Especially in Thorium, it works great.

I've not yet tried Thorium on my 14yr "young" Atom N450 Acer Aspire One.

BTW, the difference in speed with or without using a moblie user agent is much more noticeable in Thorium on my computer.

Wait... what is Thorium? A chemical element?

Mobile user agent or not, everything is SLOW AS MOLE a**#S on the ol' Acer.

This! It's the same on this old Fujitsu.

The OP has an even older CPU than me. nonono.gif It's a Pentium 3 733 MHz SSE only.

Actually, I turned my pockets inside out and found another 67 MHz! :buehehe:

It runs at 800 MHz. I think I remembered 733 MHz from reading a data sheet. It may have been for a different configuration of the same model. Or I may have confused it with my 733 MHz Pentium III that I have in a desktop PC.

Windows NT 6.1; WOW64 implies that the browser's OS is Windows 7 64-bit. If you want to tell the website you are on Windows XP, you have to change that to Windows NT 5.1.

Will they immediately block you if they see you have Windows XP? Or they only use that for statistics?

Here is a Firefox based mobile user agent originally used by Firefox on Android:

Mozilla/5.0 (Android 9; Mobile; rw:125.0) Gecko/125.0 Firefox/125.0

I think you have a typo here. It should be rv and not "rw". Small detail, but I doubt it will accept it or read it correctly if it says "rw" and "rv" is expected. I'm just guessing. I have not tried it.

You can lower the Firefox version of this string to a value you like, of course.

But does it have to be a valid Firefox version?

And do I have to change it for both browsers if I have more than one in the string, like changing "Firefox/52.0 PaleMoon/27.10.0" to "Firefox/48.0 PaleMoon/7.7.7"? I'm using 7.7.7 arbitrarily here (God mode) because I don't know what to set it to. I will have to look it up if it has to be a valid number.

This one is not compatible with my New Moon 27.10.0? It says on the website that it's compatible with "Pale Moon 29.0 to 31.*". This is for version 1.7.2, last updated December 25, 2022. So it's not a good recommendation, I guess? But I do understand and appreciate the suggestion. I will have to find an alternative.

I have used one such extension for Firefox before. I still have it on my main PC. It's called User-Agent Switcher (by Linder). I don't use it unless I have to. I don't like to mess with user agent strings to be honest. They don't make sense to me. As I have pointed out here already. I mean if and when done so manually. So I agree that using an extension is a sensible thing to do.

One fun way I used the extension in Firefox, back in 2015 and 2016, was to trick Microsoft into presenting me with the option to download the generic Windows 10 ISO files, by making them think I'm using a Linux or Mac computer, and therefore cannot use their Media Creation Tool. But it's such a perversion from Microsoft... as a Windows user, they make me use their tool to create what is essentially a custom ISO, and not the original and verifiable ISO file. But yeah, that's one very good use case for a user agent switcher.

Thanks!

Sadly, I think that's not compatible with this Pentium III processor. But it might be a perfect fit for someone with a more powerful processor. There are two ways to look at it. You either look for a new browser to support web browsing on Windows XP, or you look for a new web browser to support web browsing on your old processor/hardware. (It's both in my case.)

Correct. The browser Thorium is in different versions available but none of them is compatible with a CPU SSE only.

It works perfectly in New Moon 28 and Serpent 52. Thus, it's a very good recommendation. Try to lower the minversion to 27.10.0 in the install.rdf file inside the xpi archive! Maybe, it works then in New Moon 27.10.0, too. BTW, it was indeed a typo in the user agent string I already corrected.

May I remind everyone of Rule 7b.

Dear Dave, you're, as usual, right, and this is a very good example of what you've just told.

Words torn out-of-context is a total disrespect, not to mention the mockery part. On behalf of all members, I want to thank you for being a marvellous moderator!

you can't say anything here

You sound arrogant and conceited, was that your intent?  Is the forum getting renamed in your honor?

This is a quote taken out of context. If you want to quote me, please do it correctly in context! Here is my original statement:

If you don't have or use an old, weak computer, for example, with a Pentium 3 or 4 CPU, you can't say anything here.

What sounds arrogant and conceited about this factual statement? :dubbio: The answer is: nothing. But your subsequent comment is simply inappropriate and superfluous. albert.gif
