I wondered what in the heck was going on. It seemed to be working just fine and then all of a sudden, Flash was blocked and I knew it wasn't an old version. Thanks for the update.

It's due to the 0-days that surfaced with The Hacking Team leak...

However, this ability the FF team has of blocking things suddenly from their side is surely annoying, to say the least!

flash player was updated to 18.0.0.232 on August 11 as noted in Adobe security bulletin APSB15-19.

it should still function on XP.

Also whats the difference between the active-x, plugin and ppapi?

thanksl

flash ActiveX download is for Internet Explorer, plugin is for Mozilla based browsers (Firefox/Seamonkey) and PPAPI is for browsers like Google Chrome and recent Opera browsers

Yes, Flash Player 18 is supported under XP. An XP Thinkpad is among the machines I use on a daily basis.

In fact, Flash Player 19 Beta is already available (http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer.html) and the system requirements have not changed: http://labsdownload.adobe.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/shared/air19_flashplayer19_releasenotes.pdf

OK ... that's good to know. I had a feeling you posted the information for a reason. I would rather have that version ... With the FileHippo version I always have the Google Chrome toolbar and one other item with a check box ... I have to uncheck two boxes but the Google Chrome thing still seems to be installed. One of my registry cleaners will still find it and I remove it for good.

RegCleaner 4.3 by Jouni Vuorio will pull it up even though it was not supposed to be installed, since I removed the checkmark.

I'd like to know the exact link to that Adobe Shockwave download page so I can use that version from now on. I've been downloading the File Hippo version for years and always fooling around with those Google toolbar checkmarks.

The direct link for Adobe Shockwave is here: https://get.adobe.com/shockwave/

This will direct you to

https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/shockwave/default/english/win95nt/latest/Shockwave_Installer_Slim.exe

The funny thing you'll notice is that it is still hosted in the "win95nt" directory which is surely ancient by now!

The link I gave, namely: sw_lic_full_installer.exe always points to the current (= latest) non-adware English version...

It's actually a permanent link.
