Thanks, both of you. As I don't use Supermium myself, I'd forgotten that it isn't "unGoogled" and, therefore, Google Sync is available to back up one's passwords with a somewhat reasonable level of security.

@roytam1 Okay, 1) I managed going up to Firefox 35.0.1 to work on Windows 2000 without Extended Kernel unofficially by using just kernelxp, advapixp, shellxp, and userxp wrappers from the mp10en2k package by blackwingcat, and additional dlls from windows 2000 extended kernel, and changing the MinorOperatingSystemVersion and MinorSubsystemVersion from 0001 to 0000, and leaving the MajorOperatingSystemVersion and MajorSubsystemVersion as 0000 on firefox.exe and other executables in the firefox folder. 2) I managed getting Firefox 31.8.0 ESR to work on Windows 2000 without Extended Kernel unofficially by using just kernelxp, advapixp, and shellxp wrappers from the mp10en2k package by blackwingcat, and additional dlls from windows 2000 extended kernel, and changing the MinorOperatingSystemVersion and MinorSubsystemVersion from 0001 to 0000, and leaving the MajorOperatingSystemVersion and MajorSubsystemVersion as 0000 on firefox.exe and other executables in the firefox folder. Note: The original kernelxp wrapper for windows 2000 without extended kernel from the mp10en2k package by blackwingcat have the getnumahighestnodenumber function missing for firefox 36 which used microsoft visual c++ 2013 runtime. I even tried 36.0a1 (compiled with vc2010) on Windows 2000 without extended kernel unofficially by using just kernelxp, advapixp, shellxp, and userxp wrappers from the mp10en2k package by blackwingcat, and additional dlls from windows 2000 extended kernel, and changing the MinorOperatingSystemVersion and MinorSubsystemVersion from 0001 to 0000, and leaving the MajorOperatingSystemVersion and MajorSubsystemVersion as 0000 on firefox.exe and other executables in the firefox folder, but it does not start The unofficial guide "How to get Firefox 35.0.1 / 31.8.0 ESR to work on Windows 2000 without Extended Kernel!" is now available. This guide is made by me. https://sites.google.com/view/clara-incorporated/modernization/windows-2000xp-rtmxp-sp1/firefox-35-0-1-firefox-31-8-0-on-windows-2000-without-extended-kernel

...It wasn't working for him, but now it is : PS: The forum software doesn't send a second (e-mail) notification to thread-subscribed members after one has edited one's original post (for which an initial notification has already been sent) ... Browser profile corruption is always a possibility, so, as others have noted, regular profile back-up and back-up of important info on physical copies is always strongly recommended ... ... Probably NOT ...

Hi, I'd like to suggest an upgrade for links/custom toolbars. I've thought of 2 ideas: 1. Hide icons so the text is shown only: 2. Refresh file selection, as it looks very outdated in comparison to tasks highlight: \ I know that probably barely anyone uses those, but these can be really useful if used with custom context menus. Here's one of the examples I've been working on lately:

My Windows XP OS Addons and Update Pack (2023)
Zorba the Geek replied to Zorba the Geek's topic in Application Add-Ons
Attempting to remove automatic updates by deleting source files caused the framedyn, dll and srclient.dll not found error at the end of the Windows setup. I cannot see entries in entries_del_shortcuts.ini for removing automatic updates. Certain folders of removed Windows components like msagent under the WINDOWS folder seem impossible to remove. I removed it's entry from txtsetup.sif and for good measure removed it with a batch file, but it reappears. When I attempt to remove it from the commandline I receive this output: > rd /s msagent msagent, Are you sure (Y/N)? y msagent\intl - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by an other process. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. Unlocker shows that the folder is locked by winlogon.exe, as is the empty Outlook Express folder. I can use Unlocker to remove the lock by winlogon.exe and delete the folder, but it reappears after I reboot. I also tried adding an entry for the msagent folder in the PendingFileRenameOperations value to delete it after a reboot, but that does not work. I might try removing the entry for msagent in the DestinationDirs section of intl.inf in the addon, but I doubt that would make a difference. I see that the msagent section of your addon includes this line which indicates that nhelper, exe is used to permanently remove the msagent folder: If so why are you deleting this line from nlite.inf? NLITE.INF|HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce","nlite_post_11",0x00020000,"nhelper rd /q /s """"%SystemRoot%\msagent"""""<NEXT>||1- 85 replies

My Windows XP OS Addons and Update Pack (2023)
Zorba the Geek replied to Zorba the Geek's topic in Application Add-Ons
What you demonstrate here is the same as the instructions in the Defining Entries document, so what I must have done wrong is omit the leading space of the second line. Here is a typical entry in hivesys.inf HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\MUILanguages\RCV2\guitrn.dll","0",0x00030001,\ 52,04,28,0a,01,00,05,00,00,00,28,0a,01,00,05,00 and here is the correct entry in my entries.ini file; HIVESYS.INF|HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\MUILanguages\RCV2\guitrn.dll","0",0x00030001,\<NEXT> 52,04,28,0a,01,00,05,00,00,00,28,0a,01,00,05,00<NEXT>||1 As you can see there are five spaces before the beginning of the second line. The deletion now works.- 85 replies

Supermium's password manager is working fine for me, and always has done. It is backed up to the cloud by Google Sync, so it's synchronised with my other Supermium installations on other machines, (I know, I know, but it works for me, and I don't use it for any really sensitive passwords like online banking!) I back up my whole machine locally regularly as well, of course.

What is a reliable, performant remote desktop software today, which doesn't have any interations with Windows, and can run on a variety of older Windows versions? I would like to be able to access my computer remotely on a guest computer where I may not make any configuration changes. The server would run on Server 2008 R2 x64 that is somewhat weak, and the client would likely run on Windows 10 and 11. The client should be portable. The server should not do heavy-handed security or compression. The available bandwidth is 60-100 Mbit/s. I could open a (secret) port for Windows Remote Desktop which is fast, but I am afraid that it would refuse to run on new Windows for this or that reason, as is often the case. I wouldn't be able to confirm any logins on the server or tweak it.

I have gave up on my main machine for now and restored old backup.. and moved experimenting into Vmware virtual machine, here i connected this machine as MBR disk, its not UEFI / TPM machine, its single partition install, but its failing exactly the same way Only difference is that on such simple setup, automatic start up repair worked right away, i mean that Windows bootloader started, without fidling with bcd files.. and still not ntbtlog.. so its something really ugly, i have tried to run lots of live antivirus and antimalware stuff, it ran for ages, because i have like like 6 millions of files on my disk.. i got some malware / adware reports, but i found say false possitives, because other tools not reported them.. I disabled them anyway, no change. I also found out that i could enable / disable drivers through dism+ .. but without any clue is really hard to find out the root of this problem.. and it seems to be same for a lot of people which encountered it.. I wonder there is msconfig mode to enable MS services Only, im not sure if different from safe mode, but i there wonder some way how to set it on.. i found try it.. i can probably disable services / drivers one by one, its problematic..

The discussion of "whether one should" use Supermium's password manager is sort of irrelevant to @kwisomialbert's question anyway. He "does" want to use it but it's not working for him. So, is password manager broken in the latest version? (I don't have Supermium myself so I can't check.) As for losing your passwords if the HDD crashes, I know; make regular backups, yada yada. But again, the computer is supposed to do some of the work for you, and storage isn't that expensive. So why doesn't the password manager make multiple copies of your passwords, ideally on different drives if you have them? For that matter, why isn't mirroring/RAID more common in PCs today, so if an HDD fails, you just replace it and let the PC take care of rebuilding everything? Two or even three 2.5" drives don't cost that much or take up much space.

Hello, it's not that I like reviving dead threads, but I think that currently in this repository: https://github.com/VxKex/VxKex I've seen that they've been implementing new updates, something similar to what "dotexe1337" does. Several repositories with different changes are being merged into this repository (apparently).

Maybe you are right, but a situation has happened before:the hard drive was broken...

Can what be done there? You want to run something in specialize pass?

LibreOffice 25.8.0.4 works on Windows 8.1 You need to drop the „LaunchCondition“ Table with Orca. After that, the installer will install the suite. All apps seem to work without any issues. So, they could have kept 8.1 support but decided to end both 7 and 8 simultaneously. The suite doesn‘t work on Windows 7 (even with VxKex)

Yep tried that, it makes the SAB re-create, but that is not the same as reinstall it seems, some process stays. I was just stupid, had to leave a pending "update" so I can run it whenever I need to fix that

This was resolved in 3.9.13

One thing you can try as a workaround: open Task Manager, kill explorer.exe process (or run taskkill /im explorer.exe /f), then start Explorer again.

Yeah thats true, however I have tons of programs that run and needs to be launchend and configured again, including several virtual machines and servers operating, basically it is much more to reboot and not only time, but it is annoying too. Windows can survive around month and half - 2 between reboots, I usually reboot it week-2 after patch tuesday when it is clear if the current patches solve or create more issues. Basically the only thing that is now not working okay with a month of uptime is StartAllBack. An before you question how can I run virtual machnines and servers and tons of other stuff AND try to play games on this overloaded computer - I"m a human being and sometimes need a rest, so games that are not too demanding can fit in too

Using a server installation as a daily driver
superleiw replied to TheNewStatesman's topic in Windows Server 2008
Some older games might also require Windows Media Player (+Media Foundation) which can be re-enabled by installing the Desktop Experience Feature. On Server 2016 and higher, this is not required because installing the OS with Desktop Experience automatically installs the Media Foundation Feature as well. -

Not sure about Server 2008 (R2) but on Server 2012 and 2012 R2 some DirectX functionality got intentionally removed by Microsoft. Both of those OS are lacking the following files : XAudio2_8.dll , XInput1_4.dll , XInput9_1_0.dll This may affect games/emulators and also some applications. Thankfully it's possible to just copy these files from their Client counterpart into the system32 and syswow64 folder on Server ! -
