Although this could go in the "browsers" thread, I didn't want this to get buried in the many pages of that thread.

After some detective work, I've located Firefox 52.9.1 ESR buried on Mozilla's servers and confirmed it works on Windows XP. The 52.9.0 version is dated 25-JUN-2018 while the 52.9.1 version is dated 06-SEP-2018.

The links are https://download-origin.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/tinderbox-builds/mozilla-esr52-win32/1536215521/firefox-52.9.1.en-US.win32.installer.exe and alternate link is https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/tinderbox-builds/mozilla-esr52-win32/1536215521/firefox-52.9.1.en-US.win32.installer.exe. I've also added it to my FTP: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/firefox-52.9.1.en-US.win32.installer.exe

I'm not sure why Mozilla didn't make this release public, but ENJOY! Note that I don't use XP 64 bit but I would expect the same results.

How on earth did you ever find out a Firefox ESR v. 52.9.1 even existed, to go hunting after it (if I may ask)?  :dubbio:

The existence of Thunderbird 52.9.1 meant to me that there must be a Firefox 52.9.1 somewhere.

Thunderbird 52.9.1: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/52.9.1/win32/en-US/Thunderbird Setup 52.9.1.exe

Also, Sea-Monkey 2.49.5 is now out, and works on XP, even though it's not posted on the main page: https://www.wg9s.com/comm-esr/seamonkey-2.49.5.en-US.win32.zip

With a little exploration I found an x64 version here - https://download-origin.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/tinderbox-builds/mozilla-esr52-win64/1536215521/firefox-52.9.1.en-US.win64.installer.exe and here - https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/tinderbox-builds/mozilla-esr52-win64/1536215521/firefox-52.9.1.en-US.win64.installer.exe.

Please note that I have NOT tested this at all, merely found it and confirmed that it would download.

Cheers and Regards

Correct. There are multiple versions available for Windows, Linux, Mac, etc. However, most people running XP are likely to be running the 32-bit flavor so I felt the Win32 would be most relevant.

I personally have always preferred 32-bit XP for the widest software compatibility including NTVDM and 16-bit programs and applications.

I take it this is available in US English only?
I can't find a British English version, or any other languages for that matter!

Firefox 52.9.1 is a no-go on XP x64.

The x64 build I wouldn't imagine working, however 52.9.1 ESR x86 worked fine for me on XP x64, albeit it crashed once after upgrading from 52.9.0, which has happened before to me with other versions.
But now, it works fine.

This is interesting. It's probably because certain API calls that exist in Win7 and later don't exist in XP 64. The 64 installer is likely designed around NT 6.x code.

I was able to do an in-place upgrade from 52.9.0 on XP 32 without any crash.

Same here.  It's been a long time since 64-bit Firefox worked on XP x64, though I haven't been able to determine, much less download, that version.

Anyway, 52.9.1 was a good find, Stephen.

Running smoothly.

Besides, a few Electron-based websites don't have the annoying graphical bug that made them refresh the UI every once in a while, so good news.

so wg9s' patches get in esr52 branch, and tinderbox auto builds firefox/thunderbird binaries

Slightly OT; @roytam1, could you possibly create an XP x64-compatible build of pure vanilla Firefox 52.9.0esr x64, and subsequently a pure vanilla build of 52.9.1esr x64 matching the Mozilla x86 version?

I don't want to add to your workload, so if this is a major headache please disregard my request!
These would be one-time builds simply to provide an x64 compatible version of the existing last-compatible codebase(s).
