@ED_Sln Don't you think it would be time for a separate, special build for Windows XP only? 🤔 The Background Task (Task Scheduler V2) and the Remote Settings Crypto Loops are poison for Windows XP especially on old, weak hardware and totally unnecessary since they do nothing but consuming resources.

@AstroSkipper I'm not a developer, I'm just the author of this thread. 🙂 People have already written to the developer about separate builds, but he doesn't have much free time, and maintaining two different builds would be more complicated because if he were to create a separate one for Windows XP, it would require a lot of specific configurations. We’ll have to wait until the latest versions are released, it’s quite possible that memory and CPU usage will increase so much that it will be impossible to use the browser on Windows XP, at which point the developer will have to optimize it or even create a separate version for Windows XP.

@BW134 You can change the download path in the settings. However, if you download using the "Save As" menu, you'll need to specify the folder where you want to save the file in the save dialog, then the program will remember where to save such files.

I set the environment variable MOZ_REMOTE_SETTINGS_DEVTOOLS=1 and cut off both, the Background Task (Task Scheduler V2) and the Remote Settings Crypto Feature by creating and installing a UC.JS script in the Nightly 114.0.3 and creating some prefs for stopping these features. Then I rebased all important DLL files inside the programme folder which led to a reduction of more than 50% in RAM usage. Furthermore I changed some ipc.processCount prefs and others to my needs. Finally, I installed my UC.JS script for periodically triggering the Minimize Memory feature. Works like a charm. 👍

My browser console is now completely quiet, only one error message NS_ERROR_FAILURE which confirms the successfully fitted muzzle. 🤬 And opening several tabs on my P4 is no problem anymore. But of course, you mustn’t overdo it. 😜

Can't believe it - but we actually agree. We had a PERFECTLY WORKING version of ESR 140.x for those of us on Windows 7 and Windows 8. Me being told to calm down, because the new rework will allow the XP and Vista gang to join in is simply NOT a priority of mine. I know what you're stating is for different, and more "streamlining" reasons, but I'll go with it.

Version 115 ESR works perfectly, nice job but don't forget that SSE2 is required. Tested on Windows Xp 64, my XP 32 is on Athlon without SSE2. For this last one, MyPal is still the best choice because it has a SSE compilation version.

Regarding the recent issues with Cloud-flare, it looks like these Firefox builds are passing all Cloud-flare challenges perfectly. I haven't been hit with a "verify you are human" page, let alone a loop, yet while using Firefox 150. (It's possible that even v.115 for XP users will work, but I'm not going to try that myself.)

v.150 has some annoying issues with highlighting the drop-down menu item the mouse pointer is on in Win 7, but I can live with that.

Still, this is the second browser change being forced on me this year, first from Serpent to R3dFox, then to these Firefox builds, and I'm getting a little tired of having to waste my time manually migrating to yet another browser. 🙄 (The only automatic upgrade path is from Edge, which I haven't used in years.)
