My Browser Builds (Part 5)

And for what it is worth, my older Serpent can only get to the green box that indicates that the slide "passed" but it does not advance to the next page. It eventually times out and requests the slide mouse again. Both results are TECHNICALLY THE SAME! ie, the SECURITY CHALLENGE CANNOT BE LOADED. -

I now get this with both of my ISP's. ie, both land on the slide mouse page, both get the green box that the slide mouse page PASSED, but then both end up being blocked with "We couldn't load the security challenge." -

Okay, well, I can report that the Restore Session page **IS** working in the most-recent version of Serpent v52. I terminated via Task Manager ten consecutive times and ALL TEN presented a populated windows/tabs table. In the past, two or three of those ten would *NOT* present the table, it would just open/restore my last session **WITHOUT** presenting the table - this is not a "functioning" feature. But I can not replicate this behavior with most-recent version, ALL TEN terminations function properly. - Today

Installer works just fine. That is error it is creating. In English that says "file PIDGIN.EXE is linked to missing export function KERNEL32.DLL:VirtualAllocEx". What really baffles me here is that call does not exist on Windows 9x to begin with only on Windows NT and when I run it on vanilla Windows 98 or ME without kernel ex or anything else it starts up just fine. If program would rely on that call it would not start to begin with on 98. Pidgin 2.6.6 is last officially supporting 9x platform when using standalone legacy GTK runtime (https://web.archive.org/web/20110106073509/http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Installing Pidgin#CanIrunPidginonWindows98ME). I just though it may have something to do with fact 95 identifies itself as 4.00.1111 whereas 98 is 4.10.2222. 4.00 is also kernel number on NT 4.0 which made me assume for reason unknown executable is thinking to be under Windows NT platform. While I can use PSI 0.10 under Windows 95 to connect my Jabber server I prefer Pidgin since it support text mode file transfers if transfer proxy fails. here is files I used http://nokiamies.net/files/sw/pidgin-2.6.6-no-gtk.exe http://nokiamies.net/files/sw/gtk-runtime-2.6.10-rev-a.exe

Hello NotHereToPlayGames, You asked: "Just how did you get to the Restore Session page?" Answer: Via Task Manager (End Process) or the "Sledgehammer Method" ,i.e. cut off the power supply. -
Only if the check looks into the registry can the version be spoofed. This is rarely the case. Is this the installer or the app itself? And what is the full, exact text of the message (including title)?

That may be promising! MAYBE it's fixed. Just how did you get to the Restore Session page? What really has *never* worked for me in "newer" versions is for me to have only two windows open, each with only one tab, and Serpent.exe is TERMINATED via Windows Task Manager / System Informer / et alia. -

Hello NotHereToPlayGames, You said: "Newer versions of Serpent *do not work* on my end because Session Restore is a **MUST**. I have noted these Session Restore issues in the past and intermittent as they are in newer, I have *ZERO* problems with Session Restore in my older version." ------------------------------------------------------------ I have *ZERO* problems with Session Restore in my latest version of Serpent St52. -

My Browser Builds (Part 5)
NotHereToPlayGames replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
I'm afraid that I will have to decline from that experiment. My apologies. Newer versions of Serpent *do not work* on my end because Session Restore is a **MUST**. I have noted these Session Restore issues in the past and intermittent as they are in newer, I have *ZERO* problems with Session Restore in my older version. I have had way WAY too many updates over the years only to REVERT to the version that WORKS for me. Sorry, my version has to remain where it is. When I can no longer text and email from it, then I'll have to cross that bridge when I come to it. Until then, "long live my OLD Serpent". This version WORKS for me and NEWER versions do NOT. Not to sound too blunt, but I have lost interest in newer versions of Serpent all on account of SESSION RESTORE table of tabs/windows NOT POPULATING in newer versions. Again, intermittent as it is, the version that I use always ALWAYS **ALWAYS** populates the Session Restore table, so this is going to be my last version of Serpent until I see changelogs reflect Session Restore fixes. -

Hello NotHereToPlayGames, You said: "I did just discover that the paypal slide mouse screen in my older version of Serpent is DEPENDENT UPON the ISP that I use." Is this interdependence also true for the latest version (2025-08-21) of St52 ? -
Then you don't have StartAllBack active – this is the standard Windows 11 taskbar. Go to StartAllBack's Settings, and make sure it's not disabled for your account.

Nokiamies started following Pidgin 2.6.6 on Windows 95 OSR 2.1?
-
I have been trying to get Pidgin 2.6.6, last version of Pidgin for Windows 98/ME to run on Windows 95 OSR 2.0. However during startup I get error about missing call kernel32.dll:virtualallocex As far as I am aware that call is exclusive for the Windows NT family of operating systems and does not exist on Windows 9x. On 98 it starts without error and I got some sort of theory why: Windows 95 is identified as 4.00 by version number which is same as NT. Windows 98 is 4.10. I think for some reason program thinks it is on NT4 which 2.6.6 can also be run on and fails on that that call. Is there way to spoof version for single program under Windows 95 to show it as 4.10 instead of 4.00 or other way work around that issue? Any help will be useful

For Palemoon/Newmoon maybe try the UnMHT extension (legacy extension): https://services.addons.thunderbird.net/en-gb/firefox/addon/unmht/versions/ Direct download for UnMHT: https://addons.thunderbird.net/firefox/downloads/file/662569/type:attachment/unmht-8.3.2-an+fx+sm+tb.xpi?src=version-history For Chromium/Chrome/Brave Browser/etc just save the webpage as MHTML. This option may have to be enabled inside the chrome://flags settings page. If you don't have the option to save a webpage as MHTML, then search for 'MHTML' in chrome://flags.

This specific error means that the key entered does not match the installed SKU of the OS. For example, trying to use a System Builder key on a Retail installation can show this type of error. Good to know it works for you know.

It is the end of New Moon for me. My bank (SEB Bank) designed an new "smart" payment form, which shows a blank area with some dialog shifted off screen to the right. This form lags even in Supermium. I would be lost without Supermium. https://i.imgur.com/kTBJjWj.png -
this is the problem, I don't have this menu, just 'task manager' and 'taskbar settings' p.s. windows 11 pro for workstation ver. 24h2, SAB updated on the last version but I have the same problem with windows server 2025, 2022 and 2019
