  2. UPDATE: Did some headphone jack fiddling and removed Windows 8 dual-boot, can now mostly hear ThinkPad computer sounds, Windows startup sounds, logoff and shutdown sounds. Still gotta fix my error sounds even though I set it to "Windows Default" and uninstalled iTunes.

  4. I am searching for an HDA Audio Driver for Windows NT 4.0. The original name is snapaudio-winnt-1.1.2.exe, but all web archive links are DEAD! I can't access the file! Can someone help me search? I am going to use this driver on my virtual box system! EDIT: NVM, I found this http://web.archive.org/web/20070828212718/http://www.scitechsoft.com:80/ftp/snap/winnt/ Just a question since I posted: am I required to install service packs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 before I install 6? I'm trying to install an image viewer, but I keep getting messages of missing DLL's...
  5. I believe I just found some new stable drivers and am also currently testing some others to make sure they work properly. So, hopefully if all goes well there will be new stable drivers uploaded by me.
  6. At a local supermarket: I had also stopped at an office with a beige P!!!/4 tower complete with two CD-ROM and two floppy drives. It wasn't on though or else I would have grabbed two XPs in one day!
  7. 3 handshake failures on Win 7. I'm guessing the tool uses Microsoft's schannel.dll. If so, ProxHTTPSProxyMII would probably reduce the number of handshake failures on XP.
  8. I have just read the entire topic and hope to summarize it: Download HDA Driver for Windows 3.1 here http://turkeys4me.byethost4.com/programs/ Or AC'97??? Then use one of deomsh's files and place in the C:\WINDOWS directory? Please let me know! I want to try this on VirtualBox! I am also trying to document these drivers for NT 4.0 and Windows 3.1/95/98/98SE/ME systems. I've just discovered the NT 4.0-compatible one (developed by SciTech) and want to try this one as well. My goal is to properly preserve and make these things less obsolete and more user-friendly I'm aware this is a 9x-topic, but has anyone tried the NT 4.0 SciTech HDA drivers on later OSes like Windows 2000 or XP? It's absolutely entertaining to find older drivers that work on much newer operating systems. My D600, R60, Acer Nitro 5, etc are all dying to test and revive all these systems and show Microsoft we don't need 10
  9. 31 Handshake Failures 1 Detection (Host: www.tinyurl.com; Root CA: UTN - DATACorp SGC)
  10. Fourteen handshake failures here, as well, but does that matter much? I would think that "Detections: 0" would be the important thing.
  11. I did this test: https://www.trustprobe.com/fs1/download.php?appname=qmc.zip The developer writes that the tool: My result is 14 Handshake failure. Can I get 0 Handshake failure?
  12. UPDATED! I have done some reworks and bugfixes on both versions. I've increased the initial paint delay for webpages, in order to make them more responsive while they load, as well as disabling service workers. Please test the patch, and as always, it is provided AS IS. Thanks!

    StartIsBack++ 2.8

    Your app is great!! However... i'm just curious... where do you find these nice white icons (see attached picture)?
  14. Tasting is about studying. Then the Automatic Updates service should be set to Disabled for the startup type. I keep my fingers crossed for you.
  15. Even when "Automatic Updates" is turned OFF in the Control Panel, which has been my selected setting since at least 2007, there is an eponymous sevice which is set to "Automatic" by default, which I've always kept untouched. I'm disabling it right now. It might solve the issue in an easily reversible way, IMO, being an alternative to removing the POSReady key. Let's see what happens... Cross your fingers!
  16. Thanks @heinoganda, understood. I guess I can remove the POSReady key, as there is probably no point in it being there any more anyway, but what i will look into is perhaps just suppressing those messages in the logs so they're not recorded any more. I did that on my Windows 10 installation to stop the annoying error messages that were being written to the log on every boot, which have plagued Windows 10 for ages, and Microsoft says to ignore! I'm not sure if you can do it in Windows XP, but I will look into it. Cheers, Dave.
  17. @Dave-H As I wrote in a previous comment, as long as the POSReady key is present in the registry and therefore updates for MSE via the Windows Update Agent are possible, the situation will not change (MSE reprogramming and the function of the update over the Windows Update Agent remove?). Also an update directly after the start of Windows XP will bring you nothing, since MS meanwhile makes newer difference updates for the definition of MSE first over MU (Windows Update Agent) available and with a delay only with the Downloadlink (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=121721&clcid=0x409&arch=x86&eng=%EngineVersion%&avdelta=%AVSignatureVersion%&asdelta=%ASSignatureVersion%&prod=%ProductID%) is available. Since the engine can no longer be updated, the Windows Update Agent (if the POSReady key is present in the registry) will always find a more up-to-date engine! Unfortunately, I can not offer you a better solution.
  18. Windows 1903 upgrade disabled me Start is back 2.8.5 (incompatible software) it was needed a fresh reinstall
