  1. Nopes, its not a necessity to see the product key and Identification pages. Those pages can be automated as well. I have a completely automated setup. Why don't you try downloading the MSBATCH.INF file that I attached in that post, and customize it with your key?
  2. Its so nice of you to post back with what the solution was! I'm sure it would be helpful to other who have the same problem.
  3. Hey mazin, you've got a nice discussion going - and I'm a late entrant into the JS-method install. But where's the PDF? I sure would like to have a read of it! (it looks like you hosted it at geocities, and they have stopped all downloads from your account, considering it as misuse)
  4. You can't slipstream directly into the source CD. Look here: guide
  5. I didn't find it either - its not a separate file in NAV2k3. But WTF I can always move up to NAV2k4 (and enjoy your method). Do see that you have an original un-modified source install of your NAV though, before using it.@mazin- All I can say now is, HUHHHHHH !!!!!! HURRAY !!!!!!!!! That thread existed and I didn't see it? Something's growing old in me I shall try your method, should work I suppose. Thanx a lot.
  6. LOL - personally, I agree with you - the Bliss wallpaper prompts vomiting as far as I'm concerned. But then, there are licensing limitations, and corporate policies, and other people's preferences to be considered as well.
  7. Please detail what you do - I would like to know how you do it. @Bodman- The most fail-proof method is to have these commands in your .cmd: get your nav installed from right path with /QB-! switch then sleep 5 (seconds) then pskill cfgwiz.exeThis is what I do.
  8. To bring back the CD-burning capability to WinXP, copy/paste the below registry code into notepad and save as "cdburn-allow.reg": Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; Enable Imapi CD-Burning Service [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ImapiService] "Start"=dword:00000004 Alternatively, to do the same manually, you can: 1. Run "services.msc" 2. Locate and click on "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service" in the list that you see. 3. In the drop-down box that says "Startup type", choose Automatic. 4. Click "OK", close all windows and reboot 5. (or to start using it immediately, click Apply, and start the service).
  9. Hey, as XtremeMaC says below, it looks like Alanoll has a task coming his way soon, LOL. And, the above attachment doesn't seem to display correctly, here it is: The frame says - Exit strategy?
  10. Its getting scary, is winamp as an actively developed app going to stop? From Justin Frankel's website: "It looks like Winamp's development is going to be really dead soon, since everybody who has directly worked on it is either gone or will be gone soon. Maybe it will get un******, I sure hope so." did anybody notice this in the Credits screen?
  11. wa v5.04 has been released! download Pro Lots of bug-fixes too. It is being discussed at ne0w!n, god knows why they are hated so much here. Q. Whats the difference between full and pro installers? (they have the same size) A. They are the same thing except the pro installer asks for your key at install. I don't know if the bug I've been facing right since the wa5 betas has been fixed with this version (play any media type in a limited-user account on WinXP, and winamp gets a window-theming similar to XP and exits/crashes). Does anybody else get this problem? Enjoy!
  12. Yes, and you can delete those files for win2k as well.
  13. Yep! I did the same, and can confirm that what you say is true.
  14. Let's have a fresh thought (and angle/point of view). Why not map the "Desktop" folder to a network location, instead of being on the local machine's C: drive? You could make the Desktop folder to be fetched from "\\ServerName\Profiles\%UserName%\Desktop". How to do the above? 1. Of course, the folder by the user's name and desktop should already exist on the server (Novell Netware?). 2. Then, on your existing windows install, this registry key should interest you: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders] "Desktop"="\\\\ServerName\\Profiles\\%UserName%\\Desktop" Note the double-slashes wherever there's a single slash. 3. Modify it (to actual variable path without double-slashes in registry, or to actual variable path with double-slashes if editing the .reg export). 4. Save it and apply it during T-13 (through cmdlines.txt). This method is far simpler, and easily "Administrable". I suppose any mistake in the process I describe above can be easily 'trouble-shoot'ed by you (or the others helping you here). All the best!
  15. See here for a solution: unattended background adding Its much simpler, and you don't lose bliss forever, either!
  16. Of course not!The Service Pack being the latest update is the last word on the subject (as of now). @Alanoll- I suppose you are referring to the place in the official guide where Aaron says you have to apply SP1, then come to this thread and apply the updates found here. Definitely you know better - you are just trying to ask before others do, so that the answer is available, aren't you? Answer: Yes, apply the updates mentioned in this thread, but only the ones released after SP1 (27th July, 2004) was. You should not apply the older individual-app patches (for word, excel, etc.) on top of SP1. Satisfied?
  17. @Justice- What you describe should work fine, just enable the optimizations (DMA, fast graphics, etc.), and install the latest drivers that exist for your hardware. Those games will run pretty reliably for sure - unless your network switch chokes! Also, since you won't be _playing_ games on it (only hosting/co-ordinating between clients), the less-than-desirable graphics support on svr2k3 won't matter. OK, now I know that this will only be a dedicated game server (you won't be playing games on it), but still, windows server 2003 doesn't look like the best of platforms to do it. Win2k AS should give you better performance, but then it's a fact that svr2k3 has lots of speed optimizations, and is more secure by default - so its your call! XP will certainly be the worst choice for a *DEDICATED* game server because: 1. It has its own eye-candy crap to slow down everything. 2. Its not as 'new' as svr2k3. 3. Its not as optimized for performance as win2k/2k3. 4. It won't have the Network Load Balancing that you want.
  18. It is a patched one? So does that mean that driver signing is broken ? (since the .INF file is modified, the WHQL signature'd CAT file is violated). Or can we just use this driver without needing to disable driver signing in winnt.sif ?
  19. I didn't know mail-boxes were measured in terms of weight these days!2mg = 2 milli-grams, LOL Maybe just a typo, but it was irresistible for me.......
  20. YAAAAAAAYYYYYYY !!!!!!! A mile-stone of a thousand posts on MSFN for me (actually it's a "WHOOOSHHH!!!" number - 2^10, i.e., a binary-denominative 1024). A big cheers to the entire group of people who have done their best to ensure that I (and everybody else who stumbles over to these forums) have a good time and enjoy my stay here (this doesn't mean I'm going away...). This set me thinking on the following lines: What sets MSFN forums apart from others (that I/We like it so much) ? I would like all you regular MSFN-ers to speak out on the above. Please keep in mind that we only want to hear nice things (grrrrr..... don't dare talk about what could possibly be negative here). ###################### ###################### Personally, my reply to the above question would be: 1. Simplicity and speed It's no-clutter layout is refreshing! And the sensible (without excessive over-use) usage of graphics is a blessing for fast browsing. 2. Ease of use The arrangement of the entire site's UI facilitates quick sifting of information, and finding what you want. The threads' display and organization is also simply superb! 3. The friendly nature of you all Finally, who can forget the contribution that the users of a site's board make towards its standing. Everybody here is willing to help at any point of time, and the entire community pitches in to see that any queries posted get resolved. We seem to have built up a vast repository of truly useful info - and without too many major incidences of flaming/ego-clashes,etc. at that - is an amazing achievement. Here you can find demonstrative proof that knowledge is the only commodity that swells when shared. I genuinely believe that all the technical info available/posted here, and all the member-projects (which materialise at the drop of a hat) hosted here; would have mattered little to draw people (to sign up) towards MSFN, if it were not for the factors mentioned above.
  21. You don't need to bother about that - put the folder containing the .INF files (like the screenshot above) for the driver on the CD - and list it in the OEMpnpDriversPath, that's all.BTW, as Alanoll says, it doesn't look like all of the required files are in that folder (the Intel 845/865 drivers are quite bloated with 70 or more files, and occupy 13 MB or so). So maybe you want to go to Intel's website (the driver download section) and get the latest drivers. If the above method (OEMpnpDriversPath) doesn't quite seem simple enough to do, you might prefer to read through the MSFN official uA CD guide, located here - do read it carefully, 'coz most questions that people ask is actually because they did not properly read it, and made mistakes - so no answers are given, except to read the guide properly. If you can't be online for long (using a dial-up) to read the guide, you can download the offline version (PDF) which is also available right there.
  22. copying the firefox folder directly to your new install, using an SFX is what most people do. Many threads also exist discussing how to use switches on firefox's original installer . So please use the "Search" facility and enjoy!
  23. A chipset is just that - a set of chips slapped together to form the basic I/O sub-system of a PC. There is no entry as such in device manager for the chipset, but the [iDE/ATAPI controller] used will normally indicate which chipset you use (unless you did not install the drivers from your MoBo's CD, or have a very old MoBo - in which cases you will just use generic drivers). Are you asking which driver files on the hard-disk are supporting your chipset, or do you mean to ask which drivers to download/use (for an unattended install) ?If you want to find out what chipset your MoBo is built on, you can download and use these tools: 1. WinCPUid 2. Everest Home Edition
  24. Yes, you can delete that patch - that's required only for dX9b, and you have 9C. And, Ahhhhh !!!!! sweet proof of my post above. So the the dx9c setup was already unattend-friendly (without needing to be hex-edited) with its /silent switch, eh?
  25. You can't do much by modifying the existing autorun in the original XP cd. At the most, you would be able to use Resource Hacker (google to get v3.4 of ResHack) to change the text-strings which call executables when you click on any of the options, and replace the bitmaps used. A better bet is to use AutoPlay Media Studio 5.0.03 as already suggested. The latest version (v5 as mentioned) is considerably easier to use and nothing you want to do can possibly take more than 4 hours with it (whereas modifying the original setup.exe will take forever to do the right way, and will stop at a dead-end which leads nowhere).
