  1. Sorry, no clue! I had been using Comodo programmes only a short time in the past. Maybe, some others here can say more about the different versions of Comodo. I used the Comodo Firewall for the longest time (some months). But all that is long time ago. So, here is my next call to all users of Comodo under Windows XP. This thread needs information about Comodo Antivirus, Comodo Internet Security and Comodo Firewall. Especially users running Windows XP in a VM or users running VMs in general might test some of the last compatible versions and report here. That would be very helpful as I cannot test all software by myself. And here is what I know about the last compatible versions which had been running error-free: Comodo Antivirus 12.0.0.6818 Comodo Internet Security 12.0.0.6818 Comodo Firewall 8.4.0.5165 Now, we need confirmations and information by testing these versions and maybe others.

  2. That one I don't like due to the childish looking UI with those big, bright buttons, by any chance, dear @AstroSkipper, do you know what was the last version without it? Thank you.

  3. I find it strange, I think D.Draker already posted an ungoogled patch somewhere. What if you simply try to edit out the navigator property navigator.userAgentData? It's the one responsible. Look for it in chrome.dll.

  4. It seems to be a pattern. Looks like AI bot reposter simply takes random pics from the old era dating websites. Look at the pic, no woman would use that severely outdated makeup and style. The photo is at least over 15 years old (quality, size, style), and that poor soul is pushing 60s now, someone's granny, or maybe even dead (hope not). Spam in about me section, as usual. https://msfn.org/board/profile/441359-ross-perry/

  6. SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition works absolutely fine here. No issues. No DLL problems. I can access all features. I think your system is the causer. You can alternatively try the installer version 10.0.1250 as this version was the one before incompatibilities with the programme appeared the first time. BTW, I have been using SUPERAntiSpyware since 2007 without any serious issues. So, please check your system first before posting issues one can't confirm!

  7. I still have Comodo Firewall without Geek Buddy, without Antivirus, it's on my old Siemens laptop with Geforce 6600 mobile and Core Duo T7200. Sadly, I can't attest to any of these precise versions, the reason - they are too new to my taste. Overall , Comodo 5.xxxx and 6xxxx. has a glitch, when too many IPs are added, it may say "oops, we've encountered a bug", and it quits, all until you reboot. Hope this helps.

  10. http://sweetlow.orgfree.com/download/esdi_506.zip Patches for ESDI_506.PDR from Windows 98SE [98SE] / RLoew's Terabyte Plus Pack 2.1 [TBP2.1]. Fixes: 1. [TBP2.1 - BigHDD] Handles drives with LBA48 support using algorithm from Windows NT: LBA48 commands are only used for drives that really need them, i.e. >= 128GiB, for drives < 128GiB LBA28 is used. Needed as work-around the rare situation of badly functioning hardware that reports support for LBA48 commands, but in reality does not process them. 2. [TBP2.1 - SATA] Interrupt handler: - Based on code from RLoew's TBP3.0. - For dedicated interrupts (Legacy ATA controllers) the code is completely identical in behavior to the original one (no unnecessary access to ports). - DMA error flag is preserved, only the Interrupt flag is reset. 3. [TBP2.1 - SATA] Data synchronization with BIOS: - LBA usage is enabled for drives with LBA support without any additional checks, drives without LBA use the old (full) algorithm - rollback to PIO if DMA fails 4. [98SE] Driver retrieves shared interrupt flag not from the CONFIGMG shared interrupt flag, but from the level/front interrupt flag. The CONFIGMG incorrectly changes the shared interrupt flag for multi-function devices (which are the vast majority of standard PCI ATA controllers). 5. [98SE] Fixed minor bug of non-saving register with the value of error of command execution for drives with removable media and media status notification enabled. 6. [98SE] Changed drive characteristic flags for the default record. Additions: 1. [98SE] Added IOR_IDE_PASS_THROUGH request processing for ATAPI devices. Also this request is correctly processed for ATA devices with sector size other than 512 bytes. Allows you to execute drive identification commands and SMART commands for such drives. It is recommended to use together with updated SMARTVSD.VXD for full functionality. Fixes 2 - 6 and Addition 1 are non-specific to TBP2.1. Corollary projects updated accordingly: https://github.com/LordOfMice/Tools/blob/master/atanames.zip - Right names of ATA drives plus version of device firmware in Device Manager for Windows 9x/ME http://sweetlow.orgfree.com/download/smartvsd.zip Patches for SMARTVSD.VXD - works for any combination of ATA channels and devices on these channels and more

  11. Although the whole conversation has actually become off-topic, I do not agree with your statement "Only if you don't tweak and optimize!". You can't redesign the whole OS. Tweaking and optimizing has nothing to do with the fact that the basic design of Windows 10, and more worse Windows 11, is crap. And I am not interested in modifying, tweaking and optimizing such crap. End of story.

  12. Yep. That and the fact that they're phoning home as if there was no tomorrow with lots of telemetry (and don't even get me started on the new Microsoft Recall spyware I mean "feature"). If we add to that the new CPU requirements, mandatory TPM 2.0, secure boot, UEFI and - on Professional/Enterprise editions - mandatory full disk encryption with Bitlocker, it just makes you not want to use Windows 11. On top of it, using Win11 on anything other than an SSD makes everything stutter. As for the new UI, I just hate the fact that they redesigned the whole explorer.exe, the fact they almost entirely killed the old Control Panel by moving (almost) everything to the new dumbed down settings menu, the new dumbed down right click etc... Why Microsoft, why...?

  15. Agreed. I do applaud the discussion of alternatives. One size will never fit all. Currently, my Intel Atom (single core) and my Intel Core 2 Quad (4 cores, "unthreaded") computers perform best with uBO v1.26.2 for everything that I have tried on them. With identical lists however, my Core i7 (4 cores, 8 threads) would leak YouTube ads! My Core i7 computers are currently using AdNauseam v3.21.4 (forked from uBO) and have yet to ever leak an ad on YouTube. Despite AdNauseam being my best performer on my Core i7 (not even so much as a split-second visual "flash" of the ad being blocked!), when I run the same exact extension with the same exact lists on my Core 2 Quad, it will not block any YouTube ads! Both running Win10 Ungoogled Chromium v94. But uBO will show a split-second visual "flash" of the ad being blocked. One size will never fit all.

  16. @genieautravail BTW, I tested the SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition last night. The installation worked without any problems. Also the update of the programme to version 10.0.1266 and the update of the signatures database. Additionally, I carried out a function check. Everything ran as it should. TBH, I have no idea what's going on in your Windows XP system. But one thing is clear. Your hasty conclusions are simply wrong. And this is unfortunately not the first time.

  17. You're welcome. Finding download links was no problem, but the constant testing is annoying. Anyway! Thanks for reporting the XP incompatibility of the more recent SUPERAntiSpyware installers! One thing has once again become clear. The incompatibility of an installer does not necessarily mean that the programme itself is also incompatible.

  18. The last Windows XP compatible installer of SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition is the version 10.0.1254. Install it and use the internal updater! Then you will get the latest version 10.0.1266. Here is a screenshot: And here is the download link for the installer: https://download.filepuma.com/files/spyware-removers/superantispyware/SuperAntiSpyware_v10.0.1254.exe. Accordingly, I have updated my article. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  19. Another Supermium 124 release made it to the GitHub Releases Section: https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/releases/tag/v124 Though it is still labelled as "Pre-release", the author claims it's "the main release of Supermium 124"; among the Release Notes: The distributions bundle (official) progwrp.dll-v1.1.0.5018 ; and before any member of the known "family" asks anew, no, the "not-possible-to-disable-the-CH-API-on-Sm122+" issue hasn't yet been addressed (else, it would surely have been mentioned inside the Release Notes ) ... Kind regards to all ...

  20. @genieautravail My advice to you is to find the last XP-compatible installer of SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition and install the programme. Then try to update the programme using the internal updater.

  21. Personally, I am using the Professional X Edition which is working fine under Windows XP. I have installed the latest verson 10.0.1266 on my Windows XP machine (via the internal updater). Look at my screenshots! However, I didn't try the Free Edition. I thought it was also XP-compatible, especially if the Professional X edition is still XP-compatible. But first, try an older installer version from here: https://www.filepuma.com/download/superantispyware-17/versions/ I would try the version SUPERAntiSpyware 10.0.1250 first as I had compatibility problems with the version 10.0.1252 I already reported here. Maybe, only the installer of the more recent versions is no longer XP-compatible.

  22. One entry of my internal list of security programmes is Comodo. I already wrote about Comodo Antivirus in the old antivirus thread: https://msfn.org/board/topic/177099-which-antiviruses-are-known-for-a-fact-to-be-working-on-xp-sp3-as-of-2019/?do=findComment&comment=1241826 https://msfn.org/board/topic/177099-which-antiviruses-are-known-for-a-fact-to-be-working-on-xp-sp3-as-of-2019/?do=findComment&comment=1241854 Is anyone here who has been using Comodo Antivirus or Comodo Internet Security under Windows XP in the last time? I need information, user experiences and test results together with the name and the number of the used version. It is particularly important how up-to-date these versions still are with regard to programme and virus definitions updates. It would also be interesting to know whether the programmes for Windows XP that are still advertised on the Comodo websites are actually XP-compatible and still work today. Here is a link: https://antivirus.comodo.com/security/windows-xp-free-antivirus.php In any case, my research from last year revealed that the last error-free, XP-compatible release of Comodo Antivirus was the version 12.0.0.6818. However, I don't know whether it is still working today or not. BTW, Comodo Firewall will also be looked at. But only at a later date.

  23. Regarding SUPERAntiSpyware I forgot to mention two additional facts in my article. First, it was certified by AppEsteem in 2023. Here is a quotation from SUPERAntiSpyware's homepage: And another interesting fact is that SUPERAntiSpyware has been added to VirusTotal's scan engines (I don't know when this exactly happened). I will add these facts to my article later as they may be helpful for potential users in their decision whether to trust this software or not. Especially for those who have never heard of it or never used it before.

  24. One need to look at Direct 3D Feature level, it's the only one true parameter. "D3D 12 API" is a set of software emulations, meaning it could, in theory, run that game, but the FPS would be just terrible. Win 10 x64 can emulate in soft mode, hence the screenshot. By the screenshot one can also see how the drivers and cards became brighter with years. Washed out colours.

  30. I am not a Russian or associated, so this is of no concern to me. There is good Russian stuff and there is bad Russian stuff, it's your personal decision to choose between good and bad. For me, for example, the Russian https://www.yandex.com is the best search engine for software, even if it couldn't find an instance of my ancient version of Kaspersky.

  31. One man's opinion. I disagree, however. No non-Western antivirus suggested. Kaspersky seems to be the only good non-Western antivirus, although I haven't tried Dr.Web https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr.Web Kaspersky could be installed on a dedicated virus-checking computer, always off-line except for getting updates. No risk and no WinXP requirement.

  32. "1979" was added by you. From the context it is clear that dmiranda did not refer to the Soviet invasion of 1979, but to the American invasion of 2001. Also, in 1979 there could not have been a project "Kaspersky" in the plans in Russia, whatever that means. 1979 was the year CP/M 2.2 came out for 8-bit computers, if I remember right, no 16-bit PCs, no MS-DOS, no viruses. "November [1983]: The term "virus" is re-coined by [the American] Frederick B. Cohen in describing self-replicating computer programs". Before 1983: invented by Americans and popularized in science fiction novels by American writers, but no Russian plans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_computer_viruses_and_worms

  33. The space used by my ancient version of Kaspersky, when updated with current signatures, jumps from about 100MB to 1.2GB, with 13,000 additional files. This is an issue because it would really bloat the size of my frequent partition backups, which I have kept since about 2008. My regular partition backups, to avoid bloated backups, contain only the small ancient version of Kaspersky with about 100MB. The signature updates are stored and archived separately in a "distribution folder". The distribution folder is a nice feature because it is possible to update different computers, e.g. from the initial Pentium to i7, offline from a single signature download. Whenever my ancient version is set to effective EOL [=cannot be updated from the server anymore], one can still make a fresh install on another computer and update from this distribution folder.

  34. No, but I'm 100% certain that company selling software to the Department of Defense are vetted inside out by the NSA and have a tight cooperation with them. That's way above my level but I guess most AV/security programs are fiddling with files and has its own kerneldriver to protect its own files and hook into other files including system files.

  35. You can't compare McAfee for the masses with the Enterprise version, it's like night and day. Light on resources, let's see what NHTPG has to say. Once upon a time this old Thinkpad was part of a company domain. It was a spare computer we kept in a safe and when the company upgraded to WIN7 it wasn't on the list since it was decided that 4GB RAM was the minimum for WIN7. Our global IT department never asked for it so after about a year in the safe it "disappeared"... You're partially correct about updating, when I removed it from the AD and made it a workgroup computer it couldn't connect to any of the ePO servers. It was a hardcoded list of servers BUT one of McAfees ePO servers was also on the list so it was still able to update the engine/databases but not upgrade the software. That worked until Intel bought McAfee 2010 and changed things but you were still able to manually download the databases. Then STG bought the Enterprise part of McAfee 2021 and Trellix is part of STG. You're still able to download the databases for this old version, believe it or not... https://www.trellix.com/downloads/security-updates/ https://www.techspot.com/downloads/151-mcafee-superdat-update.html https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/mcafee_virus_superdat_definitions.html Spelling errors are my own and may be distributed under the GNU General Public License.
