  1. And one thing is totally clear. Without the efforts and support of @roytam1, @feodor2, @NotHereToPlayGames, @Humming Owl and so on, Windows XP would have been died years ago. Therefore, thanks to you all for your great work , and keep Windows XP alive as long as possible! Kind regards, AstroSkipper +

  2. Hope dies last! On my old Windows XP computer, I try to avoid crappy, cumbersome, Googlized websites generally as a form of protest, and due to my low hardware resources. If I have to access such sites, I usually open them in a browser on my Android tablet. The advantage is that mobile website versions are much more tolerable and easier to surf than desktop versions. I think your described trend will accelerate more and more, looking back the last years. Unfortunately, the users loving their Windows XP will have to accept that those websites can only be accessed by using alternatives. My personal rule: all Googlized crap should be processed by Google's OS Android and its browsers. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  6. With the upcoming End-Of-Life of Windows 8.1, Microsoft decided to annoy us with their ads regarding a Windows Upgrade to Windows 10/11. Furthermore, Microsoft announced that Windows 8.1 will not receive Extended Security Updates (ESU) like Windows 7 did. However, it's Server counterpart Server 2012/2012 R2 will receive ESU till October 2026. I'm curious if these updates could be installed on 8.1 as well, as I remember that it was possible to do so with Windows Vista and Server 2008 R1. 7. Hello, i've been recently messing with a Z690 motherboard and an Intel Alder Lake CPU Managed to get Windows 7 installed, but it was tricky, decided to try an updated Windows 7 ISO with drivers (USB3, NVMe... etc) slipstreamed and tried out, found out Intel USB3 got updated enough that current driver infs lacked the IDs for the new chipsets and didn't recorgnize it, so i had to install using from another PC with modern Intel AHCI, then carry the drive over the system after the first stage of setup. I ended forcing one of the AMD USB3 drivers with success on the system. Test machine specifications: Intel Core i7 12700K 32 GB DDR4 3200 MSI Z690-A PRO DDR4 (Budget Z690 with decent VRM, DDR4 and PS2 port) GTX 1060 3 GB 120 GB SSD (Kingston SSDNow V300) What i could get working: SATA/AHCI HDA Audio Most chipset stuff USB3 (After forcing AMD XHCI Driver), although there are issues What didn't work: Onboard LAN (unsupported Intel controller) IGP (that is expected though) Few unknown devices Untested: NVMe Known issues: USB stops working after resuming from suspend (at least with AMDXHCI driver) Single thread workloads may not allocatte in the right cores USB3 setup, first attempt: Setup after doing 1st stage setup and moving the SSD to the ADL system: After finishing setup: End results: WEI score:

  10. No, unless you have some applications which need the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). JavaScript and Java Runtime Environment are two totally different things. In a browser, you need a lot of scripts written in the language JavaScript. Almost all websites provide functionality via Javascript. Java Runtime Environment, for running Java executables, is needed very rarely in a browser. Therefore, JRE can't fix your problem.

  14. This has also happend to me, as well. You could try and enable the flag: Automatic tab discarding If enabled, tabs get automatically discarded from memory when the system memory is low. Discarded tabs are still visible on the tab strip and get reloaded when clicked on. Info about discarded tabs can be found at chrome://discards. – Mac, Windows #automatic-tab-discarding Also: "Settings">"Lab" You could tick: Automatically discard background tabs when browser uses too much RAM <--This I DO use Reminder to optimize memory when browser uses too much RAM <--This one I don't use Good luck!
