  1. I have updated my self-created, offline Root Certificate Updaters in the section 11.2.4. Downloads related to Root Certificate Updates (in the first post of this thread). I have created the offline Root Certificate Updaters both from 27.02.2024 and the current ones from 26.03.2024 and added the links to my article. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  2. Forgive me for such a simple explanation, I'm sure you know that already, *cat files are issued by drivers manufacturers, and Windows needs to run them by the MS Authority certs to make sure they are the legit WHQL ones. That's how it works. EDIT (how to make your own *cat): https://superuser.com/questions/515653/how-can-i-create-security-catalog-cat-file

  3. People reported success by re-registering these dlls: softpub.dll, wintrust.dll, initpki.dll, dssenh.dll, rsaenh.dll, gpkcsp.dll, sccbase.dll, slbcsp.dll, mssip32.dll, cryptdlg.dll And reboot, of course, to apply changes.

  4. Thanks! People had been doing that for decades! Of course it's always a risk, warnings are everywhere, including the dedicated topics about the flashing (the only place where one can obtain a modded bios). "the 8600GTS I flashed for him to the Quadro performed a lot better than the 8600GTS before the flash" https://www.overclock.net/threads/8600gt-flash-to-quadro-fx-1700.355437/ Flashing old (only very old generations!) of cards to Quadro is no "lie". Why only old? Because later nVidia made moves against it and issued a physical block. (need to solder some resistors off) Considering the current price of 5 bucks , in my opinion, the risk is worth it.

  8. I changed the image links in my article about Pref Toggler due to access problems caused by the image hoster I use. BTW, if you may wonder where the user-selected preferences are stored, it's in a preference of Pref toggler in about.config called extensions.custombuttons.PrefToggler.prefList. I will also add this information to my article.

  11. You're welcome, Dave, those were needed for XP/Vista when the prompt about unsigned HD drivers (Intel) was driving people nuts. Some even used that Authority to install Net framework 4.0 or updates. It's a basic, important set of MS certs. Probably yours were damaged, leading to that annoying prompt. Anyways, it won't hurt your system. The link is official. Needs to run as admin.

SQLite Manager - An extension to manage any SQLite database inside the browser The extension SQLite Manager can manage all sqlite files inside New Moon, Serpent, Pale Moon and other browsers, even those sqlite files which belong to the browser itself. With SQLite Manager, you can view all entries, add new ones, edit or delete old ones inside those sqlite files. Here is a quotation with all offerred features from its homepage: The last version is SQLite Manager 0.8.3.1 from 2015 which can be downloaded from the Classic Add-ons Archive or from here: https://github.com/lazierthanthou/sqlite-manager/releases Some screenshots: An alternative is SQLite Admin 1.1, a fork of SQLite Manager for UXP applications, recommended by @billmcct in this post: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183923-extensions-and-custom-buttons-for-uxp-browsers-corrections-modifications-adjustments-and-special-recommendations/?do=findComment&comment=1262553 You can get this extension here: https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/sqlite-admin/ Cheers, AstroSkipper

  15. How do I translate StartIsBack? Start with sample which contains latest strings: http://startisback.com/langs/RU-RU.txt (StartIsBack) https://www.startallback.com/langs/RU-RU.txt (StartAllBack) (there are other languages on server but only Russian is the latest; if you're skilled you can extract language file from StartIsBackCfg.exe) How do I test my translation? Put your file, named appropriately with you language code (ES-ES.txt, ZH-TW.txt, SR-LATN-CS.txt, etc.) into StartIsBack folder, alongside with StartIsBackCfg.exe; you have use this language as your system primary one. What to do later? Send me an e-mail or publish your file here. What do I get? You'll receive StartIsBack license for free. That is also true if you provide a better / fuller translation than StartIsBack contains.

  16. Dark Magic technology preview has debuted in 3.6.6 This technology will bring StartAllBack improvements to other apps in the system. Or not if this cases trouble. Experiment #1 - acrylic menus and mica menu bars. More to come Use 'startisbackcfg /magic' command to enable or disable. Known caveats: - Elevated applications are handled only if you're admin and install for all users - No settings, you have to restart I'm interested in compatibility issues. [Not applied and not broken is fine for custom menus apps]

  17. @pappyN4 Hi, thanks for the advice, but formatting the GPT disk in XP -> Disk Management did not work: even in this case, the first file copied on the disk immediately became corrupted as soon as the 2.2 TB limit was reached. But unlike what happened in my previous tests performed on a GPT disk initialized by the manufacturer and with other disks initialized by me in Win10, after completing the copy operations and rebooting the system, connecting the disk to the same internal sata port, all the files are now disappeared. As can be seen from the following image, the disk is now seen as both GPT and MBR and also all operations that should be allowed on the partition are now greyed out: The same happens by plugging the disk in Win10. For the other GPT disks tested previously, however, files under the 2.2TB limit still remained visible and fully available in XP. At the moment the possibility of using a GPT disk greater than 2TB in XP seems to be impossible to achieve The only way to be able to use a disk larger than 2TB remains to initialize the drive in MBR style by using the WD Quick Formatter utility, even if only for the external drives.

  20. Thanks, where would we be without NirSoft! This does beg the question though, how do files get unregistered in the first place?!
    1 point
  21. Re-registering of dll files is a very safe and in a lot of cases successful method in Windows XP to fix errors of whatever kind. I use different tools for that. One is the Nirsoft tool RegDllView for doing that in a more convenient way: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/registered_dll_view.html It offers additional, useful features. All is descibed on its homepage. Another nice, small tool to register or unregister dll files or ActiveX controls is Register Tool: https://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Registry-Tweak/Register-Tool.shtml

  23. The files in the driver dir that are oem*.* (inf and cat) are actually generated by Windows when a driver is installed. It copies the inf and cat from the install source and renames them and puts them in there. As such the numbers are not going to match up between systems.

  37. No, you don't. DXVA2 is natively supported, You can combine it with CUDA, of course. H264 plays fine with DXVA2 up to 1080p. For H264 2160p or H265 8 bit you need to add CUDA to the mix*. *If your CPU is weak.
