  1. I use this at T-12 to edit quicklaunch: if not exist "%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\cmd.lnk" shortcut.exe /F:"%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\cmd.lnk" /A:C /T:"%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe" shortcut.exe
  2. There are plenty of ports of dd, but you would probably have to run them from winPE / bartPE rather than the running OS. Or you could just run DBAN for a few seconds?
  3. No, the cd / iso does not need ejecting. I'd try using a vanilla xp cd first, and get that working, before trying custom builds or custom partitioning. It's easier to troubleshoot one thing at a time...
  4. I'd just create the partition(s) then let xp format and make one active - have you actually installed xp on the vm? To boot a cd afterwards you'll need to set the boot order in the bios of the vm, or press the right key on startup.
  5. It's asking you to connect to the admin port, default is 14147 http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/FAQ

    sysprep

Sysprep wont make an image, for imaging see IcemanND's topic: www.msfn.org/board/Disk-Imaging-Software-t100299.html
  7. It's not about being free, it's about freedom
  8. Why not use task scheduler (part of windows) and pskill from sysinternals?
  9. You probably don't want to publish your product key? Some people run this sort of thing at T-12: DEL "%systemroot%\*.bmp" DEL "%systemroot%\Web\Wallpaper\*.jpg" Don't know about the resolution, try adding a VRefresh = 70 Might not work if the driver isn't installed?
  10. You could also look at BartPE: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
  11. It used to be called virtualbox: http://www.msfn.org/board/VM-VirtualBox-t90774.html
  12. You could try windows memory diagnostics from http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp If your ram is not just a single stick, try removing all but one of them and testing them individually.
  13. try makecab, also you can use expand rather than winrar.
  14. I've not tried this, but it might do what you want: http://ping.windowsdream.com/winner.html
  15. Reset as in reconnects, or loses all settings? If it's the former then that could be your ISP, or the line quality. Or it could be power cuts, assuming you're not using a UPS?
  16. http://www.ubcd4win.com/ You'll have to build the iso yourself though.
  17. It's a long thread... Just replace the 4 oembios files with ones from a preactivated first install or recovery install, and use a key decoder to get a royalty oem key to put in winnt.sif. For drivers, try driverpacks.net
  18. If you have a vanilla xp oem cd without the crapware, you can slipstream sp3 and have it preactivate: http://www.msfn.org/board/Multi-Manufactur...ion-t71016.html
  19. ;Speed up Network Browsing by removing Network Scheduled Tasks [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\ NameSpace\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}] See: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/17/ http://news.softpedia.com/news/Speed-Up-Ne...ing-48069.shtml Or try posting the actual make and model of your NAS, maybe someone else knows. For setting users and password there is probably a web interface, try typing it's IP address into your browser.
  20. http://www.msfn.org/board/Multi-Manufactur...ion-t71016.html
  21. There is a reg tweak to speed up network browsing by ignoring scheduled tasks, maybe that would help. You've not listed your OS or the details of your NAS though.
  22. I think the only way this is going to be legit is if you transfer the compaq xp licence to the virtual machine, and run some other OS as the host, assuming the compaq came with an oem xp licence. VMware has a setting which can allow preactivation, but I don't know about virtualbox.
  23. I use grub4dos as a boot manager - there is a sample menu.lst entry for puppy here: http://diddy.boot-land.net/grub4dos/files/multiboot.htm Although you probably don't need the hide and unhide sections. Should be able to adapt it to grub too, if that is your current boot manager.
