All horses back! The download manager in Opera on my Android tablet shows a wrong file size. Now, I am back at my desktop computer, and the file size of FREEAV.exe matches nearly the one you posted: 93181864 B (88.9 MB). I already corrected my posts. So this time, we seem to get the same offline installer regardless of our location. Kindest regards, AstroSkipper3 points

The banner should read: Got Panda running on XP x64 That is fantastic. Well done. I could never have done that, and I have never heard of the Application Verifier program. It looks like a program for programmers. I had a quick look and there is a lot of reading: Application Verifier is a runtime verification tool for unmanaged code that assists in finding subtle programming errors, security issues and limited user account privilege problems that can be difficult to identify with normal application testing techniques. Link to full Summary and Overview of Application Verifier I'll study what you have done and will try and give it a go when I have more time on the weekend. Panda Security should offer you a job. :-)2 points

Greetings all, I don't remember if I have 348.12, but I'm sure I have 348.40, shall send when I return.2 points

I can remember very well. I checked my provided link some minutes before posting and the file FREEAV.exe has indeed the size of 93 88.9 MB. It seems to depend on the country from which you access the link. You know the proof is in the pudding. So, you can try to access the link with a German IP via VPN to check if the file size changes. I'll try to download the file with a Hellenic IP.2 points

Got Panda running on XP x64, you will need to install Application Verifier 4.0. And .NET Framework 4.0 too of course if you don't have it yet, the antivirus' management interface uses it. If you don't update the framework fully, might be a good idea to at least have KB2600211 as well to have some bugs of initial release fixed. Run Application Verifier (from Application Verifier folder in Programs folder). File->Add Application, you don't have to browse to any actual file, just type Stub.exe in the File name field and confirm. Repeat the process for Setup.exe. Edit both entries like so, you don't need Basics, so uncheck it, then check HighVersionLie under Compatibility. Right-click on HighVersionLie->Properties, here you need to put in Windows Vista's info (crazy, I know, it's also funny that MS's own online installer for .NET Framework 4.0 tries to download an update for Windows Vista when executed on XP x64). I was going off MS documentation really quick, so maybe some flag is missing in that Suite mask field, but it'll work for this, I only list fields I changed: Major version: 6 Build number: 6003 Service pack major: 2 Suite mask: 512 Product type: 1 CSD version: Service Pack 2 Save the changes, run the Panda installer (the official installer pulls the latest version from http://acs.pandasoftware.com/Panda/FREEAV/Promo_pd/FREEAV.exe (thanks @VistaLover), this was version 22.01.01 when this post was revised). First time around, before revising this post, the older 22.00.01 was tried from Major Geeks, there were some trouble with it and it refused to work properly next day. I only changed (checked) Offline installation option during setup. After installation is complete, delete entries from Application Verifier and save.2 points

There is a big difference whether there is an official warning, such as that from the BSI, for a programme or not. Such official warnings do not exist for Malwarebytes, Panda and AVG, but they do for Kaspersky. Any turning off features changes nothing at all. TBH, such an official warning says it all. And finally stop with your anti- and pro-categories in this thread! That has no place here.2 points

Please provide fact checked articles to support your claims. There's a huge difference between reporting to "home" (company) and directly to security services. So don't mix all in one bag. Did you read the article? Or you just saying this to supress any discussions about Kaspersky? The article shows pros and cons, a very balanced and polite article, I'd say. Light on memory on one hand, not recommended to use due to the newly checked facts - on the other. Everyone decides for himself.2 points

Yes, a very underrated OS. The last amazing OS after XP. Try Ex7ForW8 (Explorer from Windows 7 ) on it and see how the OS flies. Modern OSes (10,11...) started with 8.0... well I wrote a lot about it... I don't want to say the same again, but I'm happy to see when people appreciate this nice OS and I hope we have a good KernelEx for it one day.2 points

TBH, I do not use 10 years old, unsupported browsers at all. And that wouldn't make sense either , at least as long there are more recent ones which is the case under Windows XP. Your statement was: I replied: New Moon 28 is an old, legacy browser but still updated, thanks to @roytam1. And there is no problem to access your linked website https://web.archive.org/web/20140701122330/http://lights.helloenjoy.com/. As I already stated, it is a problem of defining what an old web browser is. So, if I take you literally, then your statement is not correct. The website web.archive.org works in old browsers to view archived web sites. The proof is here: Kind regards, AstroSkipper1 point

Dear Astro , we had the same discussion in the past, without any conclusive result ; the link you re-posted just now, http://acs.pandasoftware.com/Panda/FREEAV/193309/FREEAV.exe , is still valid, I just tried it mere seconds ago, but from my location it just fetches the exact same binary (sized 88.9 MiB, not 93) as the link I posted in my previous post, http://acs.pandasoftware.com/Panda/FREEAV/Promo_pd/FREEAV.exe , with the exact (dual, i.e. SHA1+SHA2) digital sig of 2023/09/17 ! In any case, "the more the better" , interested MSFN members can try both for themselves! Kindest regards ...1 point

@tekkaman This thread is exclusively about security programmes for Windows XP . Therefore, your observation or problem is unfortunately off-topic. You should post it in the Windows 7 forum. BTW, I had no problem to install Panda Antivirus Free in the version 22.00.01 under Windows XP. And the installer didn't want me to install .NET Framework 4 either, presumably because my Windows XP was and is fully updated. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

It's again off-topic and has no relation to the German Mastodon and/or Twitter, which is the topic here. I'm asking you once again, please stop off-topic, don't derail the thread. Thnx1 point

I totally agree with your statement. The headline of this topic is crystal clear. Promoting Kaspersky in each and every thread, which has nothing to do with security programmes, is definitely off-topic, propagandistic, annoying, and embarrassing. The desperation must already be pretty great when someone feels compelled to do something like this. The motivation for such behaviour is of course clear, but we leave that to the reader's imagination.1 point

You can read a lot somewhere, and rumors are ten a penny. AFAIAA, @feodor2 posted the link to the nightly build himself (under his GitHub account). Anyway! I hope he is well and unharmed. Best wishes from here!1 point
-
I tested this nightly build of Mypal 68.13.0 with some websites which caused problems in Mypal 68.12.5b. The assets on GitHub are loading again. MEGA is working, too. And, the online dictionary LEO also seems to be fixed. Unfortunately, VirusTotal stopped working completely in Mypal 68.13.0b. Neither the main site https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload nor the reduced site https://www.virustotal.com/old-browsers/?style=bright works. On the main site, no way to upload a file. All elements in the middle of the website aren't loaded, only the outer frame. On the reduced site, the Google captcha doesn't work (endless loading).1 point
-
Why unfortunately? A zip file is great, better than an installer. You have just to copy the new files over the old ones. That's why I simply wrote installer. With this archive, you install Mypal 68.13.0b. By the way, Mypal 68 is not fully portable. The browser creates entries in the registry. Therefore, to be absolutely correct, it's a zip archive for manual installation.1 point
-
Good News! @feodor2 has just released a nightly build of Mypal 68.13.0. It's not beta or final, presumably less stable, but is supposed to have a much more up-to-date JS engine. Here is a link to the issue on GitHub: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues/160 and the direct download link of the release: https://mega.nz/file/FfhCVaZJ#7Yt5Ai8lAz-KeGXBiNnfFcS61-5YVdztKxlPYdq7ZZg I am so glad to see progress in development of Mypal 68 despite the difficult circumstances. And then, an official release will come soon, presumably. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Blaming it on Chinese is narrow-minded. Any program of such complexity could be exposing bugs in the kernel space. DAVE, Opera and 360 chrome are basically the same - based on chromium and even owned by the same chinese company for ages. But if you say it's off-topic, then be it. @UCyborg, I for one had actually modded Opera (not just the "translation" thingy), and I can tell you - the similaraties with all chinese made browsers are astonishing, I shall not write about them here, because DAVE doesn't want me to. They usually add more crap upon the clean chrome engine (even new APIs for telemetry), so no , it's not "narrow-minded". More crap - means more chances to crash, esp. on the older OS, like XP. Blaming it on Chinese should kinda be the default option. Check what they added first, and only then - the actual chrome engine.1 point

Long time ago, my mom had got crashes with XP and Opera, when she could still use PCs (now she's very old) . But then again, Opera is chinese, so maybe the issue is the same with all chinese browsers and XP ?1 point

This is really strange because I trust this experienced user @UCyborg . He just helped me with Riva Tuner on Vista . What is their framework level ?1 point
-
Would also be very good to find a standalone version installer (or portable) of Riva tuner without MSI. I know there's one inside , but I guess not everyone will figure that out. Is there a site with various older versions ? EDIT: Your version works with Vista , thank you lots ! If I don't bother you that much , perhaps you know how to switch OFF this stupid "cannot connect to update server". Of course I blocked it with the firewall , since I can't allow it to update (obviously). Switching off the update checker in the settings doesn't help . EDIT-2 : It really shows fps count only with *some* games , but no crashes like the OP described, so older versions are still needed. EDIT-3 : Quit showing FPS at all . If I look at the main window - it's just stuck at the highest monitor refresh rate. But in the games there is no FPS counter at all. EDIT-4 : Finally got this to work with Vista ! I had to frankenstein the hell outta the both versions . So nevermind , all is OK now. Thanks again for your help.1 point
-
Thank you , appreciated , will definitely try . And the OP might have a problem with his higher version of framework , like I suggested earlier.1 point
-
Oh , that's bad . I'm kinda gamer too . Are there any other alternatives ? (please not from kaspersky or the such) , thank you.1 point
-
Version 7.3.1 works just fine with 7 and SP1 , I know there are literally millions of updates' fans here , so I installed a quick rollup update pack with all of the most popular updates "windows6.1-kb3125574-v4-x64" just for you ! And all is absolutely good with "Show in On-Screen Display" ON , "On-Screen Display support" ON too , shows FPS just fine , no glitches , nothing. Oh , and the framework is 4.5.1. Perhaps you need to remove the newer framework ? I dunno . I cannot attach screenshots 'cause my monthly limit is up. Perhaps I should try with Vista too ?1 point
-
Tell me the exact version number you're having problems with and provide with it's link . I will install Windows 7 on a spare machine and test it . Though, I do not have any modern cards to test it with . My latest card , as of now , is GTX Titan 6GB (mfg date February 2013) . I sold GTX980 recently . Perhaps it hangs up due to some conflict with newer GPUs ?1 point
