I did quite a bit of work on Antivirus/Security section. Unfortunately, the options for Vista have only dwindled over the course of 2021 and 2022 Maybe the community could help find new additions for this section? SUMMARY OF CHANGES TO THE LIST FOR OCTOBER 2, 2022: Removed Avast AntiTrack, as Windows Vista and earlier are no longer supported by the product. Removed all Bullguard products, as Bullguard was purchased by Norton in 2021 and the products are no longer sold under the Bullguard brand name. As a result, Windows Vista is no longer supported by Bullguard. Removed Comodo Cloud Antivirus, as it was discontinued and merged with Comodo Internet Security. Removed Cybergenic Shade Sandbox as it now requires Windows 10 or later, and the last version for Vista appears to be unavailable. Removed ONG status from Comodo Cloud Scanner and added version number of the final version, as the software has not been updated since 2010. Removed ONG status from Comodo Antivirus for Servers, as the software has not been updated in at least a decade (since Server 2012 is listed as the latest supported version of Windows Server for the product). Listed Comodo Free Antivirus & Comodo Internet Security v12.0.0.6870 as last version for Windows Vista (according to this support article). Removed CryptoPrevent Anti-Malware entirely, as the latest version does NOT work on Windows Vista, and no documentation exists anywhere on the end of XP/Vista support, nor is the final version available anywhere from my findings. Removed G-Data "Business Solutions" in favor of G Data Security Client, which continues to support Vista (and XP). Renamed "HouseCall" entry to HouseCall Online Scanner, as that is the only HouseCall product to still support Windows Vista. Removed Jetico Personal Firewall, as the software has not been updated since 2016 and appears to be abandoned. Removed ONG status from KeePass; listed v1.38 as the last version for Windows Vista. Removed Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit & Malwarebytes Chameleon, as the products appear to have been merged with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware within the past few years, meaning they're no longer supported on Windows Vista. Removed the information regarding Norton definition updates ending in 2021, as it appears that it continues to receive definition updates on Vista as of October 2022. Listed OSArmor 1.6.0 as the last version for Windows Vista. Removed NoVirusThanks Anti-AutoExec as it was discontinued at some point since it was added to the list. Removed NoVirusThanks SysHardener & Registry Guard/Guard service as they're no longer supported on Windows Vista and the last versions are not available online anywhere from what I can find. Removed Prey Anti-Theft as it no longer works on Vista due to missing functions and the last version appears to be unavailable (ResolveLocaleName error). Removed RogueKiller Anti-Malware as it no longer works on Vista due to missing functions and the last version appears to be unavailable (K32GetModuleInformation error). Added Sandboxie 5.33 as last version for Windows Vista. Removed SecureAPlus as it has been discontinued in favor of CatchPulse, which does not support Windows Vista. Removed "Sophos Server Protection products" entry as all Sophos software now requires Windows 7 or later. Removed ONG status from SystemShield Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware products, listed v5.0.0.136 as the last version for Windows Vista. Listed Vipre Antivirus v10.x as the last version for Windows Vista. Removed Webroot as the last version for Windows Vista cannot be found online and is not documented anywhere. The software now requires Windows 7 SP1 or later, according to the Webroot website. No trial versions are available for testing either from my findings. Fixed broken download link for Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit v5.52.2 points

OK, I've switched off the automatic DST adjustment, and set my timezone to Paris (where I've just been on holiday!) Everything looks fine, and as expected 360Chrome is now showing the correct timestamp for history entries. I'll let you know if it gets rid of the 'incorrect today' issue too, it's OK at the moment!1 point

Hello again. The instructions in the first post should work for Vista x86, but since you are running Vista x64, you need to make 2 more registry changes as mentioned here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/177994-tls-1112-and-vista-issue-no-options/?do=findComment&comment=11570101 point

Is that a "special", Business Edition of v9? ESET's knowledge base is quite straightforward for "consumer/home" edition of v9: https://support-eol.eset.com/en/termination_home.html They don't seem to make any distinction on the version of the WinOS v9 is installed on...1 point

You can certainly load them from .crx files, I've done it several times. You have to be in developer mode to see the extra buttons. It may be that just dragging the file to the extensions window may work, I can't remember.1 point

The explanation might be that the updates now require SHA-2 support edit: but see VistaLover’s post on the next page.1 point

Glad to see you’re still around, Werewolf Your additions to the list have definitely not gone unnoticed! I will add them after I’m done revising the current information on the list! Thank you so much for all your contributions over the years!1 point

Only on winpe setup, shows the aura background with the cursor and shift+f10 didn't work and language screen not show. You need to use Windows 7 WinPe to install Vista.1 point

I've found that a combo of WiseVector StopX and COMODO Firewall are overkill enough to feel safe on my end. Granted, the best antivirus is common sense, but I just like to use them to keep my bases covered. I just stick with StopX alone on XP tho, since COMODO Firewall, while very strong, couldn't update and stepped on my toes all the time. Either way, you'll be facing a very warning-heavy experience, which is fine for me because it means it'll be easier to know when something unusual is happening. (Also, I'm aware that StopX comes from China, but this doesn't bother me all that much)1 point

If Avast has been really swallowed up by Norton, then this means the soon end of any support for old Avast products. Norton was quite fast out of the AV business when official support of Windows XP was abandoned by Microsoft, so I fear bad things for the XP fan community. Besides, I never liked Norton AV products for Windows XP.1 point

Hi there! It's nice to see you again. Hope you're doing well I will be testing everything on a fully updated Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 x64 virtual machine, including all Server 2008 updates to January 2020, so it will be at build 6003. If I run into any problems, I'll have a separate VM with build 6002 to test the software to ensure the problems aren't related to build 6003. And thanks so much for the kind words, it means a lot I'll do the best I can. Working on the Antivirus/Security software section now!1 point

... Some years ago, Avast themselves had acquired Piriform and their most popular product, CCleaner; WinXP (and Vista) are now left with an EoS CCLeaner version (5.64.7577), but the current releases (targeting Win7+) have been extremely bloated by Avast, by including a bucket load of unwanted cr*pware (and telemetry) ... I get the sense Norton will continue in the same streak ... WinXP (and Vista) is currently being supported by an EoS Avast version (v18.8) so, unless Norton start "pouring" stuff via the definitions update mechanism, users of that should be "safe" ; unless, God forbid, Norton make a "managerial change of policy" and stop servicing that v18.8 with def-updates ...1 point

Maybe, it depends on the OS which is used. But, I don't think so. It is more likely that ESET abandoned updating virus databases on all editions up to and including version 9. That's the way ESET usually behaves.1 point

Off-topic: Thanks for consumption voucher from HK government, and a special offer of HKD 2020 of AMD 5800x, I got a almost free upgrade from 3700x. So there may be about 20% faster for compiling browser's source code.1 point

... Some additional info: The "stable" version 3.5.0.0 (actually some v3.5.5.46xxx, read this and this) is in reality a stub-installer (setup), packed with the InnoSetup script v6.1.0, that only runs under Win7+ : The "beta" build v3.5.5.46508b (1.92MB) is a different story; the executable has been UPX'ed to compress its filesize: It decompresses to a new filesize of 5.23MB and when that expanded file is double-clicked, it generates an all-too-familiar error : All the Windows binaries they're currently distributing have been compiled and optimised to work on NT 6.1 and higher - period.1 point

@Cixert MB alignment on XP is not in itself an issue BUT you SHOULD NOT ever use XP Disk Manager if you have logical volumes inside extended. See here: http://reboot.pro/topic/9897-vistawin7-versus-xp-partitioning-issue/ basically when doing even minor adjustments in Disk Manager (such as changing the active/boot status of a primary partition) Disk Manager checks, finds invalid and (wrongly) "corrects" (silently) some sectors offsets in the EPBR chain inside the extended partition making logical volumes in it "vanish", primary partitions are unaffected. About FAT/FAT32, the generic idea is (should be) that of "optimizing" the volume, now what "optimizing" means is up to debate, having larger cluster size implies more space "wasted" for smaller files but smaller File Allocation Tables, viceversa having the smallest possible cluster size implies having larger FAT's. MS (in their wisdom) set cluster size depending on volume size, and - strangely enough - documented the default settings (though somewhat wrongly, as there was no FAT32 in NT 3.51 and 4.0): https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/default-cluster-size-for-ntfs-fat-and-exfat-9772e6f1-e31a-00d7-e18f-73169155af95 there is a hardcoded limit in the amount of clusters in a given filesystem, so when the volume grows in size you need to make larger clusters to keep the number of clusters low enough. In theory you could make very large sized clusters with the consequence that - since the cluster is the minimal unit addressable by the filesystem - even a 1 byte file will take a whole cluster. They allowed largish clusters (up to 64 KB for FAT16) but later they went for much smaller ones (16 KB for FAT32), the reason being either that of not using too much space for small files or (more probable) to push for NTFS. The hardcoded limits are: For FAT16, 2^16-1, i.e. 65,535 in theory, a few less, depending on implementations, as some values are reserved, usually 65524 or 65526 is the actual max For FAT32, 2^28-1, i.e. 268,435,455 (yes FAT32 is actually more like FAT28 as only 28 bits are used, 4 bits are "reserved") The idea should be that the smaller size cluster is better, as long as the total amount of clusters is within the limits, but since this implies larger FAT's the overall performance of the filesystem may suffer from it, the MS defaults are a compromise of sorts, particularly for FAT32, where the number of clusters is artificially limited to around 2 millions that at 16 KB/cluster sets the (infamous) FAT32 max 32 GB size. . But each program (within these hardcoded limits) can decide to use this (or that) cluster size for a given volume size (a few allow you to choose the cluster size), then some tools may not like non-standard values, old thread where dencorso listed in detail how 6-8 million clusters may be a better compromise: https://msfn.org/board/topic/118623-clone-easily-windows-98-and-xp-in-the-same-computer/?do=findComment&comment=866527 jaclaz [1] Yes, I know these should be called GIB and KIB nowadays1 point
