Have you already tested to see if it is related to the mouse? It has been so long since I've come across this issue. I definately remember that software could be a cause.

Auto-merge has been disabled again. There is a bug with it that causes some thing to not go where they are supposed to go.

I don't think drvload is smart in that way. Maybe there is another program that can detect devices and load drivers automatically. If you used drvload for this, you'd need to script that behaviour.

Well you can put an ISO on a usb stick, so not having a DVD drive isn't too big of a deal.

Right, if it were a critical issue, the thread would have been closed already. But it is good we can have discussions about these type of things in this section, as we all have different views about it. We can all have input on how to make it better.

There is no reason to close the IoT thread. It isn't so big now but fits the same mold as the Impressions thread.

We share the same sentiment here, while yours is about posts, ours is about the entire thread. Let's have this timeline of events over the years: - There was a first impressions thread for Windows 8 that ended up being a catch-all for news and reactions to Windows 8. This was ok at the time. - Separately, the Technology News section was a ghost-town and buried near the bottom of the sub-forum list. - The frontpage news staff had fallen off and it was generally left to myself and Xper to put up posts. This is a problem for both of us because Xper was/is very busy person and I don't read up on tech news. - People had noticed that news was not being updated as often on the frontpage. The frontpage gets a good amount of traffic and is an entry portal to the forum. Active front page = active forum in the eyes of visitors. - Xper adds the ability for people to add news posts to the frontpage. As of this writing, with exception of bots, only Tihiy has attempted to make a news post that way. - We started having database errors (if you remember SQL Driver error and forum downtime) and one of the problems was found the large "Impressions" thread was causing a lot of errors. - So we locked the thread. People got upset, we moved the thread to GD and closed/made new ones when they get too big. After that period when the thread was moved to GD, we still wanted a better way of handling it. So we see that many users are actually doing the same job that people would be doing of putting news on the frontpage. Instead of submitting it as a news items, they were posting in the thread. So you may remember being reached out to (among others) to post news, since it was what was being done in that thread. Even now, with this new forum version there is the ability to create a news item on the frontpage, and it will create a thread on the forum so that people can discuss it. Regarding content for news posts, News should be posted without opinion. You can let opinion be made in the discussion. So if you wanted to post a news article about how Windows 10 will disable the built-in Administrator account after an update, you would just be stating fact. There is no opinion in the matter. Surely it would be nice to post all sorts of news, not just bugs with an OS. And if these types of things are truly important to people, then they are fine news items.

You forget. We do not want the "news megathread" that is Deeper Impressions... and becoming IoT is a bad idea thread. We would prefer that each of these news items be their own threads, and then we can take those news posts and have them as news on the front page. However our multiple attempts to make it like that have been refused. So we make no concessions for those catch-all threads.

UART, XP/Vista/Win7 drivers exist for that HwID. Try the Windows 7 driver. This can be found in Intel Chipset driver. I found a driver v9.4.4.1005 from 2013.

Doubtful it is NoScript's fault. The forum should be keeping that announcement data in a cookie. Make sure it isn't being blocked or deleted when you exit the browser.

You should be editing your previous post should you need to post in a thread again, where you are the last poster, within 24 hours. We have a rule about this and bumping threads.

What is the purpose to add a video or sound driver to WinPE? If you don't want the driver actually in the image, you can run it manually with drvload. I use this for testing, or as a stop-gap until the actual boot image is updated.

Chipset drivers aren't needed. I've only added LAN and mass storage drivers to PE. I do not agree with the approach of just adding everything you can find into an image. I would only add what is required by the hardware you are servicing.

It depends on the contents of the WIM file you are using. If it contains registry hives (as a system image would) then they will overwrite. Imagex was primarily used to lay down an OS into a blank disk.

I don't think switching from Windows to Linux makes any sort of difference to Microsoft. They do not make any money off existing installations because those licenses have already been purchased. It only took a couple of years of no one buying (or building) apps for the mobile app store for Microsoft to ditch or rethink their phone strategy. I suspect Windows 10 will follow the same path eventually.

I just point it out. You could have zero problems, I just know I've had problems so I decided to share them. Even I would say I am not running a truly optimal or ideal situation, but budgets being what they are you have to make due with what you have. Also consider you are starting out. Most bad network designs are that way because they were pieced together in a disorderly way. You have the opportunity to get a head start on the future by doing it in a way that will be easier for scalability or when issues arise. ESXi is free and is Linux. So one plus is that you don't need to buy a license for the host. It is not full featured and some things you can't do. One that stuck out to me is you can't add external or additional storage to the virtual array. I am sure there are good comparisons out there, or maybe make a new topic asking about ESXi vs Hyper-V or other options.

It is either we are too old and crabby OR Invision does not have a full grasp of what their userbase wants. I would suspect that the amount of their customers that use the forum software that want all these new bells and whistles are in the minority.

I've never trusted software RAID but I know people that swear by Storage Spaces. So I can't really answer that for you. I also do not know if you can put WSUS on a DC, if it can you can just have 1 VM. I know for small business you are somewhat limited but I personally wouldn't put the VM on the file server. As I mentioned before, the OS on the DC is not going to take up a ton of space and with so few clients you don't need a ton of RAM. So the DC's VM can be on anything. The only reason I bring it up is depending on how your downtime plan is. Take this real world example. My dev network has 2 main systems: 1. File server as outlined in previous post. Domain member. 2. ESXi Hypervisor with 2 VMs: - VM1: AD, DHCP, DNS, WDS - VM2: WDS, IIS, Apache, MySQL Less than a month ago, a disk fails in the file server and it cannot be used* until the disk could be replaced and the array rebuilt. The spare on hand was defective and would not work and replacement disks had to be mailed overnight. But because the DC was kept on a separate system, everything still worked except for functions that used resources on the file server. If all had been on the one system, the entire network would have been unusable. So consider that potential situation and make sure you have it in your plan what to do when using a single point of failure.
