And another one from television, namely a fuzzy image of the unmistakable Luna guiding fire fighters to an emergency in St. Louis, MO, as seen on the August 19 episode of the American TV series Live Rescue: And here's a bonus sighting, one that could get me banned: What would the world do without Windows NT 5.x?5 points

Just FYI, here's the author's Web page: http://www.gerhard-schlager.at/en/projects/ctfmonremover/ Has info on what CTFMon does and whether you need it. Bottom line AIUI: you need CTFMon if you use Speech recognition Handwriting recognition Multiple keyboard layouts (e.g., for multiple languages) (Probably) Asian languages/character sets (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) If you use none of the above, might as well get rid of it! AIUI it should prevent the vulnerability, which is caused by the CTFMon.exe service not validating requests from clients. The CTFMon remover appears to replace CTFMon with a dummy program that doesn't actually handle client requests, so I'd think it can't be used to compromise your system like the "real" CTFMon can.3 points

Well, it's been working for 19 years and it's still doing its job, why should they change it? XD3 points

... And if I added the figures right, that would be a sum total of HK$7447 (for those of us in the Eurozone , it's ca. 852 Euros; in Boris's UK, it's ca. 774 GBP; and in Trump's USA, make it ca. US$950); so, as I said some weeks ago when you announced this intended purchase, quite a small fortune it is! May you get every single cent out of this high-end hardware; congratulations for your new rig ; may you long enjoy it ! Greetings from 35 Celsius northern Greece1 point

Unfortunately, for what Dave is doing - blocking a few Web sites in the hosts file, then bypassing those blocks for a particular browser - he needs a proxy server that's outside of his own PC, where it won't be affected by the hosts file. The Proxomitron might actually work, but it'd need to be on a separate system (although I suppose a VM might be made to work).1 point

Do you have the files for ProxHTTPSProxy? If not, the first thing you'll have to do is to PM @heinoganda to get his version, which he has ported to XP.1 point

I don't use any security software besides Sandboxie, so can't really recommend any particular AV. When Invincia owned SB, their recommendation was always "Windows Defender / Essentials". Now, of course, with the new owners - Sophos AV. A most likely outdated thread from the old SB forum discussing Compatible or non-compatible Antivirus / Anti-malware No more than anybody else, I'm afraid. There was news of an upcoming announcement, but that was over 2 weeks ago. Official Sandboxie Status Update [Last updated May 22nd] Not sure where you are with updates, but if your system is pre-Meltdown/Spectre updates, then an older version of SB (v.5.22?, v.5.24?) might be more compatible. Just a thought. https://www.sandboxie.com/AllVersions Could just be, as you mentioned earlier, a SB/ Avast conflict, they've had issues before.1 point

Earlier today, I was watching a Weather Network-produced segment on CBC News Network and noticed their fondness for Windows Server 2003 (R2?): It It is strange, considering that everything else on The Weather Network seems to run on 7 or 10. or at least the stuff like the touchscreen used by the on-camera personalities.1 point

Right you are! Unfortunately, it's beginning to look like you are the only MSFN member running Vista or XP who is really concerned about Roblox support - or perhaps there is simply no solution.1 point

Certainly the date for withdrawal that was first mooted turned out to be incorrect. I'm still hoping that Microsoft Update at least will be kept online while updates to things like Office 2010, which is (supposedly) compatible with XP, and still in support, are still being rolled out. I wouldn't bet on them putting up any warning though when it's pulled. They didn't for the Windows 98 version, one day it was just suddenly gone!1 point

It's mid August, and WU and MU are still working fine on Windows 2000 and XP-x64 over here, with no signs of it stopping any time soon (I'd imagine it would display a warning to the effect of, "Windows[Microsoft] Update will be shutting down soon" to give users some advance warning. I'm starting to think maybe this was just some F.U.D designed to scare off the few who are still using XP. c1 point

... And I'm so tired reading that same ol' mantra there: As if they (third party software developers) would give one nickel whether someone's setup is secure or not; what is the underlying truth inside this PR talk is that Microsoft themselves make it gradually impossible for third party software developers to target older OSes with their (M$'s) updated Windows SDKs! ... and it always comes down to that! Win7 will soon reach End of Extended Support, hence it'll also be "outdated and unsupported by Microsoft", with no more "security patches"; what is their stance on Win7? Security reasons my... behind!1 point

Is there a reason that you do NOT have Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed for your WIN XP OS ??? Added Later: @dencorso (message below) did explain it for me. To each, their own.1 point
