Actual time maybe off - due to glitches in my browser. (But in any case - 9 hours later than your post). https://msfn.org/board/topic/184730-antimalware-firewall-and-other-security-programs-for-windows-xp-working-in-2023-and-hopefully-beyond/?do=findComment&comment=1244656 In any case, fellas , I don't want to play ball. I said what I said, and nothing else to add. The AV works fine. If my GF sees it works bad, I'll notify you ASAP. Take care and Regards.3 points

I've never had any issues with just using the Russian Repack loader for 360Chrome (accompanied by a heavily customized .ini). I only use the winPenPack loader for Ungoogled Chromium v114. It technically has only ever been people that don't even use this browser that "cast aspersions" upon the loader. That type of "assistance" should always be taken with a grain of salt.2 points

Of course Vir.IT eXplorer (calling by the name) runs on XP ! The Antivirus engine is of their own Italian development (no russkies involved) ! My GF (girlfriend) currently runs it on her cheap/outdated PC (Pentium G with only 8GB of the ancient DDR3 RAM , DDR3 is from 2007). 2 - Very easy on PC resources !The product is VB100 certified. All tests passed: https://www.virusbulletin.com/vb100/testing/tgsoft/vir-it-explorer-pro PS. Sorry to hear you're tired ! Get well soon! The German WinHex has all needed tools for recovery. And which original Western software DMDE's based on ? I'm not that naive to trust they develop something of their own.2 points

... Problems with the "userstyles.org" portal and UXP-based browsers have been well documented here, especially since the site adopted its new "atrocious" web design... At the end of December 2023, things have gotten really dire ... In latest NM28 [v28.10.7a1 (32-bit) (2023-12-21)], trying to simply load: https://userstyles.org/ will get you nowhere ; Web Console prints: The resource from “https://userstyles.org/” was blocked due to MIME type mismatch (X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff). Creating a SSUAO with the passe-partout value of just "Chrome" will get you in... general.useragent.override.userstyles.org;Chrome ... But... Selecting a specific userstyle, e.g. https://userstyles.org/styles/95033/youtube-nyan-cat-progress-bar-video-player-theme will bring a popup window; we already know from the past that the "Install Style" button there simply does nothing, even if you have a style manager already installed; it appears that button ONLY works when the "Stylish" Chrome extension is installed (on a Chromium-based browser, of course...). Some months ago, it was still possible to get the actual CSS code for the userstyle itself by scrolling down the popup window and clicking on the "SHOW CSS" area; however, currently, this procedure would only generate an EMPTY black overlay, devoid of the sought for CSS code : @AstroSkipper, can you kindly check if you can reproduce ? If I can't grab any CSS code anymore from "userstyles.org", it's totally useless now for me in the context of St52/St55/NM28 ... To add insult to injury, specific userstyle pages no longer load even in 360EEv13.x/Kafan MiniBrowser: Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information). Don't have Mypal68 here - I doubt it would work, either... Damn those web-frameworks targeting exclusively last week's Chrome release...1 point

What happens if you change the format to English UK? Don't forget to reboot to apply.1 point

@Atari800XL I don't get any error message from Setup, if WinRe.wim is deleted. (at least not from 22631.2861.231204-0538.23H2_NI_RELEASE_SVC_REFRESH_CLIENTBUSINESS_VOL_x64FRE esd files) BTW: if I also delete the ReAgent.xml there is no error in the log file, only warning. @Antonino Lines beginning with ; or # are ignored and reserved for comments. You can also rename all the *.txt files inside Remove folder to *.ini. This should give comments a different color depending on the Editor you use.1 point

I get the identical date (the "correct" date) in Mypal 68, 360Chrome, Serpent 52, and Ungoogled Chromium v114.1 point

But of course such hard settings break the functionality of many websites. That's why I usually prefer other settings.1 point

It is something that our ancestors have nothing to relate to. I'm sure there are a lot of people in the 90s that didn't think that the internet would last this long.1 point

According to Microsoft, "The GUID Partition Table (GPT) was introduced as part of the UEFI Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) initiative." And Microsoft suggests to learn about it. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/windows-and-gpt-faq?view=windows-111 point

Yes there is! Why would I tell, if it din't allow me to choose this option?!!??! See for yourself! https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/select-boot-device-on-uefi-bios/ My MOBO allows me to select the booting device 1st optioin: "UEFI HDD" 2nd option: just "HDD" 3rd option and up to 10 or so, allows to select other UEFI or non-UEFI devices. Motherboard model: Biostar KabyLake H110MHV3 https://motherboarddb.com/motherboards/594/ So, like I wrote, I switched everything to "normal", and finally was able to install Windows 7! I hadn't tried Vista on that board.1 point
-
I myself have a KabyLake board, made in 2017-2018, I was able to use Windows 7 only after I changed from UEFI HDD to normal HDD and disabled all UEFI features that were shown in BIOS, including the GOP. UEFI 2.3.1 on paper, in theory yes, the question is, what people really want, it might be too hard to achieve, or nearly impossible with most of motherboards made after 2014. I haven't tried Vista on that kabylake mobo, but with the Haswell gen., it worked fine, but then again, Haswell is 2013, and the OP didn't tell us anything about his mobo.1 point

Yes! They surely implemented limitations in with Windows 7, with Vista one would have more success. Only Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10 can boot in real UEFI mode. Windows 7 doesn't even support the new UEFI GOP (Graphics Output Protocol) https://superuser.com/questions/1172089/can-only-install-windows-7-in-uefi-legacy-mode https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2828074/windows-7-setup-hangs-at-starting-windows-on-surface-pro1 point

Did you do the tests yourself ? Do you always trust what they write in the papers ? Whom that testing website belongs to ? Where do they have their headquarters ? Ivan's bedroom ? We still shall continue to support our Italian friends, we are doing it for centuries, I mostly buy Italian clothes for almost half of a century already. She bought the PRO version of Vir.IT eXplorer for her weak PC. That having been said, I'm leaving, and leaving you with Mina7869 and legacysan, perhaps it's too cruel, sorry, I have no control over it. And I wish you a speedy recovery from your tiredness. I know a good Italian vitamins. Kind regards, D.Draker.1 point

Thank you for your kind words! But only very slightly above the minimum. A detection rate of 77.40% is unfortunately quite poor. That's why Vir.IT eXplorer only achieved the lowest grade D. For me, simply too low. IMHO, Vir.IT eXplorer is therefore just an option for Windows XP if there is no better one, but not more. But luckily, there are still better ones available.1 point

Structure of this thread You might get the idea that this thread will also become confusing if it continues to grow, but that is not the case. I created it in such a way that you can quickly get to the most important information by regularly checking the second, third and fourth post. In particular, the list in the second post contains all the links to the programs presented here. So checking there at regular intervals is a very good, primary strategy. Additionally, we have a forum search function to check this topic for relevant information as we always should do, of course. And I totally forgot to mention, you should have read the first post of this thread at least once. That's it! Greetimgs, AstroSkipper1 point

Of course, I know that but I was interested whether it is well-known or popular in your country or not. That this does not mean anything regarding the quality of a program is totally clear. Or did you seriously think that this could be a decision criterion for me? Nevertheless, I just wanted to know that from a native person because I never heard of Vir.IT eXplorer before, and I assume most of us never heard of it, either. Therefore, I wonder who is using this program at all, especially a program with such a modest detection rate.1 point

Thank you for providing information! In the VB100 test report from 21.04.2023, Vir.IT eXplorer just about passed their test with a detection rate of 77.40% (at least 75.00% was required). Unfortunately, that is definitely not marvellous. Is this program well known or popular in Italy? In Germany, it is totally unknown and never mentioned in terms of available antimalware programs.1 point

Thanks but once again! I know the homepage of Vir.IT eXplorer which was already linked by me here: Quotes from or links to the homepage don't help me at all. What I need is real data based on experiences made by people who really use or have used it a longer time. Or links to trustworthy reviews. Or opinions from members knowing interesting or helpful facts about that program. A short test in a VM is rather meaningless! Anyway! Vir.IT eXplorer is an unknown candidate and therefore problematic.1 point

Sorry for that! I overlooked your request. I am very tired the last days. So, is that your *important* question? Why should "it" be at the first place? I don't understand this statement at all. And why don't you call "it" by its name? If someone reads your comment, one will not understand what you are talking about. The program you are probably referring to is called Vir.IT eXplorer. I can't find any detailed data of you regarding this program, though. Only that: https://msfn.org/board/topic/177099-which-antiviruses-are-known-for-a-fact-to-be-working-on-xp-sp3-as-of-2019/?do=findComment&comment=1242782 Unfortunately, I can't do anything with that. What did you test in detail regarding Vir.IT eXplorer? Which version have you installed? Does it have a background guard? Is it really XP-compatible? What about resource consumption in detail? At what intervals are the virus definitions updated? What are the features? What versions do exist and what are the differences? Is it free of charge? And what exactly about this program is marvellous? You see I prefer evaluable, meaningful data based on own experiences. Or links to detailed, trustworthy reviews. I am a mathematician. I need usable, informative and evaluable data. Kind regards, AstroSkipper PS: The current status of Vir.IT eXplorer in this thread can be found here:1 point

I always have the same concerns about software, regardless of whether it originates in Germany, France, Italy, USA, China, India or whatever country. There are good and bad developers, companies that can be trusted more or less, governments that do or do not influence, and so on. At the end of the day, these discussions do not serve any purpose here. This thread is meant to list all available security programs that are still compatible with Windows XP and to spread information about them. Therefore, I would ask you at this point to keep this thread clean, to stop discussions about concerns regarding the country of origin and to contribute something substantive when commenting. I need information, results of testing, recommendations, experiences made in terms of already listed or yet to be listed programs, and further options for Windows XP. My time and resources are limited. So please, be constructive and let's not inflate this thread with unnecessary discussions ! In the end, from all the options listed, the mature readers can decide for themselves which software to trust or not. And I cannot and will not take this personal responsibility away from anyone. Thanks in advance! Kind regards, AstroSkipper1 point

You don't have to because, if I remember correctly, you abandoned Windows XP in 2007. But Windows XP enthusiasts like me have to adapt to the circumstances, whether you like it or not. And as for Chinese software, there are good and correct developers there too, but also black sheep. Just like everywhere else. BTW, I don't think it was meant as a warning but an additional information that presumably most of us already know, though.1 point
