Windows Update v4 is currently experiencing problems due to getmanifest.asp, so it will come in a moment. But v3 is working and v5 too! WinFX and maile3241 did a very great job.

Great News about Windows Update v5:cheerleader:

Windows Update v5 works since June, but at a limited level, only express search could be done and if it was custom only critical updates could be installed.

But that's over! Now any WUv5 user can install updates of all kinds, be they critical, software, hardware, and even hidden! Also you can see the description of them!

You can download WUv 5 with its corrections to date here: Download Now!

Good, now the v5 is solved. I still wondered if v4 is already fixed

No, there are still problems, like the update descriptions in the Update History, or the torubleshooter. But we're about to finish that, thanks to @WinFX.

V4 has sadly nothing new, and the getmanifest.asp problem is a very big problem...

Btw, @maile3241 and @ByQuadCore are working on how to use Windows Update v5 / v6 with the client.asmx from WSUS.

I am personally working on all WU versions.

FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED HELP RESTORING THESE OLD VERSIONS OF WINDOWS UPDATE:

I will release Windows Update v5 in a zip as soon as it is fully restored. If you want more information, send me a Private Message (if it cannot fit in this topic).

How can you run Windows Update v3, v4?
Are there detailed instructions? Where can I read it?
I want to pull an update link for Win 9x.
I want to archive them - updates and links. While they are available and working.
But I'm not a programmer. I am a sales manager. And I need detailed step-by-step instructions.
Excuse my English, Google translator.
