Aero Glass for Win8.1 RTM RC3

Featured Replies

my system is shutting down very slow

There's an ability to ask Windows to display more detailed status messages... This might help you narrow down what's stalling.

Excerpted from my book (note that the step-by-step assumes you have a Start Menu replacement in place):

There is no such option in 8.1 gpedit

--edit--

Found the problem, it's skype, if I close it before shutting down everything is normal, ****, skype is bul***** from version 5.0..

Sorry, it's been renamed in Windows 8.1's policy editor. It's now "Display highly detailed status messages".

@gontie, maybe because you're on battery at the time

I already enabled this using tuneup utilities but it won't help me because the screen becomes black very fast when I shut down the system.

Thanks for your proposition, i don't know how but at the second reboot, it did work.

When i unplug the power cable aero still work, so i suppose that was not the issue.

Last question, how can i make that the buttons in the right above corners are white ?

This is what i have http://www78.zippyshare.com/v/29124201/file.html

This is what i looking for : http://glass8.berlios.de/win81beta2.png

Also last question (sorry for all these questions) can we enable the blur for the taskbar ?

AERO GLASS for Win8.1 Release Candidate 3
  • Fixes for occasional blur glitches
  • Fixed bug that settings was not sometimes loaded
  • Modified settings to allow adjusting composited (mode 3) glow effect size: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM:TextGlowMode (DWORD): HIWORD specifies glow size (0 = theme default), LOWORD specifies glow mode
  • Some other small fixes

The win81_x64_rc3 is also working fine for me.

Has someone an idea on the questions below ?

Thanks.

*d'oh* It works now.

I was running on battery. When I connect my USB hub with keyboard/mouse, I can only run on battery.

Thanks for the update, I am a bit confused by this TextGlowMode (DWORD): HIWORD and LOWORD value though, how do we set that in the registry?

If you want a value of 12, set it to 0x000c0003 (the left four numbers are for the size, the right four numbers are for the mode).

I noticed that it doesn't work yet with the default theme. It works with the Release Preview theme, but not for ribbon windows. I think that might be due to ribbon windows taking their glow size from a different value in the theme. It would also be useful to be able to overwrite the glow intensity, because decreasing or increasing the size also has an impact on the intensity. Being able to also change the intensity would allow for compensating this.
