Oh, good to know! Unfortunately, Windows 10 is not relevant, so we wait while someone with Vista tests it and reports back to us. I hope it will be the one who has a huge experience with running Kaspersky daily, so we could make a fair comparison. Unfortunately, I'm not the one with Kaspersky on my PC, but @Vistapocalypse seems like the one, at least from what he writes. What joke, jaclaz?3 points

Oh, here's an alternative to Kaspersky. "Iranian engineers have managed to develop an antivirus..." "...which can compete with foreign rivals..", "Iran introduces domestically-made antivirus...", Seeing the date, I'd say it's pretty much Vista ex-kernel compatible. Could you be a dear, try it on your Windows Vista (or XP) computer? I mean the computer where you run Kaspersky (daily). Thank you. https://malwaretips.com/threads/news-iran-introduces-domestically-made-antivirus-padvish.16793/3 points

Sounds very much like a theory, I'm eager to know, where and how could you (or anyone else) make a comparison of these completely closed source products.2 points

It's been written for a while now that there is no Win7 support, but everything installs and works without problems (so far).1 point

Yes, that would require to do all steps manually. Update BCD with bcdedit.exe: Get the %GUID% form bcdedit -store S:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD than update device and osdevice: bcdedit -store S:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD -set %GUID% device vhd=[C:]\diff.vhd bcdedit -store S:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD -set %GUID% osdevice vhd=[C:]\diff.vhd1 point

yt-dlp updated to nightly@2023.09.05 [c6ef55379]. Temporary fix for Facebook manually included for whoever uses that site. See issue #7901.1 point

360 Total Security (a full, non-pricy antivirus/security suite) works with full feature parity to windows 10 if osver.ini is set to 10 and version 1809. WPS Office (a freemium equal substitute for Microsoft Office from the same 360 chinese company including pdf) works with all nt 10.0 features in the same way, albeit with some heavy bugs, including not being able to minimize without a crash (no documents are lost due to the automatic backup), but bugs stop if osver.ini is set to nt 6.1. AI assists and AI tools work even in a 64-bit pentium 4. The 360 cloud storage works with no issues and can completely replace onedrive or google drive. Both programs work natively on vista as well but i'm not sure if with feature parity to 10.1 point

RaiseException=v4 RaiseException=>GetFileTime This is a debugging api so there might be others--use mode Windows XP Debug. I've added two RaiseException wrappers to Kexbases.26. The debug version currently displays the parameter values before passing on the call. The default version will ignore the call if it is "continuable", or call the debug version if not.1 point

Yeah, and their website is hosted on Fastly, Inc, one of the most notorious trackers. https://github.com/fastly/fastly-blocklist From what I remember, HTTPS Everywhere liked to call home on these. 151.101.0.201 151.101.64.201 151.101.128.201 151.101.192.2011 point

They have their own website, and it's currently supported, they even wrote "Included in Brave" - why? "Included in To!" - why?1 point

Guys, thank you very much for letting us know about the malware, I'll avoid it in the future!1 point

I usually suggest Universal Extractor. But in this case, to hell with it, don't risk extracting that "HTTPS Everywhere"! Who the hell knows what's inside!1 point

Wow! LOL> One super easy way to avoid being flagged/blocked as malware by Google.1 point

From my experience with old cards, (I have an old GPU Titan XP, made in 2016), anything after 45x.xx is simply bad for such old cards.1 point

I perfectly understand you always have to disagree with me, but you didn't even understand what I wrote, besides that unique fingerprint. for all desktop browsers, there was a simplification of UA, quite some time ago. So yeah, all sites, esp. those that deal with finances, will consider such UA as an extremely rare case, of course plenty of other sniffing measures will be activated. I bet it was the first time they registered someone with that unique UA, among other hundreds of thousands of their daily visitors. I'm looking forward to read when you disagree with me again, preferably in even more rude manner, it's always enjoyable to read.1 point

According to Microsoft, "The GUID Partition Table (GPT) was introduced as part of the UEFI Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) initiative." And Microsoft suggests to learn about it. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/windows-and-gpt-faq?view=windows-111 point

Officially it doesn't, I think the question was about the official support. For 116 to start, it needs to be done like this. I also saw some reports of video decoding/playback troubles. The installer of 116 is blocked for anything below Win 10. About the video and text problems, I can't confirm or deny, I don't use Firefox myself. https://www.reddit.com/r/windows7/comments/15i9dfd/firefox_116_on_windows_7/1 point

This API is there for ages, this is how both Chrome and FF generate their real UA.1 point

KeePass, one of the best password managers for Windows, was updated to the version 2.54 on 2023-06-03. It is developed in Germany, open source and therefore free to use. KeePass is still compatible with Windows XP although the system requirements listed on the KeePass download page are Windows 7 and above. For integration into browsers such as New Moon or Serpent, have a look here: Homepage: https://keepass.info/index.html Download: https://keepass.info/download.html Plugins: https://keepass.info/plugins.html Installer for Windows (2.54, not XP-compatible): https://sourceforge.net/projects/keepass/files/KeePass 2.x/2.54/KeePass-2.54-Setup.exe/download Portable (2.54, XP-compatible)): https://sourceforge.net/projects/keepass/files/KeePass 2.x/2.54/KeePass-2.54.zip/download As reported by @UCyborg, the installer version is no longer XP-compatible, but the portable version is which I am using under Windows XP.. Another great programme is still compatible with Windows XP in 2023 and receiving updates on regular base. It is Hardcopy from sw4you, a very good screenshot programme, originated in Germany. At the moment, it is available in the most recent version 2023.07.13 and, as always, free of charge. IrfanView is still compatible with Windows XP in 2023, receiving updates on regular base, and is now of the version 4.62 from 2022-12-09. IrfanView is more than a simple image viewer, free of charge, originated in Germany/Austria, and a great piece of software. I use it since the 90's of last century, starting under Windows 95. It works fine on my Windows XP computer and can open many different image formats. Homepage: https://www.irfanview.com/ Downloads: https://www.fosshub.com/IrfanView.html You should download the installer and the plugins to enjoy full functionality. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Ok! So if users can't get the current weather forecast in 360 Chrome and don't know how to get these sites to work in this browser, do not hesitate to ask our weatherman @NotHereToPlayGames. He will get the necessary information for you.1 point

That would be off-topic in any case, unfortunately.1 point

Say don't talk about BSOD, they talk about BSOD anyways ! You all born under the sign of Taurus or smth ? The usual set of users, again. In that case, care to talk about the weather, maybe ?1 point

Check your network and firewall settings! Maybe, an intervention of other security programs on your system? Or it might be a temporary server connection failure. Hello @CIACIACIACIACIACIA! Have you been able to solve your server connection problems in the meantime?1 point

And now a note especially for my German compatriots. The online webstore MediaMarkt was no longer fully functional in New Moon and Serpent. A few days ago, I posted the problem in the issues of martok's palefill: https://github.com/martok/palefill/issues/66 As always, martok did a great job and fixed the problem. Furthermore, he still added compatibility with Serpent 55. Now, you can shop again with our UXP browsers, especially in case anyone still needs Christmas presents. The new version 1.25 is already released and can be found here: https://github.com/martok/palefill/releases/tag/v1.25 Further changes and fixes have been made. The complete changelog can also be read there. Cheers, AstroSkipper PS: MediaMarkt is active in different countries, so the fix might help (presumably with minor modifications) non-Germans, too.1 point

Thanks @CIACIACIACIACIACIA! Another new version! The frequency of program updates on Legacy Update has risen sharply. A sign of active development! I already updated the link in my post: Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

@msfntor, @XPerceniol, @mina7601, @UCyborg, maybe @AstroSkipper too, as the most frequent users of this topic/section, did you notice the list of the users who are "allegedly" not happy with the way you receive your likes/upvotes ? Yep, NotHereToPlayGames is right in the sweet middle . And you put likes/upvotes on literally every word he writes. ... undivided love.... Yes, humour, of course. Looks like msfntor doesn't think in English when he reads/writes. Software translation, maybe ?1 point

If you were selfless, you would break up with her so she wouldn't waste an important part of her life time in terms of family planning on someone who wasn't really serious about her. After the age of 40 or bit more, family planning no longer really plays a role. But who is really selfless?1 point

@win32 So I finally tested the 32 bit drivers on the same PC where the 64 bit worked perfectly . I get this Error message: "Stop error code 0x0000007e … just like on the jabylake. What I tried , adding the new root certs . All the same . Also tried to replace with another functions.1 point

Why would I need anyones name ? lol . It's like in that famous Lynch's movie where the dude always says my name's Bob . Anyways , like I already wrote in the comment above. If he knows how to safely remove that portion , he is very welcome to create a proflle here and join the discussion. https://msfn.org/board/topic/183688-breakthrough-new-nvidia-drivers-ported-to-vista-tutorial/?do=findComment&comment=1221422 In the meantime , I suggest to use something like 376.99 or 377.43 or even 377.83 (this one needs a new tutorial though) , they all are very stable. (end of 2017 - early 2018) EDIT: If he wants , I can add what needs to be done with 377.83.1 point

What's there to check out ? You've already done a marvellous thing ! One can make this flag permanent and use the browser with it forever . I think it's better to investigate what causes the locale problem with the extensions . Or , as I said earlier , figure out how to force everything to use English (block other locales) . I already added this flag to the starter (with ungoogled) quite some time ago. Oh , and extensions without locales will work (I checked with chromium 86). By the way , the new files are already in the mega folder ?1 point
-
Hi , I may have some news . Yesterday I was testing ALL Opera versions with the newest Kernel (by redirection) and the last that worked with extensions was 47 , 48 didn't say anything at all , but refused to instal the extensions due the known "locale" thingy (but launched anyway) . The most interesting part , starting from 49 it began to want "ResolveLocaleName not found in KERNEL32" , does that ring a bell ? See "LocaleName" , perhaps this is what used to identify the locale ? Also , any chance to add the missing to shell32 for newer Operas ? "SHAssocEnumHandlersForProtocolByApplication" and the other one.1 point

Yeah , but how come this is not a problem for that Chinese player ? It plays HD tracks flawlesly , DTS HD MA , TrueHD and the such . I might even say the sound quality is far more superior than with most of the popular ones (commercial and "open" source) . All I want to say , I can live with this "glitchy" player as it (obviously) doesn't need anything to be replaced . I can tell how I trick it . 1 - Open the player (don't close) at this point it can play compressed DTS and AC3 only , 2 - Go to >playback devices< and choose >test supported formats< , play Dolby Digital test file , when Windows asks "did you hear the sound from your receiver?" answer yes and press ok . That's it - you can play ALL HD formats now , but only with this specific player . Somehow it hooks to it , while it is opened . So Vista is fully capable of playing HD formats without replaciing anything . I blame the Nvidia driver and/or some settings created by it. Which are easely bypassed by the Chinese player.1 point
-
Yeah , I too use a 24' CCFL 15 year old monitor and loving it very much. But DTS HD MA is ancient by modern standards and should be supported by ancient hardware, including Realtek (for examplle 2nd Generation Intel Core mobo's) , Nvidia's cards starting from GTX460 (I think, maybe even earlier). Do you remember the times when there was a small cable that we needed to attach to the motherboard's SPDIF and connect to Nvidia's DVI to bypass the digital sound. GTX 8800 definitely had this "feature" . I guess Nvidia was cutting the costs of the production so we needed to use onboard sound , later they added their own chip and it 100% supports DTS HD MA , I guess starting from 2010 or so.1 point
