on other websites, for example, accessing the website https://www.howsmyssl.com/ in the Internet Explorer, as it should? Please, post one screenshot of this website including the programme window of ProxHTTPSProxy!

  26. If my tip An experimental solution for the error code 0x80072F78 while accessing the WU/MU website doesn't work for you, here some further ideas: Check the Windows Update log. Check the date and time of your computer and Windows XP. Check if Windows XP is activated. Try a more recent ProxHTTPSProxy version. Check if the proxy is installed correctly and is working properly. Update all certificates.

  30. I remember about 10 years ago i read about it and now i totally forgot. I was thinking today about this and did not remeber. I do not have 144Hz monitor so i can not test solutions that i read today in internet. So... https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=75570 Many years ago nvidia drivers have check-mark "Treat as HDTV", which can be unpicked. But it no longer there perhaps it hidden and needed some reg file to be activated, nvidia did such tricks long time ago with hidden options in drivers. Also i am not sure that would help. So my idea that you can create an alternative driver for your monitor using 2 methods: 1) Program Monitor Asset Manager (MonInfo) - "App can both read and write data in number of formats. It can also generate INF files, which can be used as custom monitor driver." I assume you can edit that .inf file to add needed refresh rates. https://www.rarst.net/software/moninfo/ 2) Method that i found on some old google cache text: I'm sorry i did not find anything else. Only that.

  35. Wrong , you just don't know how to do it properly , you need to inject it , not to use extensions and the such . Also , you need to block the platform tag in the browser itself . Do not disinform people . I remember our lengthy discussion in another topic where you couldn't cheat HTML5 test website, but I could and provided with the proof. Aren't you gonna say something about Firefox ?

  37. Another common mortal here, but I think we've had enough of that same ol' mantra of yours ; you keep revisiting/reciting the same demands, and I imagine you'll keep doing so unless you have it your own way, pretty much like a spoiled child that keeps crying to have its needs met ... Common/mere mortals as in browser users (and, mind you, common/mortal browser users are only using the latest Google Chrome version on Win10/Android these days...) are expected to follow and apply detailed and easy to understand instructions others have compiled to mitigate known issues in the niche browser builds they're using in their niche (as in outdated/unsupported by vendor) Windows OSes; those instructions aren't meant for developers, just users! FirefoxESR 45.9.x and patented decoders support => detailed instructions posted (by me and others) to enable it via Adobe Primetime CDM or LAV Filters DLL files (takes 5min of your time, max...) Arctic Fox and patented decoders support => this fork is originally meant for MacOS, where h264/aac support is native to the OS; added code is probably needed to accomplish this for Windows, especially for XP... uBlock0-legacy on BNav => you need only a code/text editor to open/modify/save its "install.rdf" file according to instructions given; other mere mortals here in these forums can, why aren't you willing to? Doesn't take more that 1min, max... ... "Without your intervention?" This comes across as quite disrespectful to the massive effort exerted by the maintainer of several browser forks; aren't you willing to make yourself even the slightest of efforts? It appears you only want to be spoon-fed, so that your stomach is kept full without "your intervention"... Grow up! To all others: I apologise for the rant-ish nature of my post, but I had to vent...
