  1. Past hour
  2. Fourteen handshake failures here, as well, but does that matter much? I would think that "Detections: 0" would be the important thing.
  3. Today
  4. I did this test: https://www.trustprobe.com/fs1/download.php?appname=qmc.zip The developer writes that the tool: My result is 14 Handshake failure. Can I get 0 Handshake failure?
  5. UPDATED! I have done some reworks and bugfixes on both versions. I've increased the initial paint delay for webpages, in order to make them more responsive while they load, as well as disabling service workers. Please test the patch, and as always, it is provided AS IS. Thanks!

    StartIsBack++ 2.8

    Your app is great!! However... i'm just curious... where do you find these nice white icons (see attached picture)?
  7. Tasting is about studying. Then the Automatic Updates service should be set to Disabled for the startup type. I keep my fingers crossed for you.
  8. Even when "Automatic Updates" is turned OFF in the Control Panel, which has been my selected setting since at least 2007, there is an eponymous sevice which is set to "Automatic" by default, which I've always kept untouched. I'm disabling it right now. It might solve the issue in an easily reversible way, IMO, being an alternative to removing the POSReady key. Let's see what happens... Cross your fingers!
  9. Thanks @heinoganda, understood. I guess I can remove the POSReady key, as there is probably no point in it being there any more anyway, but what i will look into is perhaps just suppressing those messages in the logs so they're not recorded any more. I did that on my Windows 10 installation to stop the annoying error messages that were being written to the log on every boot, which have plagued Windows 10 for ages, and Microsoft says to ignore! I'm not sure if you can do it in Windows XP, but I will look into it. Cheers, Dave.
  10. @Dave-H As I wrote in a previous comment, as long as the POSReady key is present in the registry and therefore updates for MSE via the Windows Update Agent are possible, the situation will not change (MSE reprogramming and the function of the update over the Windows Update Agent remove?). Also an update directly after the start of Windows XP will bring you nothing, since MS meanwhile makes newer difference updates for the definition of MSE first over MU (Windows Update Agent) available and with a delay only with the Downloadlink (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=121721&clcid=0x409&arch=x86&eng=%EngineVersion%&avdelta=%AVSignatureVersion%&asdelta=%ASSignatureVersion%&prod=%ProductID%) is available. Since the engine can no longer be updated, the Windows Update Agent (if the POSReady key is present in the registry) will always find a more up-to-date engine! Unfortunately, I can not offer you a better solution.
  11. Windows 1903 upgrade disabled me Start is back 2.8.5 (incompatible software) it was needed a fresh reinstall

  19. Friendly reminder that wined3d is just slow because it sucks with buffer management, not because opengl has any particular unholy fault. It is the supposed equivalent of all microsoft's apis up to 11, after all? If any dxvk benefits of a way more "normal" labour (then vulkan surely helps delivering lower cpu usage, but it is not like that should make the difference between playable and slideshow) Of course you ain't getting any of it, if the last binaries you have available are so ancient they lack any glimpse of csmt, pba, esync, and staging. p.s. I was under the impression there was some kind of vulkan driver for nvidia cards?
  20. I use a Promise SATA300 TX2 Plus PCI SATA controller in my overclocked Tualatin RDD. Runs quite well, plus it supports AHCI and Native Command Queuing. Not bad for a Pentium 3! By the way, I have updated the UOC Patch right now. Please download the newest version! Thread link:

    Hello!

    Welcome to MSFN, Eric! I'd say I have close to 20 years too, give or take. Started out even more stupid than a box of rocks and then I started learning from my mistakes and then wanting to learn how to do even more, and here I am today! You'll find we have a great community with a lot of smart cookies!
  22. Friendly reminder that anybody can have its own ffmpeg with blackjack, hookers, and even XP support. The hard part, more than coding or whatever, is setting up the build enviroment if any. For which there are handy helper scripts thankfully https://github.com/jb-alvarado/media-autobuild_suite https://github.com/rdp/ffmpeg-windows-build-helpers
  23. I just tried running my netbook XP installation for the first time in several days, and left it for a while before running the MSE updater. When I looked just before running it, still loads of new error messages in the Windows logs, so MSE is obviously still trying to update itself, and failing. If I had run the updater as soon as I booted into XP would these errors not have happened? If so I will try setting up a scheduled task to run it automatically on boot.
  24. I set it to Windows Default 1,000,000 times. And yes, I've got iTunes installed on my computer. Either I might try changing the default audio player or uninstalling the program. UPDATE: Uninstalled iTunes, Set the sound scheme to Windows Default 1,000 times. Still can't hear the error tones (but can still hear the Windows Logon sound). And because of that stuck stupid headphone jack, I can't hear the Windows Logoff sound (even though it was set, shutdown or the Vista Orb Animation startup sound.
  25. WPS Office 2019 works on Vista, so status is - ongoing. FineReader 14 (latest for now) - works on Vista, if unofficial portable version used. Nero 2019 works on Vista, if unofficial repacked version used. OpenVPN v. 2.4.6-I602 is the last version of software, that works correctly on my Vista. Version 2.4.7 brings errors, and connection is not establishing. The last snapshot of Vivaldi browser, that runs on Vista is v. 1.1.443.3. PROMT 18 is the last version of software for Vista. Maybe, it's possible to run PROMT 19, but I could not do it yet. SuperTuxKart 1.0.0 - fresh version of this game is still possible to run on Vista
