"Russian Businesses Can Now Legally Steal Intellectual Property from ‘Unfriendly Countries’" "As of Monday, March 7, 2022, the Russian government has legalised intellectual property (IP) theft. With this move, businesses in Russia can now violate IP rights, as they no longer need to compensate patent holders from “unfriendly countries.” The list of “unfriendly countries” includes the United States, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and all 27 European Union (EU) member countries." That includes software. https://ipwatchdog.com/2022/03/16/russian-businesses-can-now-legally-steal-intellectual-property-unfriendly-countries/id=147528/3 points

No, I think I wrote very clear, in a very simple English. Not the first time other people and I notice troubles with your translation software. "Any user, who is going to join, needs to be warned in advance that he will be forced to adhere to the laws of the welcoming entity." In other words, hey foreigner, follow the US laws, or be banned. Same here. 0 Byte. I have an old wsusscn2.cab file from 09.12.2019 which I use for WUMT. This file can be downloaded here: https://web.archive.org/web/20191209214827/http://download.windowsupdate.com/microsoftupdate/v6/wsusscan/wsusscn2.cab. And here is one from 21.04.2019: https://web.archive.org/web/20190421082203/http://download.windowsupdate.com/microsoftupdate/v6/wsusscan/wsusscn2.cab. In any case, I will start a new download session with the one from 09.12.2019. Not today but tomorrow.2 points

What is POSReady2009? And how it's related to Win7 Kernel? Win7 was released only at the end of 2009.2 points

No, it's not. Here's a MonoBleedingEdge (Engine version from 2019) log file for you from: OS-Version: 6.1.0 (win 7). Renderer: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (ID=0x1b81) GTX 1070 supports all the way up tp 12_1. Yet the log for Windows 7 says: "Forcing GfxDevice: Direct3D 11 GfxDevice: creating device client; threaded=1 d3d11: QueryInterface(IDXGIFactory5) failed (80004002). Direct3D: Version: Direct3D 11.0 [level 11.0]" Source: https://steamcommunity.com/app/251570/discussions/1/2646361461399067327/ It's from 2020! Eight years after the alleged 11.1 update KB came out.2 points

From this first sentence it's clear as day that you implied that Microsoft actually did bring "D3D11.1 API to Win 7" And no matter how many games I tried to run on Win 7, even after the aforementioned update applied, they all fall back to just 11.0. So, D3D11.1 on Win 7 is just a stub, it's not "API" like you wrote. What it does, it simply tells a game, go on, run, it runs, but with 11.0 since the 11.1 features are absent. One would need to rewrite Win 7 to actually add the real D3D 11,1. That's what D.Draker tried to explain to you. As of now, Vista and Win 7 have the same 11.0. Is it more clear now?2 points

I am running WSUS 9.2.6 XP64 with .NET & C++ right now and it is working fine. The Excludelist-Supersed.txt file I paste when you script says pause. If I paste it before it is replaced by the empty version. Hi, I noticed a problem. First of all I use StartAllBack 3.8.1 on fully updated Windows 11 Pro 23H2. The problem is with the EA app. When I try to open this app it doesn't open, it just stays in the taskbar with blank miniature. I am attaching a screenshot of what it looks like exactly. The app only works when I click on it in the taskbar after a while but when I disable "enhanced taskbar" everything start working as it should and the EA app open normally. I'm convinced this strange behavior started when I updated StartAllBack to 3.8.1 because this issue didn't happen before on version 3.7.11 - Is there any way to fix this or any chance of fixing this issue in one of the future StartAllBack updates? I would be very grateful for that. Mentioned screenshot of the problem.1 point

Hi, noticed very distracting bug...in 3.8.x version when doing something (in this example in TC) like calculating sha1 on large dir etc., progress line in taskbar does not reset after it is finished or canceled. It stays like in attached bug.png forever (or until minimized to tray->restored): ...when in fact it should be like in attached Nobug.png, as soon as progress is canceled/finished (because nothing is copying/progressing/doing anymore) Only tested version 3.7.11 for a short time before, as I remember in that version this bug was not present. First and foremost, it's not off-topic, github declares it. Read their terms of service. https://docs.github.com/en/site-policy/github-terms/github-terms-of-service What is it exactly you don't understand? They can't use "any" laws. Evidence is they they took down the Kernel project and their open statement in the terms. "2. We have the right to refuse or remove any User-Generated Content that, in our sole discretion, violates any laws or GitHub terms or policies. User-Generated Content displayed on GitHub Mobile may be subject to mobile app stores' additional terms."1 point

Where do you see evidence of this? Perhaps a different topic should be started. If it were a few others derailing this thread, the "Birds of a Feather" would be shouting off-topic and liking each other's post telling other members to stay on topic.1 point

for @66cats. In other, very simple words, the alleged American company Github declares it can prosecute members using any laws, For example, prosecute a member from Canada using Russian laws. EDIT. I'd never join such website.1 point

Self-evident is another very important matter, and I quote. "2. We have the right to refuse or remove any User-Generated Content that, in our sole discretion, violates any laws or GitHub terms or policies. User-Generated Content displayed on GitHub Mobile may be subject to mobile app stores' additional terms." In light of the fact I posted yesterday, about the Russian government that has officially legalised intellectual property theft and made it a law. In the quote above, Github declares it may act on any laws, not only US laws, so it may allow Russians to steal members' intellectual property, and those members can't do anything about it, they had been warned, and accepted github terms. For example, Russians write to github and demand them to open up someone's work, or take it down. But if a Russian member hosts stolen property on github, it's all according to their "law", so all is "fine". Sources: https://docs.github.com/en/site-policy/github-terms/github-terms-of-service https://ipwatchdog.com/2022/03/16/russian-businesses-can-now-legally-steal-intellectual-property-unfriendly-countries/id=147528/1 point

well i dont think the 13 gb are the size if you combine all to 1 installer these small installers always use codes and files that take "extra disc-space" also some are reppetiv that means also less disc space 2000 files definatly are some longer work but for a such size a programm would be a solution that maybe logs these KB upgrades (that still make it some work, but you are far faster when you just have a programm that says you what this installer in doing) in LLVM i had this problem it was around 130-180 executables/dlls/modules that had this version problem , so i made a small programm to fix all of these ~150 executables with that programm - that worked out if you do so you will have just 1 executable that install that office 2003 in 1 step actually if you want a more simple method this 1 is fast to do: you write a script (for example a .bat/batch file) where you says "run" kb1 /q (for quied and doing it) the next line follows "run" kb /q and so on... that dont make it very fast but that is still certainly better then downloading them and running them step-wise1 point

I already had created an update list for XP (SP4 in Spanish that I have never published) and for .NET Framework that can be seen here https://msfn.org/board/topic/151424-net-framework-for-windows-nt-5x-2000xp2003/?do=findComment&comment=1244701 WSUS 9.2. Option Office 2003 & 2007 @LORPAL My motivations to use WSUS offline update is to get updates for Office 2000-XP-2003-2007-2010 a suite that I no longer use but that I might need at any time. The matter is difficult, I found ISOs at archive.org with updates that included from Office 2003 to Office 2013. Why do I want them? I wondered, especially because Office 2013 is not compatible with XP. So the mission impossible to get the loose updates for each version of Office began. Now immersed in this impossible mission I finally notice and read this within the Wsus Menu 9.2.6: Office 2003-2010 (OFC) "If you select an office product above, Dinamically determined updates for office 2003 - 2010 will be included automatically" So it seems that it is impossible to get those isolated updates with WSUS. Entering the moment of the mission: Great @AstroSkipper that we are getting slightly newer versions of WSUSSCN2.cab, but not too much. In Office 2003 & 2007 if WSUSSCN2.CAB is used, what happens is that hundreds of files are downloaded, although they do not appear it could be Office updates for all Windows versions, and as I mentioned before, they contain updates for different versions of Office The strange thing is that using the latest version of WSUSSCN2.Cab the updates downloaded are different if WSUS 9.2.6 are executed in XP (2529 updates) and in seven (800 updates). However, thanks to @AstroSkipper, I have proven that using WSUSSCN2.CAB from 2019 the updates downloaded from XP are much less and contain a name that resembles an Office update more than to an update of Windows Seven or 10. Perhaps to limit further to Office 2003 and 2007, a WSUSSCN2.CAB 2017 version should be used, which @AstroSkipper has also facilitated. If with WSUS 11.9.6 the updates for Office 2010 are discharged, the size reaches 13 GIB. So it is easy to think that it not only contains updates for Office 2010. And there is the question of checking if these updates can be installed on Windows XP, in any of the aforementioned Office. The 2007 Office download with WSUSSCN2.CAB from 2019 contains updates of March 2019, when theoretically they have been discontinued since 2017. So yes, it seems impossible.1 point

I copied and pasted ExcludeList-superseded.txt with 1640 KiB and ran WSUS with the latest wsusscn2.cab with the "Cleanup download directories" option. Now 290 updates are downloaded instead of 559 and the folder finally has 303 updates left. You can try the updated version for XP (without .NET) of ExcludeList-superseded.txt or download this version from 2020-July (latest SHA-1) that they say works from Windows 2000 to Seven. https://archive.org/details/wsusscn2 It's funny that according to Microsoft the new version works since 2007-March https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/a-new-version-of-the-windows-update-offline-scan-file-wsusscn2-cab-is-available-for-advanced-users-fe433f4d-44f4-28e3-88c5-5b22329c0a08 But we are already checking that it doesn't work... What I don't know is if we copy and paste the version for XP without .NET if it will have .NET since I am seeing that the version of ExcludeList-superseded.txt is different for each option checked.1 point

Fair enough. But I really really really FAIL to see why it has become a DEFENSIVE STANCE. Are these not OPEN SOURCE GITHUB COMMITS? I do not have a GitHub account and, admittedly, "could care less" who borrowed from whom. I myself have seen DOZENS of "my" 360Chrome mods borrowed by various members/countries/websites - don't care, I actually find it as more of a pat on the back that "my" work made it into other people's projects. It's also quite cool and a pat on the back when I see my XP-themed mods make it into YouTube videos - don't care that these videos don't even cite MSFN as where they obtained their XP-themed 360Chrome. These were over a year ago, but I'm sure they are still out there - don't care if they are or are not. Now then, having said that, if I made money on these mods, then yeah, it would be a different story. I guess my only takeaway is this - if you feel "win32" would be equally defensive, then shouldn't this "argument" be at GITHUB instead of here at MSFN? I mean, aren't BOTH of these projects hosted at GITHUB? If terms of service agreements were violated, then there are proper channels to go through to get one or both of these projects removed.1 point
-
You seem to be ignoring this part of his post. Your interpretation still seems quite "defensive" and "retaliatory". Almost as if you WANT this to be YOUR fight. Chromium commits are PUBLIC DOMAIN. I don't have the time or energy to engage further. Not my fight.1 point
-
I myself did not see that. I read the same thing you read. I did not interpret it the same way that you did. Language barriers are HUGE here at MSFN. Feel free to ask a moderator if they interpreted it your way or not. I myself did not.1 point

Because that is the username that this person picked for himself. We have no control over that. "win32" uses that username across several web sites, "no harm, no foul". Granted, I used to not know "win32" and referred to HIM as "he/she" because of not knowing. I was "reamed" for not knowing what gender a person totally new to me "is". Happens quite often here at MSFN. roytam is one of the BIGGEST members here at MSFN. We still bump into people that don't know who roytam is. It is what it is.1 point
-
That has been pointed out before. "They" are going to do what they want. You are always welcome to discuss these types of things with a moderator. But, um, "why bother" in my opinion. MSFN has these "birds of a feather". They flock together. They troll each other to upvote/like. Even one of them used to blame other MSFN members for "rep farming" when other members behaved this way. It is what it is. Live and let live. All the rest of MSFN members see it also. And can decide for themselves what they think of it.1 point

On my part, these were not accusations, but a call for fair treatment of a person’s contribution to this or that aspect of the project in which he is involved. And if a person has not done any optimization, then there is nothing to take off his hat to here. About possible borrowing of ideas: He can do this, because he always uses IDA (the interactive disassembler with decompiler) (I also use it of course) and can see anything that is hidden from others eyes. And no one can check is it or no. He done this with the Screensaver Prevention feature for XP: when I announced this feature in my implementation on his issues tracker, He immediately provided some, but improved variant, by looking into code (I have checked this then in my IDA of cource) and he also commented my solution in readme notes for his file :)), this was like a "I see what you do, and know that you see what I do". :)) And the second question is - why would any person help the project if as a result all the glory (or honor) will go to only one? He is not Team-oriented people. And no one works in conjunction with him (I mean programmers, not other possible contributors), although he call himself LSC Corporation. And in general it’s unfair not to praise the Chromium Team then. Because it was they who all improved performance then. @Dixel, -- I have a question for you also. Why any of your posts and anywhere are upvoted/liked by this 3 people: Karla, Saxon, Draker. What is this ("karma-team" ?) ? --- And another question for All : why people should privatize common name of anything: why you call him win32 ? win32 -- is Windows subsystem name and common configuration name for projects. Nothing else. No one person can privatize/personificate this name. Its illegal. Github, for example, not allow such names : https://docs.github.com/en/site-policy/acceptable-use-policies/github-impersonation Or take assembler: you can not name the variable by name of register (EAX, EDX, etc.). its reserved. Its all may be not problem for not programmers. But why programmers should see this illegal nickname anywhere in their averyday workflow ? Or not for programmers: one person can take a often used and familiar name "chrome.dll" to associate him with Chromium ? And you will call him "chrome.dll" ? Why and WTF ?1 point
