Well I did check that there were no absolute paths in the script which would need changing.
It's something I'm well used to with a multi-boot system where the paths are not necessarily standard!
I couldn't see anything obvious though.

The updates probably won't be completely removed from the servers though. There are still 95 98 and ME updates on the server such as:

The script uses current path so no need to change anything.  I have no idea why you got that message if you have already installed all XP updates including Posready.

Thanks, I didn't think that was the problem.
It's all a bit of a mystery though.
The last version of wsusscn2.cab which works for me is the one from November 2019.
The July 2020 version, even though it's supposed to still be SHA-1 signed, doesn't work, and nor do any of the other recent ones I've tried.
It is strange that the error I'm getting says "no signature", not "invalid signature".
I don't know if that is significant at all.

AFAIK my system is completely up to date, with no updates outstanding.

A cursory Google/Microsoft search didn't yield any... :dubbio:
Of course, I did find

What do you get if you run "sigcheck -i wsusscn2.cab"?

OK, I tried that.

Sigcheck doesn't actually work in Windows XP, so I had to do it in Windows 10. :ph34r:
I guess the results are still valid though.

I can't see any obvious differences, they all apparently have certificates which have either expired or are about to expire.

Neither could I.

I guess the answer may be hidden in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/wua_sdk/using-the-windows-update-agent-api , where I got the offline scanning example code. But I am not a real programmer, so trying to understand the whole structure and utilizing it is beyond my current ability and will. Hope others could look into this.

this post from 2015 suggests XP support was dropped starting with v2.30, but another post from 2016 has v2.40

To make matters worse, the official source only links to the most recent version of sigcheck, v2.80, which, as stated, doesn't run under XP :angry: ...

It is quite hard now to find previous versions of sigcheck, I hope it's OK to mention here that a third party site has archived old versions of the SysInternals Suite bundle, the one entry named "Sysinternals Suite October 26, 2015" does include sigcheck-v2.30-x86 :) ; can a kind soul on XP solve the riddle for me? And, perhaps more importantly, does it support SHA-2 signatures?
