I never heard of that! Well its too late, I've already decided to build a Win95 PC for my voodoo card. Sounds neat tho.

I just saw something about that today. Someone on Technet created a topic about how to stop it from showing ads.

Firefox drops "ask me every time" and DOESN'T TELL ANYONE
Tripredacus replied to glnz's topic in Technology News
A movement has already been started by those who are opting out of the new-age of software and IoT thingies. Soon we will all return to writing each other letters again if this keeps up. BUT that is not a setting I have used before I don't think. There was some new thing on my Firefox at work when I opened it this week. Something about asking for your name and phone number! but also something that shows a symbol up in the "secure color" part of the URL that pertained to enabling tracking for every site even if you aren't on there. Perhaps that is related to the removal of the setting. I would probably prefer not to update Firefox, but gone are the days when it would prompt you for update. Now it does it on its own apparently. -
Stock Vista WinPE2.0 x64 typically requires some amount less than 1GB RAM on the client not sure if it is more/less than 768MB. My standard practice is: WinPE2.0 x64 1GB RAM or higher WinPE2.0 x86 512MB RAM or higher Using newer PEs should only be as-needed or when clients have more than 1GB RAM.

This is not correct. The only time we can read a user's PM is if someone reports it.

From what I've seen, mislabelled RAM had discrepencies in timing more so than memory size. Can you post the part number on the RAM stick too?

A .psd file that is getting error message
Tripredacus replied to SilasSpencer's topic in Site & Forum Issues
In all cases since this became "a thing" the spam responders have different IPs than the OP. So this isn't a case of 2 people in an office making posts to each other. The IP doesn't get blacklisted but it could. That is something the spam service handles. It also handles how it decides to permit users to register on the forum. I'm sure its a complicated process. Anyways, i would wholly expect that spammers are using TOR to do their dirty work. And they don't seem to actually be bots that do this. They go about and fill out profile information somewhat randomly, with exception to that "flap" of Vista Business types we had awhile back. Anyways, I'm going to move this topic into Site & Forum issues. -
It is a hard question to search for. My only guess would be to install N and see if it lets you change product key to the KN one.

It seems to me that this computer may have had a virus infection in the past. It may explain why some of the expected behaviours of Windows are not working.

In my experience, what is written on RAM labels can be wrong. Better to check the SPD info using CPU-Z or a similar tool. This topic title reminded me of something I noticed during the upgrade history of my home computer. There was a noticeable slowdown in going from an 850 board with 768MB RDRAM to a 865 board with 3GB DDR. I didn't stick with the 865 for too long and ended up using the 850 in another computer.

The problem is this. We can only surmise that the OP is part of a team, especially since they do not return to reply in the thread. BUT there is no way to be sure. We do know that people can be desperate for an answer and make a topic on many forums asking the same question, then not return to all of them when replies occur. This happens a lot and these are real people. Spam bots will reply to those topics too. Just because we can find the same question on google doesn't mean there isn't some site it was posted on and that was where the OP continued to post on. Not everything shows up on google. I have talked to other forum admins and some do flag the OP as well as the respondant. However because there is a chance that the OP is a real person, I don't want to run the risk of reporting a legit user, their email address and their home or work IP address to a spam service. That is what we do, not just banning users. I have had to personally deal with people who have had their information show up on a blacklist somewhere and it is not a fun time for them. -

List vol is fine, but doesn't do much by selecting disk 0. If you can re-run the diskpart command and do this instead: select disk 0list part That will show which partitions are on disk 0. The list vol command does not only show volumes on the selected disk and is showing extra things like card readers or optical drives.

True spam topic that serve no purpose will be deleted. No reason to mark them as such. -
Your cmd picture shows you trying to run diskpart commands from cmd. Those won't work. You would need to run diskpart first, it has its own prompt just like ftp does. For an example visual representation only of what diskpart commands look like, you can see some in the 2nd code box in this post: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/169284-windows-81-creates-2nd-recovery-partition/#entry1057840

Windows 10 KN is a custom edition of Windows that Microsoft created specifically for sale in South Korea. It appears to only be available in Korean. I do not know if it is possible to add a LIP to KN, I can't find it available for download.

how to disable realtek jack detection for speakers
Tripredacus replied to yugioh47's topic in Windows Tips 'n' Tweaks
Is this a case where the driver is installed but not the Realtek software? Last I used systems with Realtek audio, there was an option in their software cpl to do it. -

That certainly is a problem, but I'm of a mind to not think all new users asking a question is part of a spam team. In fact, there is no way to be certain, especially with the tandem groups. It is obvious that the askers and responders are different users and have different IPs. And that it is the ones who post the spam link answers that are widely being reported to anti-spam groups, not the ones asking the questions. The forum does automatically deny membership to spammers but it is not 100%. So this is why a lot of these threads recently get started and no one comes in to "answer" the question. Now that we've got our suspicions up, it is simple to quickly search google for parts of the original post to see if it has been crossposted, as this one was. The real spam groups tend to go after sites that have a google search result rating, or those who get scraped onto forum mirrors. This allows greater access to the links, especially on those mirrors which seem more automatic rather than actually moderated. Since we can find this other post, we can then "take it easy" on putting in effort in fixing the problem. In these "file corrupt" posts like this, the OP rarely seems to return to respond with exception to when the spam post is made. So my post is an example of this, asking for the file. Or you can ask for some other sort of thing like application version, OS or whatever else might not be mentioned in the first post. If we get some valid feedback from the OP, then great! We might have an actual person with a real problem we can help. There are 2 reasons for leaving a (potentially) incomplete tandem spam thread in place. 1. A real person may actually have this problem and find us to post about it. This has happened here in the past. 2. It can be an example of how to identify spam posts. -
Yes it is happening with TH/Threshold users as well. There are many posts on technet about complaints about this or that, including the file association one. The responses from the MS employees there are that x is by design and if it is a problem, to use the feedback tool. That's fine for your regular bugs but this file association thing is different. You've been able to do an in-place upgrade with past OS versions and not have this happen. I saw this was widely reported when built 1511 came down and that was installed with an in-place upgrade rather than a regular update install. So someone changed this behaviour out of the blue. Then again, they did remove repair installs after XP, just to bring them back with 8. And they changed that where it will uninstall all your programs including drivers. I haven't seen any complaints about that. At least it tells you what will be removed before doing so I guess. :\
