POSReady 2009 updates ported to Windows XP SP3 ENU

heinoganda - a few details -

1) First, you and I are having this very nice conversation in this thread while the world holds its breath for more XP POS updates.  If you want me to move this to a new topic, please let me know.  But, who knows, maybe this issue is helpful to others still clinging to their XP life preservers.  (Mine is getting waterlogged.)

2) Your link for the C++ Redistributable 2008 installer was for version 9.0.30729.6161, which certainly seems correct.  However, the version of C++ Redistributable 2008 which pCloud always installs (no option) is 9.0.21022.  Would that be a possible issue?  Actually, I would guess that is NOT the problem.  But just FYI.

3) Other forums discussing other explorer problems suggest that either DEP or too many shell extensions might be the problem, and I have downloaded two nirsoft utilities to check later.  What do you think?

4) Got your PM and will be sending you stuff later.

5)  I have written that explorer.exe crashes.  Correct, but the actual symptom is this:  Immediately after I install pcloud (and before I start pcloud.exe), if I open any explorer window showing a folder and its files, as soon as I right-click anywhere in that window, explorer freezes, I get error messages and there are errors later in Event viewer.

Thanks.

I think last update was 9.0.30729.7523 : 3

Shortly and succinctly, Patch day blown off at the last minute! I could have waited a long time.

:)

As of today I still see no updates for either Win 7 or POSReady 09. So just for the heck of it, I went to Windows Update with IE 8 and checked for new updates - and now I'm stuck waiting on the svchost.exe using 99% CPU bug! And it probably won't find anything anyway. Exasperating.

Thanks. That's what usually works if you've gone a few months without updates.

Unfortunately it didn't work for me this time. After downloading, installing, rebooting, and re-enabling Windows Update, it went back to svchost.exe using 99% again :( And "review your update history" didn't even show 4012204 as being installed

So I guess I'll just have to wait it out....

It won't be shown in the Windows Update list if you installed it manually from the standalone installation file.
It should be listed in Add/Remove Programs though.
Glad to hear we've actually got some updates this month, I guess we'll never know exactly why all of last months were pulled!
:)

@Mathwiz

I've added my previous post to the listed updates links to the WSUS catalog, so you can install them manually. Meanwhile, I have a test in my VM where this problem with svchost.exe is comprehensibly. With me all updates were installed up to the current and with the current update for IE8 was solved the problem. I can not do more at the moment. :(

Updates !!!!  Hey, Happy New Year everyone !!!  :w00t:  Is anyone else enjoying the late blizzard in NYC?  It's very pretty and mildly annoying.

So, I mean, are they GOOD updates?  Do you LIKE them?  Are any of them MISBEHAVING?

My yellow shield shows ELEVEN updates, including THREE for my Office 2003-with-2007-compatibility-pack.  That sound right?

XP forever (until my old PC just disintegrates) !!!

I got the 11 updates.  I had one issued with KB4011981.  It kept wanting to reinstall after each reboot.  I had to clear my SoftwareDistribution directory as I had to in the past with this same recurring install issue.  Other than that everything seems fine.

Let's add the following to dencorso's list (glnz should pay special attention):

KB2883042 - Excel 2003 critical update (quite old but still little known and underrated):

[redacted]

KB3128043 - Office 2003 critical update (mso.dll)

KB3178653 - Office 2003 critical update (usp10.dll)

KB3178693 - Office 2003 critical update (gdiplus.dll)

Bersaglio - When it comes to MSFN, my attention is always "special", although my wife uses a different word.

Is there a way to check whether I already have that ancient KB2883042 (other than by reviewing all 400 screens of updates)?  And, by the way, what does it do that I haven't had the last 14 years?
