How to install IIS unattended in XP SP2?
prathapml replied to quya's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Yes, look into sysoc.inf to see if any component names have changed. Next, get the latest deploy.cab to see the updated ref.chm for components. Then, are you sure the Components section is being processed at all? (do other choices there work?) Lastly, go here for a comprehensive listing - some of which isn't even in the official docu. Optional Components -
That's indeed the best. I've removed 16-bit support, use only NTFS, and eliminated 8dot3 file-name compatibility - so even if "Compatibility mode" is used, DOS apps won't run on my XP.

Is sp2b2 haveall critical updates found in ms site
prathapml replied to chankya's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
IE literally is windows! So including IE6 would become pretty much a massive OS upgrade of size 50 MB or so.... IE 5 or 5.5 is just incremental file updates, so that should be manageable easier. -
convert fat32 to ntfs, non interactively

That line in winnt.sif is only applicable to the system drive (or C:). -

How to set pagefile path in Unattended file?
prathapml replied to kaede's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Either that, or just keep a 3 MB pagefile on systemdrive, and set the main one as large as desired. -
I think it gets created around the time your cmdlines.txt is run - at T-12. There is only ONE pagefile/swapfile created - all users use the same one. When it creates the pagefile, setup will look for available free-space on the systemdrive, and create one of size [1.5 x RAM]. So if you have 512 MB of memory, your swap-file will be 768 MB.

VAD, stick with adobe reader. Foxit ain't really good for anything other than to prove that a theoretical alternative exists!

Stupid French Caracters!
prathapml replied to Incroyable HULK's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
That makes no difference! Its just command-lines which is being converted.... Believe me, RunOnceEX is not that good to use. So yes, I'll repeat what I said above about plain-ASCII coding in batch-files, and using XPlode if you want to move to something better. -
lolYes, I remember how I'd read loads of pages! In fact, I registered here only after 6 months had gone by of my discovery of this place. All of those months, reading and searching were policies.... That helped us in another way too - to know what the rules of the forum were (by seeing the experiences of others). But the new wave of people coming in just don't want to read at all! You'd see they found the forum yesterday, signed up today, and within 2 days multi-posted the same n00bish Q across 3 forums and got themselves a warning in the logs!

ha ha.... nice little party - let's wait for more problems! Here's what I have to add over here: - Your windows update issue, most probably was activeX related (that update disabled it). - The 512 MB limitation troubled more people than just you two here, and some sort of a work-around exists (I'll post it here when I get round to finding some time for myself). - win98 is not dead, and winME is not a bad OS; but most people don't want to believe that when I say so! @Aeron I doubt really, that "everyone here is in their own world, without caring for others". More likely, they don't know a possible solution, or the poor souls are busy with year-end pressures at work and college. Out here, if folks can't help, they just keep quiet and go about their own business. I've seen other forums, where you will get a response within 5 mins of posting - shot at you whether its useful or not. For example, if you ask something about IE, within minutes you have rabid firefox enthusiasts suffocating you, and telling you to move out of IE (whereas you might not want to). Similarly go flames for all the enduring duopolies in the industry (IE/firefox, AMD/Intel, nVidia/ATi, MS/linux, and so on.....). Flames is all you see there, and a real solution does not show up until days roll-by - before that time, the flames would have burnt your keen-ness to work your way into the solution. What would you rather want? A well-thought out and caring reply, or flames from all sides!

I did not enter this thread until now, but now I felt I had to... - If you're in a bad mood, go and hang out with friends, chill out! - don't give out your IM/email publicly or in your profile - There's many people on this board who have a reputation of knowing what they do and members who send them noob messages get no reply in return (thus punished). That's the least you can do, instead of getting irritated with their messages. No one's being forced to respond to all emails/PM received. - Keep the general atmosphere around here friendly and cordial - its good for everybody when you want to cool down after a tiring day. - If anyone DOES feel the impulse to slam a "**** IT and search" reply, either put it in nicer sounding words, or don't reply. - Same goes for someone who can't take the time to articulate their own problem. The lack of response will either drive them to search, or rectify the short-comings. The above points are where I concur with un4given1's words. But, - It is normally the ones who help most, that get flustered most! Simply because of our care to see that no one goes away empty-handed without an answer. So from that point of view, it is CARE and not hostility showing through. - I strongly dis-agree with: Its one hell of a search monster. I bet once you set your eyes on it and you decide that you don't want to bug people with questions, it takes hardly 10 mins to learn how to use it properly.- Remember, whether you are the helper, or being helped, politeness counts. You might yourself be a helper one day and seeking help the next. Would you like it when someone else slams the window on you? Okay, maybe you do like it, but the majority of us here most certainly don't. MSFN has always invited people with open arms, and that's the way it will stay. P.S.: The "you" word used above DOES NOT point towards any specific person. Its simply an open address to the community at large. Having said this, I just HAD to mention a word of thanks to all of our long-term members here who have made this forum the friendly place it is. Keep on at it guys (and _hopefully_ gals). See you through 2005! Wishing everyone a happy new year!

Stupid French Caracters!
prathapml replied to Incroyable HULK's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
First, I've shouted myself hoarse on this matter, saying non-ASCII characters are to be avoided if you want your commands to work properly. Second, del /f /q "%AllUsersProfile%\Start Menu\Programs\Adobe Reader 7.0.lnk"That works perfectly for me. I don't know what modifications are needed for french loca;ized version though. Lastly, why are you still stuck on batch files? I've seen XPlode to be very good - and it can do pretty much all that you'd need to do during a uA setup without needing to run a CMD script. Plus, XPlode is based on an XML file from which it takes its configuration, and this XML file can be unicode (which means your french characters will work perfectly). -

@ durex Me too. Join the party! -
Pardon me the smiles..... but it is 3 years since XP was released - and is not even something I think about anymore. (linux is a different matter, but) If its windows, its got to be XP - nothing else is good enough - in fact, XP itself is getting a bit long in the tooth now (which SP2 mitigated to a large extent).* moving topic

Huh? Version conflicts will result from that! Just install the Office Shortcut toolbar from O2k3 installer CD. Its in Office 2003 Shared Components group.

*touch wood Negatives: A lot of the "addicting" and "excesses" described above. Thankfully, my eyes are fine. But sitting long hours continuously does seem to contribute to non-usage of energy produced... And of course, parents go "TURN THE **** THING OFF!"
