Does anyone have a copy of the final supported Notepad++ release for 98SE (5.9 ANSI)?  The Notepad++ website was rewritten a while back and they don't link to pre-6.x releases anymore.

Does anyone recall a media player that had a minimum requirement of Windows 2000 but ran on Windows 98/ME anyway? While on Windows 98, the media player's video slider would not work, but video was amazing compared to other options.

This is MSFN, we're all interested! The vogons forums is also a great place to post your wonderful discovery!

What version of SMP Player? I've tried running 0.98, but it's slidebar won't work at all.

I don't see this mentioned anywhere, but CPU-Z 1.78 was released for Windows 98 in November 2016.

Considering the current version is 1.81, this isn't that old at all.

Windows 98 support had been dropped with CPU-Z 1.57, but was revived with CPU-Z 1.76 in April 2016:

CPU-Z Vintage version claims to work in win9x.

Is there something like Truecrypt for Win98? I mean some crypted file cointainer which is working as any other driver letter? Bonus would be is it could be still readed in Win 7 or even Win10, for multi boot. I found CryptTainer, but i have not any experience with it.

I happily use Scramdisk, which is one of the precursors to Truecrypt. You might also try E4M (Encryption for the Masses) which was another precursor. Scramdisk also has a Linux spin off for multi-boot systems, but I guess you will find none of these work on modern WinNT systems (such as Win7 or later)

This page appears to have a copy of Scramdisk for download, though I cannot vouch for it: http://aplusfreeware.com/categories/LFWV/misc.html

For Scramdisk for Linux see here: http://sd4l.sourceforge.net/

YMMV

Doing a little research it seems Notepad++ 5.9.1 (ANSI) is the last version to support Windows 9x/ME as per user PeterJones on the Notepad++ community forum.

I did some searching. According to https://notepad-plus-plus.org/news/notepad-5.9.1-release-is-available.html, “As a result Notepad++ future releases won’t be supported under Windows 98/ME environments, since VS2010 cannot be used to target Win9X.” I believe that means that 5.9.1 should work Win98.

If you’d rather use a more modern Notepad++, I might recommend installing the most recent NPP on your host machine, and use the NppFTP plugin (also available thru plugin manager) to “remotely” edit the files on your virtual box.

you can find version 5.9.1 here

be sure that you download the bin.zip or bin.7z version... the .exe installer only has the Unicode version which doesn't work on Win9x/ME.
