  1. Windows Update on Vista and Windows 7 has been increasingly unreliable in recent months. On new installations I've been seeing either it being stuck on "checking" for 10-18 hours, or it to say there are no updates or a what you posted. MS changed something on Windows Update sometime last year.
  2. Quoted portion of first post, [redacted] was the old link, which no longer was linking to the content as described.
  3. They both do. They are using a standard method, for example you can see it mentioned in bold where it says Connexion chiffree. The web server may use a specific standard, and the browser supports multiple standards. When the browser goes to the site, it will inform that it will be using x type of connection. The browser understands how to communicate in this way and then the two ends can talk. So it stands to reason that an outdated browser may not work properly, if at all, with a website using a modern form of encryption. This is likely why you hear about some websites outright blocking older browsers from connecting to them, or displaying broken content or a blank screen.
  4. 2. 32bit installations go into Program Files (x86) while 64bit go into Program Files. I don't know why they decided to go this route rather than making the new folder Program Files (x64). 3. Try it and find out.
  5. Is your issue exactly as described in the hotfix description? It says this is for folders with (for example) 5000+ files in it.
  6. Asus H170M-PLUS/CSM BIOS v0704 WARINING! All data on these selected disk drivers will be permanently deleted and will not be recoverable.
  7. Yes, the third option in the picture, restore system image. I have not used that before either, but I have read and I think it uses the system image you can make from within the OS. This page talks about it (and has a Silverlight video lol) http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-programs-system-settings-files#1TC=windows-7
  8. @DibyaIf your post is within 24 hours of your last post, and there are no new replies, edit your last post to add more information. I merged your last 4 posts.
  9. Hiren's Boot CD still contains MiniXP, so it is still warez.
  10. Oh I thought so. Yes Startup Repair does not always work, even though it tries. It only works in specific situations but it is quite easy to damage the OS in a way so that Startup Repair will always fail. It looks to be that Startup Repair creates a log file. Maybe this will be helpful for your exact situation. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744291(v=ws.10).aspx
  11. Yes true. For me, I expect my mobile device to show websites in mobile view. For the setting you speak of, the ability to "view as desktop" do you know exactly how that works? I imagine it is just changing the user agent.
  12. Ah ok. Put your RAM into slot 3 and 4 instead, leaving 1 and 2 empty, and see how that goes. The manual shows that as a supported dual-channel population.
  13. Recenv.exe is the default thing to open if you press F8 and then Repair your Computer. If you are seeing something else then you have something custom. If you can put up a picture of it, it might help for others to know exactly what you mean.
  14. So you have 1 4GB RAM stick in slot 2 then? The board was designed to have slot 1 populated. The manual states that memory needs to be in slot 1 in order for Cool'n'Quiet (AMD CPU Overheat protection) to function properly. Since you are operating on (presumed) faulty hardware, it may be difficult to say exactly why you have seen a change in the reported memory. It might have to do with an internal fault, a voltage difference, the memory failing, or an electrical difference within the system when using RAM in a different slot than designed especially if you have anything extra on the PCI bus. I tried to see if there was a Spec sheet for that board, but there doesn't seem to be one available. Without having additional hardware for testing, and another of the same board with the same BIOS version, you may never know for sure.
  15. Need make and model of motherboard to start. What did you change the slot?
  16. Is it on this screen? This is Recenv.exe in this picture. Personally I only ever use command prompt on it, but have seen Startup Repair work once or twice.
  17. I have finally got to use Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB and it looks to be the version of Windows 10 that everyone truly wants. Except that it is LTSB (10240) and has all those bugs of 10240. If they made a LTSB with 10586, it would be much better. Although, I don't have any idea how one would purchase that OS. It seems to me that 10240 is akin to Vista RTM while 10586 is Vista SP1.
  18. Portions of Photobucket are down right now. Some avatars and signature images may not show up.

  19. No. I use my devices appropriately. I require that a website displays properly on the appropriate platform. If I get a mobile view on desktop, I won't use the site anymore on my desktop. If I get a desktop view on my phone, I won't use that site on my phone.
  20. Can you be more specific as to what "Recovery" means for you? What I think of as Recovery in Windows 7 does not match the description of what you have posted.
  21. I would like to know how "Other" is determined, and what % is possible that a Windows OS shows up as Other.
  22. Welcome to the MSFN!
  23. It should be an opt-in situation. But also I can't find out how exactly it works. The only other thing it could be compared to is that interception thing that the Sheriff's department uses.
  24. Welcome to the MSFN!
  25. It looks like you are adding an account called Administrator. It already exists in the OS but is disabled. Try to create a user account with a different name instead.
