  1. I guess many Windows 8.0 users wish to have IE11 and .NET Framework 4.8, and here is a way to easily install them on Windows 8.0 (PowerShell 5.1 still need the good old workaround), and it is: Just install those packages (I recommend you to do that on vanilla 8.0 without any updates, but you can install them on already fully updated copy of 8.0 (just you need to reinstall updates again or some apps will be broken such as Discord): https://gitlab.com/stdout12/adns/uploads/c7c9f583da309adfb5f7a621ff3cf218/W8_NetFx4_IE11_Prereqs.7z And then reboot, and import the reg file that I pinned to manually install .NET 4.8 like normal And proceed to install IE11 and .NET 4.8 like normal (as long as you have installed pre-requisites (and preferably updates till at least 2019) before doing that) And voila, you should have a fully working IE11 and .NET 4.8 (its security updates will install like normal too) patchwu.reg

  2. According to records I kept, the last time those LAV dlls were updated was on 25/09/2021 - the underlying FFmpeg code was v3.4.9-based : https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/lav-dll-lite-3.4.9.7z https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/lav-dll-lite-noasm-3.4.9.7z https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/lav-dll-lite-ia32-3.4.9.7z At around the same time, the ffvpx lib was also "updated" to the same FFmpeg version: https://github.com/roytam1/UXP/commit/9ab5fe7274d577527b6afb245805d9f512e91db9 so, as said by Roy, "they're almost the same thing" ; unless people here are still using the even older LAV compiles, based on FFmpeg-v3.1.1 ... https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/lav.7z https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/lav-dll-lite-mmx.7z https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/lav-dll-lite-noasm.7z FWIW, FFmpeg-n6.1 is about to be released; because the vanilla FFmpeg code does not support XP any longer (well, since v4.0+), the Roytam1 UXP browsers have to stay at above (3.4.9) outdated FFmpeg version ; I would have hoped for a more recent FFmpeg version when the browsers are launched on Vista SP2+, but it appears this is technically difficult to achieve ... "Upstream" don't suffer from such limitations, because they target Win7+, but, at the same time, they don't rely on ffvpx for those patented decoders XP lacks by default ...

  3. they're almost the same thing. (some more supporting code from mozilla are in ffvpx for shaping ffmpeg in gecko codebase, but they're unrelated to decoders)

  10. Pray tell, why? The UXP-based browsers (and St55), under XP SP3, use by default as source for patented decoders (h264/aac) the patched, built-in, ffvpx library: media.ffvpx.enabled;true What problems are you encountering with that implementation? In any case, what you want isn't possible right now; could be made possible via authoring new code, e.g. for the browser to load those LAV DLLs when ffvpx is disabled under XP; personally, if such an option were to materialise, I'd want a fully separate pref inside about:config that would completely disable the loading of those DLLs ... And, in case you were not aware already, you have another option (under XP) for patented decoders, if you don't "like" the ffvpx solution: Install the Adobe Primetime CDM, enable its own patented decoders (both for video/audio) and disable the ffvpx ones; we have a dedicated thread in MSFN (originally targeting FxESR 52 under XP, but the general idea is the same); since it's a solution via a CDM, only St52/55 can be used, NOT NM28, which, by design, lacks any EME/DRM support ... Regards.

  12. Hello, it's Saxon, not Saxxon. I don't think they make them with 1tb platters, it would be a jet, too noisy, hot and vibrating. Those what they call "high capacity" are 2TB platters. About the controller chip, I'm not sure I read all, did he say his enclosure has one or two chips? Sorry, if I missed. There are two types of enclosures. The most "evil" are with two chips.

  13. While the modern ntlite may not be the most convenient tool, people write it still can do this in Windows 10 LTSC 2019 but it's paid, not sure if it fits you. I can't give the link to the post because that site is known to store carcked software. Basically they wrote you need to go to: Components / Windows Apps / System Apps / Uncheck Windows Defender, hit Apply. Then need to go to Settings / Windows Defender / Open Windows Defender and Disable, hit Apply. There were multiple confirmations it worked in Windows 10 LTSC 2019.

  15. Hello @Dave-H! I am currently testing this out. It is clear that a more up-to-date version of OpenSSL and Cryptography will almost certainly be accompanied by bug fixes or optimisations. In my tests so far, the proxy works great and fast. I'm already in the process of integrating it into my package. At the moment, however, there is no compelling need to change. ProxyMII as such is of course not as comfortable to use. When you call it up, it is not automatically entered in the system proxy settings of IE. All has to be done manually. The handling of the ProxyMII standalone version is described in detail in the section 8 and following of my main article.

  17. First and foremost, no such address in any of that files inside that zip folder! Second, even if consider your theory, the error page page is not even activated at the moment. The browser is at an empty page, which is not "errorpage.zip". Third, I don't see such connection.

  19. Update notification! GetEmAll! has been updated and is now in the version 1.2.4 available. I mention it because the automatic update function in New Moon 28 won't offer it. For this browser, the extension has to be downloaded manually, and its compatibility has to be adjusted in the file install.rdf manually, too, such as shown here: Original: </Description> </em:localized> <em:targetApplication name="Pale Moon"> <Description em:id="{8de7fcbb-c55c-4fbe-bfc5-fc555c87dbc4}" em:minVersion="29.0" em:maxVersion="32.*"/> </em:targetApplication> Modified: </Description> </em:localized> <em:targetApplication name="Pale Moon"> <Description em:id="{8de7fcbb-c55c-4fbe-bfc5-fc555c87dbc4}" em:minVersion="28.0" em:maxVersion="32.*"/> </em:targetApplication> Here is the link: https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/getemall/ Cheers, AstroSkipper

  24. Agree, but you have no more socilal networks to talk about it freely, that's precisely what I'm talking about. Checkmate. It was exactly the same with Facebook, where they forced everyone to post cat pictures only, or be banned.

  25. Agree! And the timing they chose is obviously due to the known political reasons, which I'm not going to discuss, to quit spreading news to a wide range of people without accounts. I think they are compromised and need to be closely watched and investigated by the NSA. Looks like only one direction since 1992.

  27. All VPN does is route your IP to another location. Companies do not need IP to identify you. Also VPN was originally designed for secure corporate network access from remote locations and not for consumer markets. I know one who uses VPN on device to browse Facebook and others with Google Chrome and Windoze 10 and think he is safe from trackers and spying. Also that person pay VPN with credit card. Fingerprinting person based on IP is obsolete these days. There is lot more better ways for tracking. Also Mozilla VPN uses Mullvald but unlike Mullvald need all of your personal data to even sign up. Mullvald is only that I can somewhat recommend on VPN since wont need account, rather it setups id on signup and can pay with cash or crypto, BUT all you still do is routing your data to another server that may just log your IP and other data as well and that is why I got no VPN and recommend against.

  29. sorry just could not resist to edit it like that. "This completely false sectence has been corrected by Mozilla thinkright technology" That is what many actually think from telemetry. Also it is not needed even to improve product. You can ask feedback on project forum or anywhere else. I need give those shot on my lab before can recommend. Though I pretty much trust your word over this I want do my own testing always. do you have umatrix or ematrix? You need add following rules after that is should redirect. By default it conflicts with uMatrix.

  30. I left that since it some are too Mozilla diehards to leave that logo and bloated UI and brand behind, For those it is better to even try fix it if refuse to leave firefox. Believe or not I met too many that refused go away from Firefox no matter what. I even showed them what MITMPROXY showed and they said they got nothing to hide and did not accept any more counter arguments so I ended up fixing browser issues. Arkenfox user.js file bulk fixes most issues on FF but that is not ok for me. I personally cannot use Firefox anymore and really hate use when it is only browser loaded to workstation. I guess I am too spoiled for proper system menus, non cluttered UI and other things that I take granted on my personal workstations.

If this is find by too many people on internet I will get lot new haters. 34. I forget to link that file and good that you added to that mitigate part but I still stay behind this Mozilla had made me mad enough already. And feels pointless to even see any effort with it anymore...well librewolf was recommend by me for reason security is sorta two pipe thing to me (means it is sorta both). More simple and smaller codebase and less features increases security too. Palemoon lacks webrtc and EME for example that are commonly used on exploting along with WASM (palemoon got it on toggle setting tab and no need use about:config) and JS. On other hand memory hardening and isolation increase security but remember that Mozilla previously whitelisted some trackers so I cannot see reason for them not to add backdoor for protection for those trackers. PS. Fun to actually have some counter arguments with actual arguments. If I would say same on any other place would be eaten alive by mozilla fans

  35. Well , I have some news regarding HD audio on Vista . I have tested a ton of programs that support DTS HD MA passthrough to receiver and only one (I think Chinese) player was able to get it working for a small amount of time. The reciever confirmed that it is DTS HD MA and I definitely could hear the difference ! It was more like a glitch , when switching between files with DD 5.1 and DTS HD MA it switched to it and I was able to listen the file till the end , then it defaulted to compressed DTS again. Any ideas how to get it permanent ? Registry hacks are not working . It is definitely an artificial block . All I'm saing is that Vista's original files are capable of HD , just some setting prevents the use it. Honestly , I'm in shock . Don't any of you ,fellow members, use HD audio these days?

  36. Well , that link link that I sent , they were talking something about the browsers not being able to identify the locale . At least it seems to look like a good coincidence , didn't you hear , chromium on Vista is not able to identify the locale upon installing any extensions . Perhaps there's some truth to it ?

  37. Well, it is sad, everything seems to be ok, except this. Have you ever thought of creating portable launchers to such evil programs/games with emulating options ? By the way , any news regarding Opera ? I've tried again with the newest files , nothing happens , it just doesn't show any errors . do you know why ? By the way , chromium also doesn't work without the flag mentioned by the banned user.
